      It really depends on what you like most. Being a fan of both I can honestly say I feel it was even. Em's rhyme schemes were crazy but the pictures Jay painted were extremely vivid and personal.

      PREMODOGMATIC If you're talking painting pictures in our heads... Eminem out did Jay Z as far as imagery man. "Go to war with the mormans, take a bath with the catholics .. in holy water, no wonder why they try to hold me under longer..."

    • @PREMODOGMATIC
      @PREMODOGMATIC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Vong Xiong Clever line but it's a blend of fiction and metaphor. Not reality and depth. Like I said it all depends on what you appreciate most. "I'm influenced by the ghettos you ruined." He's saying he's a product of his environment. "The same dude you gave nothing (himself) I made something doing what I do through and through. I give you the news with a twist. It's just my ghetto point of view." "I penetrate pop culture and bring em a lot closer to the block where they pop toasters." He's speaking to his influence in music. All of his lines on that song go that deep but you would have to understand the lingo. "Mami's knocked up cause she wasn't watched over. Knocked down by some clown, when child support knocks, no he's not around." Telling of a young single mother who ends up in this situation because of how she was raised and who she chose to sleep with. Jay Z stuff just has to be broken down for some.

      PREMODOGMATIC You don't need to explain to me line by line what it means bro. lol. But yeah, it's different perceptions of what you like.

    I have a great amount of respect for Just Blaze so it was interesting to hear him share his experiences with Eminem and Jay-Z in the studio. Although I personally enjoy listening to Eminem more, Jay has a great business mind and has managed to keep himself relevant for more than 15 years. That is no easy task for any music artist, especially hip-hop.

    • @fabo36
      @fabo36 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      word man, not to be that guy but I have to say it Jay has been relevant for about 20 years, cuz reasonable Doubt was 96' and he was pretty known before that so it's insane how consistent he's been, unbelievably hard to do that. Personally I think he has the greatest CATALOG of all time, and achievements wise he's the greatest but he's still taking a back seat to Biggie and Pac....and I personally think Nas comes before Jay when we're talking skills, but that's just me, I think when Jay dies ppl will say he's the GOAT

    • @fabo36
      @fabo36 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Word I can respect that, I said "people" will say he''s the GOAT not me haha I put Pac, Big, and Nas before him, but that's just me, Rakim is that guy too, I just didnt live through his era so it didnt have as big of an impact on me....I just dont know how you can brush off his albums like they werenb't good but Im not mad at cha, as long as you're not putting down BIg and PAc I wont trip out haha

      travellj Yes, Eminem has had explicit lyrics on his previous work; however, most (if not all) of Jay's albums have an "Explicit Content" label on them for a reason. Hov has talked about killing and dissing people for years, it's the norm in today's hip-hop culture.

    To be fair, Renegade was already Em's song. The original version was Em & Royce da 5'9" (and maybe one other dude). Jay heard the song and was like, "that shitz crazy!" He asked Em if he could do a version and Em went back to Royce and was like, "Don't be mad, BUT.... I GOTTA give this song to Jay-Z man". Once Em heard Jay's verse he told him to put it on his album (Jay'z album). But you can tell it's "Eminem's song". It SOUNDS like Em. And yes, Em did murk that song. They both did. But Em really did murk that song.

      Em's music means more to many more people because of the universal subjects every one can relate too, for example bullying which is actually a huge issue today in the forefront, Jay-Z would never tackle something like that, he'd never truly be insecure or vulnerable on a track. Jay keeps us all at a certain distance as he has his whole career, he tells you what he wants you too know. He's a hustler who spoke in code to hustlers a one point. That's a small world though. Em's career has been an open book on hard life, not just a short lived hustlers life turned business mogul. How many of us can really relate to that? Now hip hop is vibrato, that's what it was born to be and they both have that equally. But theirs a reason why Just Blaze wouldn't flat out give Jay the top spot. I love Jay so don't get me wrong, I just never (ever) let my being a fan get it the way of the truth.

