My biggest fear in life...losing my sight. Incredible respect to these athletes to overcome their disability of impaired sight. I cannot even imagine. I have no idea how you do it.
It definitely isn’t easy. Take it from someone who is visually impaired and has been that way for 19 years. Technically not a full 19 because I lost my side at two years old, but that’s how it feels. Funny though, your biggest fear is losing your sight, my biggest fear would be regaining my sight. When being visually impaired is all you know, it becomes difficult to imagine not being that way anymore. Plus it introduced me to all these types of sports that I never would’ve known about otherwise, so that’s another cool thing.
I started losing my vision when I turned 18 years old and was officially announced as legally blind back in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Though, honestly, my eyesight had never been very good to begin with. I was myoptic (near-sighted) and had worn glasses for as long as I could remember...meaning I was already visually impaired to begin with. It could just still be corrected back then with the help of glasses, contacts, or surgery. That's no longer an option for me, now. Anyways, when I first began to lose my vision it was devastating to me as I was a hobby artist, wrote fanfiction, loved to read, and was a very big arts and crafts person...and as I lost vision the ways in which I partook in those hobbies previously no longer worked for me. I had a period of time in which I was grieving the loss of my eyesight - which is perfectly natural, of course. But you don't really get a choice in some things in life and this was one of those times for me. All you can do is keep going and to slowly figure out ways to continue with what you love or to find new things to enjoy. Now I honestly can't even imagine what it would be like to have my vision again and the thought of it returning is actually just as terrifying as the thought of losing it had been for me in the beginning. Honestly, there's not much to it. You just continue on with your life and adapt little by little until it becomes your new norm. To me it's comparable to changing your schedule or moving into a new house, in a way. You get used to it.
@@elijahhedgemondakasupersai1075 Elijah, believe me, most people in this world are blind; not because they cannot see, but because they choose not to. And if you regained your sight, you would be shocked at what you would see.
I just discovered this sport because it was on tv tonight during the Paralympics. It looks very competitive. I would have a hard time adjusting without my sight and relying on sound awareness.
I went to the Paralympic Games in London and watched goalball for the first time. It was fun, it was electric. And the fact that you had to be complitly silent during the game grew the hype to then loudly cheer for the goals. I might be wrong but there was one guy in one of the teams asking the audiance to cheer like the one at 1:27. If you have the chance go and watch this sport. To all the athlets: have a great time!
I watching this during my trivia night and I found this interesting. I didn't know that a sport like this existed and that it is great that they found a sport that would accommodate the visual impaired.
there is a disability sports booth in my school and i played this game. damn! it was hard . when your blindfolded and the ball hits you, IT IS PAINFUL. like you don’t know it’s coming. we were sitting though because it was outdoor so the floor was rough . this game was interestingly interesting
The mayor of my town is famous for helping people with disabilities, and he is especially supportive of such people's participation in sports and games!
I'm legally blind and my partner just sent me this video because he was curious if there were any sports for visually impaired folks, lolol. This definitely seems interesting and like it would be a bit nerve wrecking! Certainly something that would get the adrenaline going.
Waves finnisn flag... realizes they are blind and can't see his support... slowly puts down flags.. continues cheering. That group was into the sport fs.
I remember doing goalball for the Junior Blind Olympics when i was in jr high. I kinda sucked, but i got to go to California and some theme parks so that was fun
I'm not blind but I actually really want to play this. It seems fun. Just make me wear blindfold or something, I can pretend to be blind for like an hour :D
Yo I’ve turned on my tv and I didn’t know what it was so I searched it and it’s turkey 6 and Australia 2 I’m Australian and slightly disappointed that we’re losing by so much
May there never be a modification that allows the crowd to be loud without distraction to the players, and may the one who tries to propose such a thing become blind themselves!

Mine, too. I am terribly frightened of darkness.

You underestimate the power of the brain - once the brain cannot rely on visual cues it redirects way more power to auditory sensations.
This is by far the most badass sport I’ve seen. Rely only on sound. That’s some serious ninja skills.

Watching this actually makes me tear up because I take my eyesight for granted.

Im blind and this game saved my life.
It's such a cool game. I fell in love with it when I saw Israel vs Turkey women's team in the olympics

Can't wait to play for Perkins this years. Absolutely one of my favorite sports.
InstaBlaster.

Wait, how did you watch the video if you are blind
This is a great sport. It demands diverse skills such as endurance, spatial orientation, precise communication ... it is really interesting to watch.
I play this sport at a national high school level and it’s so fun and I’m so glad this sport exists it gives so many people hope including me
This, is, phenomenal!!! 😃
Thanks for a great instructional vid!!

That group was into the sport fs.
But they have a coach who can tell them that they are cheering them on.🎉
Absolutely incredible...why the hell nbc isn't posting videos of these from Olympics

I'm visually impaired and playing this sport at school.
This is insane! How to they know where to shoot and where to block? By just hearing? That's absolutely incredible.

You can join a practice squad but to play in a tournament u have to be visually impaired.
TBH I'm VI but still have most of my vision. I've played on state (Australian) level - so for sure you don't need to be legally blind to play!
@@cora-illus hiii i am VI too
I started watching goalball in this Paralympics and want to give it a try but don't know if my city has it
Decided to play Google's game and now I'm here.
Yo I’ve turned on my tv and I didn’t know what it was so I searched it and it’s turkey 6 and Australia 2 I’m Australian and slightly disappointed that we’re losing by so much
Are they allowed to throw it? Or are their a certain amount of bounces it can have?
Candi Soda
No the players throw it and you don’t really know where it’s going it makes it more tense.
It has to be thrown underhand and bounce at least once before it crosses to the other team's side.

Im a player of that sport but wait until you see oir main player she can defend the goal while standing
お世話になります。

This game looks interesting. It should be allowed for all, also for not visually impared people (with masks of course).
Really interesting sport
Very very cool
just found this! Goalball is fucking electric no joke!
Where are their dogs?
Interesting game
Thanx😍
observation haki will be acquired in this game
Can non-blind people play goalball?
The rules would have to be changed significantly, otherwise most matches would have a score of 0-0 (maybe at max there'd be 1 or 2 goals)
google got me looking up interesting sports
Boa tarde Família :)
