  • I took this lens for an open door helicopter ride ... it was a pretty bonkers idea.
    Review of Nikon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 VR S native Z mount lens partly in Hamburg shooting from a helicopter and then in London walking from Battersea Power Station to Westminster Bridge shooting photos, videos, slow motion and timelapse.

      @@LondonViewpoints Haha it was great! But one question, seen alot of videos where ppl do not recommend x1-x2 (one is our mutual camera conspiracies guy haha). Do you still get good results with x on the 500?
      Thanks in advance and for a great chanel!

      @@jumpingman6612 thanks again, I’ve obviously not done any scientific testing but with the F mount 2x Mark III (best one, tried previous Mark I and II and they were rather bad) as I shoot mainly skyline close to infinity , it’s hard to tell as earth heat and all sort of other conditions make it difficult to see if I’m actually getting more resolution but on closer subjects and wildlife etc I definitely saw benefits in resolution, but definitely the 2 stops of light drop make any dust specs on sensor more visible 🤣so pro’s and con’s , but this 1.4x was indeed superb and I’ve clearly noticed more detail , so really got high expectations against the Z 2x

    Have it and I love it! Great for casual photography, street and wildlife in the park or events. Totally agreed on the TC options. I think if you've used the VR from the camera, not the lens while on the chopper it wouldn't be that jerky-shaky. The VR of that lens with z6ii is really great for handheld for what I've used for the last 3 months. The "bad" thing now is that I'm 100% hooked on bird photography and 400mm is rather short for outside city parks and I'll be buying the 800mmPF as pretty sure that would be the cheapest Super Telephoto from 500mm above and it fits to the 99% of wildlife in my country being small birds, lel

    • @LondonViewpoints
      @LondonViewpoints  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot, yeah the 800mm Pf will be perfect for you from what you describe, and imagine throwing a new Z 2x on that 😱

      @@LondonViewpoints @London Viewpoints Ah, might be awesome but "sadly" I'm a fast aperture prime lover and still hard to accept the telephoto lenses being f4, f5.6, 6.3... what to tell about f11, f16 so I'm feeling anxious putting the TCs. Only tried it for a bit but didn't buy one 😄 By the way I really like the vibe in your videos and that you still shoot on z6ii (just as me) I've seen you before but not sure why I subscribed just now. Greetings from Sofia, Bulgaria 🍻

      @@dicekolev5360 thanks again, yeah ideally I’d like fast primes too, but it’s a balance between weights and versatility, yeah I love the Z6 II, in the perfect world I’d also get the Z9 and Nikon would release a Z6 III with a flip screen but that’s just dreams🤣

      @@LondonViewpoints Dreams are free for now, haha. As I'm heading into bird photography at this point I'd like only bird AF of the z9 in the z6ii body, haha

    An interesting video although I don't necessarily agree with all your conclusions - but then I do have the advantage of saying this 11 months after your video!! I have the Z 100-400 which I have owned since June 2022 and it has become my "go to lens" for so many applications. I just love the versatility and image quality this lens gives. I also had the F mount 500 PF but traded that for the Z 800 PF when that was released - along with the Z mount 2xtele-converter which I had used on the 100-400. I found the 2xTC softened the image too much for my taste but, more seriously had too big an impact on the aperture which seriously limited when I could use the combination. You mentioned hanging on for the Z 200-600 - 11 months ago, and we still don't have any information regarding its full specification of release date. The "road-map" indicates that this fabled lens is NOT an S series lens, the implication being that it won't be in the same league as the Z100-400 which is an "S" lens and is more likely to be in the same price range / build quality as the F mount 200-500. Don't get me wrong, the 200-500 is/was, in my opinion, a really great lens and excellent value for money. I used one for several years on my D500, D810 and D850 and, then, on my Z 7ii and Z9 right up till the Z 800 PF came along at which point I sold it off.

      Thanks for your feedback and opinion on what’s it like after owning that lens for 11 months, I still love my 500pf but I was never a fan of the 200-500 F, felt it wasn’t that great, heavy vignette at 5.6, do hope the 200-600 will eventually see light of day but no one knows when, and if it will be somewhat in between of these two lenses in quality and price range then I might be interested in it, but for now my 500pf will do. 800 pf must be amazing tho

    Why the skin tone is so red in this video's even the scene has red tone too, is it Nikon color or your editing, was it shot with N-Log, what editing you made?
    By the way, if I will get Nikon Zf instead of Sony A7RV and also I will get a Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder 25-600mm, I will mainly shoot photo with the Zf with specialised video sometime, I want to shoot everyday life, travel with mostly all in focus and also some artistic and abstract art that with a bit of compression and background blur plus maybe explore a bit super macro with micro possiblity later, would you recommend which combination between these lenses if I plan to have 2, 3 or 4 lenses setup?:
    Nikon 14-30mm f4, 70-180mm f2.8 with 2X TC, 100-400mm with 2X TC
    TTArtisan 100mm f2.8 2X Macro Tilt Shift, 500mm f6.3, 50mm f0.95
    Laowa 15mm Shift, 15mm 1X Macro, 35mm f0.95
    Voigtlander 15mm f4.5, 35mm f2, 40mm f1.2, 50mm f2, 50mm f1.0

    The lens that's driving me crazy Reason being the 400 F 4.5 came out and now I can't decide. The 100 is super clean and sharp as heck . And I think the versatility would be pretty useful in the field. Im a landscape shooter that's is expanding into wildlife. I have the 70 - 200 2.8 with 1.4 tele but that's the longest at the moment. What to do Ahhhh !!!! lol I cant wait for the 200 to 600 because Im going soon on a trip to photograph grizzly bears

    • @LondonViewpoints
      @LondonViewpoints  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the 70-200 already then jsut get the 400/4.5 👍🏻 or my personal fav the 500pf or the new 800/6.3pf

    • @SwanSycorax
      @SwanSycorax ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reading this 7 months on, what did you do??? I also have the 70-200 and had the 2 x TC (I am still waiting for a 1.4x which has been on order for a while!). I decided to go for the Z 100-400 and have absolutely no regrets. I know the Z 400 f/4.5 will give a slightly better bokeh, is ever so slightly sharper and weighs a teeny bit less, but, for me, the versatility of the zoom element wins out. I too shoot wild-life and also air-shows and the 100-400 has proven extremely versatile in both these genres as well as many others.

      @@SwanSycorax I ended up getting the 100-400 as well. The versatility is nice to have. I will wait to see what the 200-600 is like before I decide on the next lens. Glad you like yours