Seeing how he’s developed his skills and slowly blown up after seizing each and every opportunity he’s been giving has been inspirational! Mans has quickly become a mainstay in the industry and for good reason. Dude is too nice! I know if I put in the work, I can reach a larger audience some day too, but for now, I’m happy being a supporter. My turn will come too. Salute to Just Blaze🔥

      BPP WARGAMING exactly that’s what people miss. It’s a lot easier to say Em is a better lyricist bc he’s so technical when it comes to rhyming and the shock value he says.
      But there’s more depth and meaning behind what Jay says and his lyrics are more impactful. His use of double and triple entendres, powerful metaphors. I guess it’s more of a personal preference but I prefer lyricist that say the most with the least amount of words.

    Jay Z absolutely knew Eminem out performed him on Renegade. Eminem at that time was scary to established MCs attempting to lay claim to being the best. Jay Z purposely stunted the sales of blueprint by not releasing Renegade as a single with a video.
    And Nas the following year or two for all his mocking of Jay for getting "murdered" brought in Eminem for God Son but had him produce a track rather than rap on one.
    I can't imagine Tupac or Biggie hearing Eminem on Renegade and then coming up with a verse not as memorable as Eminem's.

      Reasonable Doubt's only legacy is the business acumen Jay demonstrated by mixing mainstream polish with the underground sound that was done better by hundreds of rappers in the early 90's who never blew up because they didn't understand, at the time, the importance of appealing to females. Jay has done some good work, but he has mostly benefited from being in the right place at the right time, where hip hop was primed to become mainstream because of the hard work of more talented, more original rappers who came before. Reasonable Doubt is an extremely mediocre album for anyone who was listening to hip hop in the late 80's and early 90's. Now American Gangster...that's Jay realizing his potential.

      I'm my opinion... It's a classic song by two of the best MCs ever.. it's more about who you can relate to as far as subject matter...

    Who won on Renegade isn't a question you can answer convincingly. It's like the which flavors better Vanilla or Chocolate? It's all taste dependent. I'm a real huge fan of the little intricacies and nuances that go into crafting a verse like Ems but Jays verse speaks to me more because he's talking about being the product of a single parent household, hustling to overcome poverty etc. To me that's a more universally appealing message than the media tries to lynch me or use me as a scapegoat.

    • @nickpagano7134

      It's really not better than The Slim Shady LP. Jay-Z's raps are lazy. And RD is the only great album Jay has ever done. The Blueprint might sound nice but it's subject material is just that, material.

    • @Annthonygarcia
      @Annthonygarcia 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      WHAT? haha are you forreal tell me what song on that album can hold it's own with dead presidents II or can i live or d'evils there's so much content and the word play is crazy. his raps are lazy? have you heard 22 two's? have you heard the black album? you're talking without knowledge man smh he has great songs on other albums as well but try droppin' one album for 8 years straight

    • @nickpagano7134
      @nickpagano7134 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Garcia I say they are lazy because they are all freestyles to start with, which is commendable but not as well thought out as something written. For instance, RENEGADE. Brain Damage, If I Had and Role Model can all hold their own with the Jay songs you mentioned.

    • @Annthonygarcia
      @Annthonygarcia 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      they're freestyles? they aren't freestyles lol freestyles is being random with no content. those are good tracks off sslp but nah they can't well in my opinion stan

    • @itsonlyhalftime666X
      @itsonlyhalftime666X 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Pagano You're idiot. It's called "writing without a pen", he raps the lyrics in his head and memorizes it, then he records it. Biggie had the same exact method. Jay is doing the same thing a "writer" would do, just without writing it down, that's the only difference. You probably never even heard Reasonable doubt,.., because that album was by far jay's most structured, lyrical, organized album and it's blatantly obvious....so to hear a person say his body of work is all lazy freestyles, especially reasonable doubt is beyond laughable and the most uneducated thing a person can say about jay's body of work...another example , the album American Gangster completely kills your whole laughable argument about jay rapping lazy freestyles and randoms...because that "story-line" theme album was "mind written" in two weeks and I emphasize on "Story line"..

