Thanks for that. I know how I’m completing the exhausts now. Cheers Nigel.

    Hi Nigel,
I’ve been modelling for 50+ years and I still enjoy learning new techniques, but I don’t think I’ve ever learned so much so quickly. Well done for sharing your experience so generously and congratulations on an excellent channel.
I’m mainly doing scale RC at the moment and working on a 1:5.3 Spitfire, mostly scratch built.

Nigel,, We keep coming back to watch because we learn something new with every video - today I learned the "stretched sprue" technique, which I'd never seen before. The resulting weld seams look absolutely great. Thanks for a great year of videos, and let me wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year.

Nigel Many thanks for another detailed post. It is great to follow such passion and enthusiasm. I look forward to further updates, however as I catch up after more food and drink than is good for me, I would like to wish you and you family a great festive period and successful New Year. I would also like to thank you for your considerable efforts to post hours of high value content over the past year. I know that it keeps me going and I think I speak for others as well. Best wishes.

It is what it is those cavities in the underside of those 2 part engine exhaust outlet ports nigel, and the having to scratchbuild & add the weld seams?,all apart of the enjoyment of building the model in my books?,sure enough you can go the extra mile & buy the resin upgrades, keeps the brain ticking if you have to do the filling & detail adding,or else as Harry Houdini oftens says,if you want it 'Perfect & trouble free' pretty much, sure just go & buy a Tamiya kit?,lol, cheers

Hi Nigel, Glue lines on seam lines! Now I feel better knowing that somebody with skills far greater than my own is questioning the same issue I’ve been asking myself for years.

Thank you for your informative video's, I am just getting back into modelling after a break of about 45 years, I have a italeri tornado gr4 that I won, but before I tackle that I'm going to do a couple of smaller airfix kits first, a spitfire starter kit, and then if that comes out OK want to have a go at the airfix Tempest

Hi Michael.. I find the glue in the starter set is awful. get yourself some Tamiya Extra thin.

Hi Nigel another great video. When stretching sprues Tamiya say only use sprues marked with a >PS< as others can give off poisonous gasses when heated. I'm not sure if Airfix plastic is the same but it might be worth considering.

Hello Nigel. Good to see your solution to the gaping holes in the undersides of the exhaust stubs. In this large scale they almost have to be filled. Glad you chose to re-instate the weld seams too. Again, they're quite obvious in this scale so whereas one might get away with leaving them off on small scale models it's almost a necessity to recreate them in 1/24th. They'll look superb under paint. Good job. 👍
Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Awesome work mate, although even if ya get ya stretched sprue to 1mm, that's gonna give you a 24mm weld seam...if I had produced a weld seam like that when I was still rebuilding wreck locomotives, my boss would've fired my ass🤣🤣🤣 I was a coded welder on the wreck line on railways here in SA. Still great looking work mate n I love watching ya builds😉👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Very informative video yet again Nigel
Don't know how you manage to keep it up
    But glad you do
    I have a question
Any chance you could do a spraying video
I've been modelling again for the past 6/7 years and airbrushing for the past 5
But I don't seen to get the finish you do on your models
Is there something I'm doing that I shouldn't
And that's why asking for a spraying tutorial
Merry Christmas and a very happy new year and lots of finished projects

Massive attention to detail, amazing! Quick question; do you ever use "sprue glue" to fill gaps/ holes etc? Merry Christmas 🎄

Hi Nigel. Just a thought on the different shades of "interior" green, would it not be true that a flash would have been used in places like the cockpit, thus bleaching the colour whereas the other shots would mostly rely on natural light thus appearing a bit darker? Like I said, just a thought as I'm not privy to your particular reference material!!

    • @NigelsModellingBench

Somewhere I have seen comments that wartime interior green was different. Early spits were apple green for example. Who knows??
