What's up good sir, professional VFX Artist here. I really love the way you're documenting your learning path, as well as a great many of the solutions you came up with for the different challenges presented. Not only is the final result visually appealing, but it has that feeling of satisfaction that is often the most important of the many 'secret sauces' required to create compelling VFX. The colours are strong and striking without being oversaturated, the shapes are clear and the textures aren't too noisy. Overall, this is a great recreation of the ability and I'd call this a success. Ship it 👌
just a question , is it possible to make impact frames in 3d animations ? because one right after the shot would have made it divine, (of course not that its not already )
@@AmineSidki-e4h Since this particular shot has a static camera, you can physically draw a flash frame or similar and have it appear in front of everything. If this needed to happen from any angle, you could modify the colors of all elements or do a post-process shader
@@ClassicDev123Ohhhhh, lil bro seems to be jealous... putting a 🤓 emoji makes you seem so pathetic. Bro was saying good work, and sharing his knowledge as another person in the same business. You are so jealous I can feel it!!!
The effect looks really cool! Love the use of the "shockwave" distortion at the end, but I'm surprised you didn't use a similar technique for the world distortion at the charge up stage of the attack.
it looks amazing man, but if you really want the explosion to feel epic, you should add some impact frames, those really help to sell the effect that youre looking for
What's missing is the black hole lensing effect and hue shift - I'd have started with a physically accurate Interstellar-esque black hole shader tbh. But in terms of overall visual fidelity this kinda shows up the limitations of tricks like scrolling textures across spheres etc. Versus the anime using real volumetrics and fluids and lightning simulations rendered in Houdini etc.
This is awesome, I really love that you share your work process and talk about the different struggle-points that you encounter as you go along. I think one thing that might push the impact of the animation overall would be to have the effects speed up as the sphere is accelerating away from the character. That way, it would look like the inside is gaining energy and becoming more volatile as it's flying outwards.
The amount of Impact you added was really good! I would love for you to discover IMPACT FRAMES :D If you step through the original you can see a frame or 2 where the frame goes black and white This create a ton of impact for the viewer!
thats a cool idea! doing them by hand is hard so you could try looking for one that someone already made or make everything white but the character and the energy ball (wich will be black like a shodow) and create lighting randomly all over their surface so it looks distorted, just for a few frames.
This is by far the best you've done, the little details in the lightning and the wind trails not to mention the refraction sphere is perfect. the only other way to enhance the "impact" would be an impact frame itself. which for 3D would be annoying to do and is why films like spiderverse or puss in boots does impact frames in 2D drawn over the 3d
Ah. I know what is missing from these. Anime has impact frames. Usually just a bright white frame where the screen flashes once before the actual thing happens. There's usually the actual effect displayed in black for a moment too. The impact frame is really important. And I think you could benefit a lot from adding them. Even if that's just throwing a shadowless white plane in front of the camera for a moment to imitate it. Overall everything is good. That's my only critique.
This final rendering is masterful. The video is also very well put together, and the way you tell the story of the creative process is really captivating. Very, very good work! If I may say so, even if the final rendering was incredibly accurate and very well executed, I think that a big crack in the ground as the sphere passed through would have made the final composition even spicier than it already is 🔥
it's always stimulating to see when the boundary between something that looks cheap and something actually immersive is crossed (event tho it's a continuum, so you can't really draw a clear line) nice job
also, you could add impact frames to make the punch feel stronger, and in the hollow purple animation, when the purple is growing it has a spherical distortion behinnd it that warps the light like in a black hole
8:30 ish mark, i feel like having the particles swirl was way cooler and didnt make it too noisy, it helps show how powerfully the the ball is spinning
It looks super cool... I'm not a professional GFX expert or animation expert, but I was at the edge of my seat while watching this video expecting you to add some impact frames. It was the first thing that came to my mind when you said you were missing some kick at the part where Gerald launched hollow purple. It would have a lot more spice if it was added, if you're interested, look it up. overall though, I can see this being in an official Jujutsu Kaisen game.
This is brilliant. Also both my favorite things, learning tips and tricks to improve my own work by watching people excel at it, and Jujutsu Kaisen haha
I remember watching the episode that gojo made hollow purple with my brother and at first there was two ball: a blue and a red balls. The balls were moving to overlaps and I just randomly ‘purple’ bc red and blue is purple and it directly said after what I said ‘purple’ my brother was like ‘how TF did you knew?, did you already know ???’ And I was just surprised as him 😂 Anyways your animation is so good !
Incredible video and effects Bro, good job Yours effects style reminds me of another animator and 3D artist called Dillongoo, I don't know if you know him. If you not, it's worth taking a look
I think this looks amazing. A solid 9/10. Now this is coming from someone that doesn’t do vfx, so you can roast me and tell me I don’t know anything and have no right to “criticize.” But I think a couple things that I feel could push this into a 10/10 has to to do with some small details. I think that the lighting should have branches like it does in real life. Also be more curved. Because they did look a little flat and stiff. Another thing I noticed when watching the original is that there is a blue aura around the sphere. But that’s more of a nitpick. And lastly, you can see the space distorting and spiraling around the ball. Now idk how you would do that in 3D, but I think it would be cool to see. So yeah, overall I think pretty much everything else is perfect. So the countless little layers and details that I didn’t talk about are absolutely mind blowing to me. It’s just a few small details I wanted to point out. Anyway, absolutely amazing animation man
it's insane dude just imagine doing it with the background city getting destroyed like you did on the kame hame ha mountain but getting also kinda absorbed by the hollow purple
Some tips that could massively improve this render, the smoke swirling around the ball shouldn't converge in the direction of the ball, instead, because of inersia, the smoke should converge to the opposite direction of the moviment, also, the swirling smoke and the ground smoke should have a more bluish or purplish look since in real life theres always environment light bouncing everywhere inside smoke. In anime you don't need to follow the rules of physics strictly but having some comprehension of how motion usually works can help avoid the awkwardness valley. Despite that, I hope you keep up the good work! i'm not by any means trying to criticize your render or your work, i say this because i wanna help u improve since i like your content so mutch