  • @luckymoneymarketing
    @luckymoneymarketing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If you listen to Renegade ... Jay and Em are spitting COMPLETELY different content. EM is talking about how nice his flow is and how good of an artist he is... Jay is painting a picture of his reality ... poetry from his actual real life experiences. If you never been through anything you wont feel his verse the same. Listen to it again... EM had a great flow and delivery... but really didnt say much.

    • @luckymoneymarketing
      @luckymoneymarketing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      "How you rate music that thugs with nothing relate to it?
      I help them see they way through it, not you" ...
      it's a whole different critique in order for Jay's verse ... (his verse speaks to the same critics in this post saying EM killed him on the track) ... smh

    Jay-Z is more of the laid back, versatile, kind of a rapper while Eminem is the personal, metaphoric kind of rapper but musically Jay is better he has songs which you can party to, personal songs, straight bars kind of songs, although Eminem does a better job with putting his emotion and personal experiences in a song a lot better than Jay does. In my opinion Jay-Z is the greatest of all time 17 Grammys, 13 number 1 albums Eminem does beat him in sales but I still think Jay is the greatest.

    • @michaelcooper7534
      @michaelcooper7534 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      umm noo Eminem is one of the greatest mc's of all time he's wayyyy better thaan jay z and no jay z is not versatile his raps are weak..most of the rappers out today are better then him...his voice is low quality.he couldnt hold a candle to kendrick lamar or big sean ..much less eminem..like go listen to piccaso baby..then go listen to big sean's my last..the rap is sooo much better then jay z's..jay z is terrible..but we've allowed god awful rappers to become famous

    • @moemansour3379
      @moemansour3379 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What the fuck? Are you telling me Big Sean is better than Jay-Z? Dude get your shit together
      "Hall Of Fame" flopped so hard that album was trash every aspect of it sucked the songs, the sales the delivery, the charisma his first album was way better
      How is Jay not versatile? He collaborates with so many different artists from Justin Timberlake to Rihanna to Kanye West and plays his part so well and brings himself out and he has various flows the way his voice connects with the beat is remarkable his flow is one of a kind he's so distinctive every time you hear his voice you know it's him that's what sets him aside from a lot of different artists
      There is no new rapper right now that compares to Jay-Z listen to all of his old material and new material and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Props to Eminem he is one of the greatest to ever do it by breaking barriers and changing the way rap looks today but I just prefer Jay I find his music more enjoyable I can't really enjoy myself with Eminem's music his music is what you listen to during a thinking process or if you need inspiration

    • @michaelcooper7534
      @michaelcooper7534 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      big seans flow is better yes....and the amount of albums a rapper sells doesnt prove that he's greater or lesser then some other rapper...it just means no one bought the album..not because it wasnt good..its because its not given much airplay also..kanye??? kanye west sucks..like listen to him live..so does rihanna....she cant sing AT all...again listen to her live...now Justin timberlake yeah he can sing a lil i'll give you that..but because jay-z rapped with shitty artist doesn't make him versatile...it just means he has connections with shitty artist..and please dont tell me you believe rihanna can sing???..pleassee ont..but really the quality of her voice sucks..and so does jay-z's...and dont tell me it doesnt matter..a rappers voice tone and flow matters just as much as the lyrical content...and also eminem has collaborated with just as many artist....probably more...(also not mad at you..just your opinion)

    • @moemansour3379
      @moemansour3379 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LMAO Kanye West is top 5 best hip hop performers of all time just look at the Yeezus tour and you'll understand. Eminem needs a hype man honestly if Eminem wasn't white he wouldn't be where he is today. In this day in age sales mean a lot trust me. Rihanna, JT, and Kanye West are all talented artists please explain why you think they're shitty?

    • @michaelcooper7534
      @michaelcooper7534 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      and whatttt????? Eminem is a lyrical genius and i say that becaus e not only is the proof in his music...he's constantly raked with tupac....as one of the greates mc's...do u hear people talking about jay z like that no..jay z is not on eminems level...hell he's not even on j cole's level..or kendrick lamars level....he never will be...just face it..its alll hype
