i am very late but, my mom had the small white bmw and a lexus and now an acura for 6 years and now she is getting the x5 ! i love how you speak about every little feature! keep it up!
Generally a nice comprehensive review with your personal comments. In January I ordered a 2020 X5 and took delivery in June. I loaded up on options that your test car lacked and it makes a difference. I could have gone with the M package but in the final analysis, wasted power and reduced range so I went with your engine package. Living here in Germany my US specs X5 cruises easily at 131 mph in comfort mode at just under 3,000 rpm on the autobahns when traffic congestion allows it. While the M can go faster there are few places to let it rip at those speeds so the extra range with the basic engine is very nice. It is “incredibly” smooth!!!!! The acoustic glass keeps it perfect for conversing with your goddess at sustained speeds yet allows one to hear sirens. The rear turning wheels are very helpful in parking lots and curves at speed. The driver assist and heads up display are very nice additions but it takes some confidence to initially trust the driver assist as it gives a feeling of taking over the steering wheel. My Spousal Spending Unit (SSU) and I are terribly disappointed in the voice assist....it has not worked properly once for us. I deactivated the intuition assist as I love keeping the maps up as I drive and found that feature constantly interfering with the displays. I have the off-road package (for snow and sand primarily) and the traffic jams “hold” feature is sweet in stop and go traffic. The separate climate controls for 4 seats are AWESOME and when my SSU is too hot or cold and I am comfortable she can change her settings and I can remain comfortable.....an absolute MUST feature! The oversized brakes are sweet....not ceramic but definitely extra brakes! My ventilated seats are adequate but not noteworthy.....glad I have them for when I am in a suit in summer. The night ambient lighting is OK but nothing to brag about. The night vision pedestrian assist is “fun” but requires a “co-pilot” to use since it is not really useable while looking ahead at the road. I find myself driving in comfort mode 99% of the time...even at speeds on the autobahn. The black interior gets dirty fast. Insect carcasses impacting at 125 mph are hard to remove from glass and hood. Overall a very nice car built in South Carolina THAT IS A PLEASURE TO DRIVE. It is not perfect but I have no regrets paying cash for a $77k luxury SUV. The display even shows my X5 in its green color!!!!
We just bought the white 40i (with lighter interior). We also have the heads up display, think he might have missed that. It's an awesome car. We've had everything from a 1981 Mustang GT to a Mercedes 300 Cab, This is the most exciting, sexy and elegant thing I've ever driven. Cant wait til it teaches us all it can do. Bravo BMW. Well done!
I love that you called out the OPTIONAL features. So many videos are acting like THEIR vehicle is standard...gesture, crystal knobs, ambient lighting, Harman Kardon, allllll that is included as OPTIONAL. That base $$$ does NOT include all that. You are the only video transparent about it! Thank YOU!!!
Been waiting on this one a few months. glad to hear your feedback is consistent with what I'm thinking, about to pull the trigger on it for my next lease. Thanks for the great work.
@@chocolatedrp1 the rear the seat sensor on 2020 X5 just needed a full system reset also the exhaust failed lol and was replaced, my 2012 320i had zero problems.
I have a 2015 X5 with 71k and has been 0 issues. Really ❤️ the vehicle and you are correct has the best transmission in the business 👍🏼👍🏼. I’ll probably buy another .
you zonk the rear wiper, wanna know why it is on the bottom rather than the top? A wiper wipes in a circular pattern. The way they are positioned you only get a 180 or less sweep. You don't need to see up high in an SUV which is already high, rather you need to look straight out or downward. With the wiper at the bottom you get more usable cleared glass.
I’m not seeing the $65k in this vehicle yet and I’m halfway through the video. So far it looks like you’re paying for the Bayerische Motoren Werke AG name. Love the seats but they aren’t ventilated. Great job as usual Joe. 👍
I did not notice heated rear seat controls 10:50. I recall your review of a Honda Civic recently that had heated rear seats. BMW has the reputation for having to up sell a customer to get some features that are in cars that cost half as much.
