I am far from being a political analyst, but even in my student days I found Fukuyama's "The End of History?" mind-bogglingly short-sighted.
I think he's embarrased about it now, or in denial.

The frontline interviewers are so good at allowing their guests to speak without interupptions. Thats why It's the only show I watch on times radio.
You think the role of the journalist is to listen and take it all in? What happened to the A,B,C of journalism? "Accept nothing, Believe nothing, Challenge everything." We have lost that, mores the pity. As for Mr. Boyes, he's mixed to say the least.

He won't have the resources that Putin had at the start of this mess for starters, Germany has largely weaned itself off Russian oil, and the army is down to using T-54 tanks and North Korean artillery shells in Ukraine. Worse to the Russian people maybe, but unlikely to threaten the west.

Dreamer. You remind me of that Dave Allen joke when Charlie dies and gets to heaven. God let's him in and shows him around, introducing him to all the different groups. Protestants here, Methodists there, Buddhists over there, Hindus over there. Up the stairs they go and there's a big white curtain. True. There is an outlandish misconception that if Putin is removed Russia will suddenly become a liberal democracy, while in reality the most probable successor is Dmitry Medvedev, who is twice the imperialist Putin is. Navalny was a brave soul (especially protesting Putin's immigration policies, which are just as insane as those of Western democracies) but he never had a chance to win the presidency.
You'd think we should have learnt from Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya who didn't exactly became beacons of liberalism and democracy when the previous leadership was removed, but wishful thinking dies hard I guess.
Russia certainly has its own kind of degeneracy but that doesn't mean Russians want Western degeneracy on top of that. And Russia is an innately imperialist country. It has to be defeated on the battlefield.
Roger Boyes has interesting, good points, well thought-through answers. Refreshing guest. Yes I too noticed the hesitations, that shows he thinks before talking. In the comments I read good recommendations of his writings.

In spite of the hesitancy, Roger Boyes is worth listening to as he has a better grasp of what's going on in Russia and the Middle East than many another interviewee. Unfortunately we don't learn in this video even approximately HOW Putin will be overthrown by the Russian elite. But it's good to know that it's on the cards, anyway!

What I enjoy about these Times Radio interviews, is that they are consistently wrong.
Their predictions do not come true, and the opinions expressed, have no foundation.

I saw the exhibition at the British Museum only yesterday and it occurred to me time and time again how similar were the conditions of armies and wars in the Roman times and the present day, especially with regard to Russia.
how do you know what are the conditions of the Russian army??? From the western msm???? You don't get much proper information from it, only sheer propaganda. By the way our world's number 1 empire is USA and its slowly dying. That's the reason the Americans are so ferociously trying to cling to their hegemony and hate any independent countries, like Russia or China.
