    Barrels of surplus rifles was a pretty common thing until the mid 80's. I remember barrels of M-1's, 1903 Springfields, KAR 98k's, Carcano's and others for anywhere from $59-$129.00. I remember staying away from those barrels as a younger man. I didn't want to get all that cosmo on me. If only I'd known then, what I know today.

    • @rhondohslade
      @rhondohslade 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only wish I had known about those barrels, and where to find them at the time. I'd have been able to start collecting and shooting a whole lot sooner.

    These videos are one of the best references for my friends and I for buying any firearms. But, the best part is owning one of the firearms that come in and having them valued above what we paid.

    The parent company for Palmetto State Armory (JJE Capital Holdings) purchased the H&R name in the Remington bankruptcy. No announcements from them yet, but there have been rumors of new production Garands under the H&R name. They may have even inherited some of the old tooling to start off with

    I wonder who dislikes these videos because I love them just like forgotten weapons. Except it’s a wider range of firearms with I think an excellent overview of price, history, and use. For each. Especially with me having a small budget watching a few of these really shows a diverese range of guns that may fit my price range with their ups and downs.

    • @rhondohslade
      @rhondohslade 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So nice to see another fan of 'Gun Jesus', as some refer to Ian McCollum. I am starting to really enjoy this channel as it showcases different weapons than Forgotten Weapons and yields a slightly different but equally valid source of information.

    One positive thing about sporterized guns is finding one that can be restored. Found a No.4 Enfield at a gunshow. Stock was cut down and the stock bits were missing, but other than that intact. Some spare parts, sanding and staining later and I have a fully functional No.4. It wont ever be original, but it feels good to bring something like that back.

    • @derekp2674
      @derekp2674 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess for anyone who wants to experience actually shooting these old military rifles, the sporterized ones provide an nice inexpensive price point.

    • @rhondohslade
      @rhondohslade 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I picked up a sporterized WWII vintage Enfield at a gun show a while back, just because I wanted to be able to shoot a legendary piece. This particular unit was made in the Lithgow foundry in Australia, circa 1942 or so. The dates on receiver and stock vary by about a year but that seems reasonable. More importantly, all the cartouches, proof marks, etc are still legible, it feeds and fires well. One thing I did notice is that the 10 round magazine appears to be crafted of aluminum. Would that be authentic? If anyone can answer this question I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I spend a lot of time window shopping online for guns and I think your valuations are spot on. We pay a California tax for what can be sold here, anyways keep up the great work.

    I have an SU22 (and SU16) and it's a sweet rifle. I haven't run it real hard, but it's been reliable with any brand of ammo I use (dud primers not the gun's fault--they usually fire when I rotate the case). The mags were designed by Black Dog Mfg, so that's the go-to for extra mags.

    Fun fact, the kel-tec SU-16 & SU-22 are sold with 15.5 inch barrels... When viewed by ATF for approval, it was featured with a flash hider which gave it overall 16.5" barrel length when measured with dowel. They ditched the flash hider for a thread protector just as a little "F YOU" to ATF.
    Point being - if you have one, be prepared for a fine when they start going door to door with a tape measure looking for these super deadly SBR's masquerading as "pistols"
    Also, I live near Kel-Tec & while most think they run limited production, I can confirm they do as much as they possibly can & are constantly hiring people to meet demands but they just don't operate 24hr/ multiple shifts... Now, I can also confirm they are quick to fix warranty issues, even on one pistol I bought USED.. took in 2 for issues & received a call 4 hrs later. They had replaced entire upper/ slide assembly on a pf9 + PMR30 and gave me a new mag for the 9... I have no complaints for them outside of some function issues in a very early PMR30 & CMR30. The pf9 ran fine, but ejection was all over the place & trigger seemed like it had sand in the internals but all fixed now...

      I tend to trade something that I don't like as much for something that I like better - usually works well for the shop and myself. Shops will usually only pay about 60 percent of what they will flip it for to cover their overhead but when you are trading in something that they see as something that will move fast or faster than what you want you can get a better deal than just cashing out.