Glad you showed the entry level. I was thinking about it. In my list🤔. For the price range. Its a challenge. Indeed an inline instead of a V is better👌
@@sparks5063 i've had no issues with mine. got it in december of 2020 "new" with 40 miles 😂😂 but over 3 years in it's been a workhorse. i don't even like driving but that changed quick with this x5
I pretty much watched EVERY SINGLE REVIEW you've done. I chuckle here and there but that german pastry line got me good lol! Keep it up! Want this to be my next car! I have the 330e now!
I’v had a Toyota 4Runner, Sequoia, Porsche Cayenne S, Lexus RX350 but resisted getting the BMW X5 for yrs. now i hav 1 n it’s fantastic! All the bells n whistles w/ metallic white n cognac interior. Harmon Kardon stereo is wonderful. 3.0 turbo engine is superb. S drive with NO AWD bcoz i liv in Southern California n my skiing days are over. No AWD means the steering feels great. Only complaint is stupid BMW gear shift...why making it different just to be different? People hav multiple cars (Older BMW, VW, Volvo, Maserati) n my X5 is in Reverse when i think its in Park. Don’t F with what works already! PRDL like everyone else IS FINE! Other than that, i lov this car.
Lease is ending on my ‘17 530i xdrive and like the build quality however looking to sit higher up. The Apply CarPlay is a bit quirky and does not always connect. Also find when accelerating from a stop there is some hesitation in acceleration and has had me question whether to go or wait looking to enter or cross traffic. Has anyone had issues with the newer BMWs Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity? What about acceleration between 4 and 6 cylinder? What about build and ride comparison to the Explorer, you mentioned Q7 what about Q8?
Hi my lease is also ending in nov 2020 for my 2018 bmw 540i and I agree the CarPlay is super frustrating. It drives me nuts to pay such a price every month and not have something as simple as bluetooth work.
Buyers beware - The quality control went down hill for new x5's and i am one of the unhappy customers related to quality of the product. Common issues reported so far 1) Whistle noise when the car speed up >100km/hr 2) OTA software update is not available in NA 3) Back seat leathers are wrinkled 4) KAFAS camera error 5) Door creak noise i keep going on and on
I agree with all points. I get a lot of wind noise from around the front driver's window and a lot of vibrations/rattles from the dash. My 2015 felt much better.
Honestly, the brands from Korea have way better styling now than the Germans. The door panel alone tells me that this is not worth $60k. And for the dash, I am like "Where's the rest of it?" For over $60k, there should be a ton more stuff there.
Coming from a 2017 X5 xdrive35i with M sport and M Performance exhaust i found the X5 xdrive40i i test drove significantly different. The B58 sounds much different and much quieter than my 2017. It certainly takes off faster but the lack of exhaust burbles and crackling also the synthetic engine sounds inside put me off. I have to say the seats were comfy on the test run! I'll stay with my 2017 X5 xDrive35i
Joe, appreciate your videos and how well you do the reviews. I just have one thing... you didn’t mention if you were comfortable in the back seat ? I was told it’s very small. Is that true ?
shame they gave you a stripped down version without X-Drive. The Merino leather is much softer than the Vernasca. I have a 2020 and it ALWAYS stays in Sport Plus mode. Thanks for the SUV review, love to see more.
I can't speak for no one else but myself, but it's the perfect SUV in my book! When you gonna examine the Porsche Cayenne? That's the only X-5 topper to be sure!!

Not crazy about its appearance, but do like the interior. I’ve had two BMWs previously and both have been headaches, especially the 535i, and I am not willing to rely upon the adage, third times a charm. I did check out the Audi Q8 and love their virtual cockpit deal. Gonna look in that direction but wouldn’t fault anyone for choosing the X5, however I’m done with BMW after two crappy experiences.
Odd, I’m on my first BMW, and my parents have owned 4 BMW’s. All have been free of major issues except I got a wheel bearing replacement on mine. I know a guy who had a 2011 that died at 130k mikes, and a guy that had a 2011 X5 35i that only got rid of it when insurance totaled it out when he sideswiped a pole in a parking garage. Had almost 140k miles
I bought one in March right before COVID-19 hit. I can say enough about how great this cat is. I just want to get in my car each day and drive .
The design has actually grown on me, I remember seeing it for the first time and thought it was hideous
