CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Alan (Gregory Smith) uses Chip Hazard (Tommy Lee Jones) to overload the transformers and cause an EMP to take out all the evil toy soldiers.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Joe Dante directed this satirical action-comedy about talking tech toys accidentally juiced-up with military microchips. After the defense industry firm Globotech takes over a small toy company, Heartland Play Systems' CEO Gil Mars (Denis Leary) gives the green light to develop a new line of action figures, requesting an upgrade to more realistic figures from Heartland toy designers Larry Benson (Jay Mohr) and fumbling Irwin Wayfair (David Cross). Mars wants toys that act like the ones in TV commercials. The results are fierce fighting figures, the Commando Elite, programmed to seek out and destroy the kindly alien-like Gorgonites. In an effort to make the toys as natural as possible, Benson inserts Globotech's most powerful military computer chips. Meanwhile, in quiet Winslow Corners, Ohio, toy-store owner Stuart Abernathy (Kevin Dunn) and his 15-year-old son Alan (Gregory Smith) are stuck in a failing business, so when Heartland truckdriver Joe (Dick Miller) stops by with the Commando and Gorgonite toys, Alan is convinced they will be hot sellers, commenting, "Maybe this store will finally make a little money." With blistering blows to their blister packs, the Commandos burst out, receive orders from their leader Chip Hazard (voice of Tommy Lee Jones) and ready for an all-out assault on the Gorgonites. When the Gorgonite leader Archer (voice of Frank Langella) begins communicating with Alan, it causes the Commandos to perceive humans as another enemy, simply by their association with the "Gorgonite scum," so an attack on the Abernathy house begins. Unfortunately, the Gorgonites can offer only limited assistance, since they have been programmed to lose. The film combines animatronics, puppetry, and computer animation. The Commando Elite voices include surviving actors from Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen (1967), while the Gorgonite voices reunited several This Is Spinal Tap (1983) cast members. A dedication to Phil Hartman (the voice of Phil Fimple) after the closing credits features a brief Hartman outtake.

I don't know why, but this film always felt like an action-comedy-horror film in my mind. It may be directed at kids, but it's always felt more like an adult-oriented film to me. It seemed a lot darker and freakier than something considered a kids film. I will always see it in a small subcategory of horror film. What do you think?

Well, they rip off the clothes of deformed barbie dolls and turn them into their mindless sex slaves. So yeah, I can see where your coming from. For a kids film this definitely has some sinister moments.
When it first came out it was advertised as a sort of Dark Humor comedy.
I felt it was more of an older kid/teenager film: something like age 9-14. That's actually a difficult demographic to market to in any other manner besides immature comedy (ie. those godawful family films with poop jokes and blatant references to pop culture). This one is a bit subversive as the references are subtle and still work without knowledge of the source material, and it focuses on the darker side of playing with toys as one gets older.
SonicRyan1992 Though they did market it for the young adult crowd too, i remember even Mcdonalds had a non happy meal burger made specially for it (rodeo cheeseburger) and at times they kind of did use sexual puns.

I never understood that part. You can see him throw a Weapon away (His Knife or Archer's Bow & Arrow) to defend himself with. He definitely knew Alan was there (& Alan doesn't take too kindly to the Commandos like we saw with Nick Nitro in the Sink Hahahahaahahahaha). It wouldn't have made a difference because Larry & Irwin were going to send the EMP blast out anyways.

One of the worst movies ever, what about it?
One thing about this film that never made sense to me - why was there only one Chip Hazard through the whole movie? Did they only make one? Did Chip want to avoid a battle for command by being the only one?
They probably made one for one City as well as Archer
There are others, I'm pretty sure you see them on the truck he finds his reinforcements in.
There were multiple in the truck. It is very likely the other Chip Hazards were not activated to avoid confusion of command or a power struggle.
I always wondered that. I figure it's since he's the leader and was shown to be able to activate the other commandos himself. But a Chip might not be able to be activated by another Chip.
Or it's just a plot hole.

mgrchip think of it this way - Archers total potential outstripped Chip Hazard, but Archer was still inexperienced, especially relating to combat. Given enough time for training, Archer would has easily beaten Chip in a one on one fight.

I bet they all lost power probably for weeks & probably even had to get some circuits & such replaced.
That's what I think most likely happened.

I wish archer could have done that even if it means to cost him his sacrifice. But I still imagine archer was the one who destroyed the power pole. first after regaining his conscience after being kicked down he managed to used the same nail 🏹 that he used to gravel hook himself up but this time instead he shot out the power plug which Allen thought he destroyed chip which is impossible. After that he and his gorgonites took cover but not before leaving his crossbow out hoping Alan would find them first.

The death scene is very cartoonish and kinda creepy at the same time, you can tell that this is a Joe Dante flick and that’s not a bad thing.
No lie, this Scene always fascinated me with the Telephone Pole's Transformers exploding. Unfortunately, it stinks when the Power goes out for a while.
