    Sir, thanks for the vid. Considering the age of this is there a newer battery that you would suggest using now in 2020?

    Can you do same upgrade for the newest Sherpa 100 AC and PD versions? I have the newest versions as well as the ones from a few years ago, same design except for the tilted display screen on the newest (2024) versions.

    I have watched your video many times, so attempted to change the batteries on my Goal Zero 100. I give up. I have redone it so many times and still have that darn error. I believe that I put it together correctly but no go. My soldering efforts leave a little to be desired. My question is do you want to try to repair it for the boy scouts? It may be beyond repair at this point. If yes, where do I send it?

      I appreciate your offer, but this model is long obsolete and there are now better options out there that don’t cost an arm and leg.

    My Friend, I have a sherpa 100PD 4th generation (not ac version). Do you know/can you help me open it without destroying the case? It has bad cell (i'm pretty sure) and need to open and replace it. there are screws in the back and slide off rubber pieces on the side but no obvious way to remove it from the aluminum case after that. No visible screws or snaps on the front face. Your help is appreciated. Of course, no assistance from goal zero given on disassembly. Thanks. Terry

    Have you seen a case where you connect the new batteries, test them get the battery display to read a % charged, in my case 80%, and then go back to battery error? I checked all my weld and solder points, checked continuity across the batteries and voltage across the stack and all seem positive. Any suggestions?

    Hi, I have the same Sherpa 100 and today it started flashing both the 12v and Laptop circles after I plugged in a piece of equipment via the 12v car adapter cable. Shows the battery fault icon and the current state of charge 80%. I'm able to turn on the little led light but the USB ports are not working. Any advice as to what it may be? Is there another fuse inside between the 12v and battery that may have blown?

Ive already sent it to our local goalzero distributor and repaircenter but they werent able to fix it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. This videos gave me another hope to reuse my sherpa. Keep up the great work

      It sounds like either a switch problem or something haywire with your circuitry. Sorry, but GZ doesn't offer any repair parts so it looks like you are out of luck.

    Hi, where can I get a chaining cable for Sherpa 100/50? Please advise

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea. I tried to locate one for two years and Goal Zero was never able to produce one. One of their salesmen suggested that after the initial production run demand was low so they never made any more. Irrelevent now because the old Sherpa line in this video is now obsolete & been replaced w/better, higher capacity units at a lower cost. Good luck!

  • @tedhancock68
    @tedhancock68 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't use a knife or anything sharp to pry those batteries out. I can tell you from experience that they puncture easily and shoot a fountain of sparks just like fireworks. Also, storage charge for lithium ion batteries is not 20%. That will severely shorten battery life. The manufacturers say 40% but these batteries are designed to stay at 90 - 100% for best performance.

    So you are saying to remove your sticker before taking it on the plane? :-) I mean would they know without taking it apart?

    • @YoshiYamamoto
      @YoshiYamamoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would not know. But if your battery did burn, blow up, etc.. and they found out it was modified through the investigation, you would be charged with a crime. If the plane crashed and/or people were killed you will be in prison for a long long time for pre-meditated homicide. So basically, don't do anything you are not supposed to... even if no one is watching :)

      @daviddesrosiers5942 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      > and they found out it was modified through the investigation, you would be charged with a crime.
      And you think the removal of the sticker would somehow absolve you of that crime? That's not how it works.

    There are also 4200mah 18650 batteries. But I only see them with a point. Would those also work? Is there room for the battery with pin?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there is no room. Also, the 4200s are probably fake.

    • @YoshiYamamoto
      @YoshiYamamoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no 4200 mAH batteries. They are fake. I test batteries all the time. I just bought and tested a battery labeled 5,000 mAH and it tested at 1100 mAH. Best way to tell is the weight, if you do not have a charger that tests mAH. Get a real 18650, it will be MUCH heavier than a fake one. Very noticable.

    • @tedhancock68
      @tedhancock68 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anything above 3500mah is a fake. This will not change until the glass/solid state batteries are available to the public.

    What source are you using to ensure genuine brand 18650's? I've had terrible luck with eBay, mixed results with Amazon.

    • @stevec5000
      @stevec5000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, they look like fakes!

    • @cup_and_cone
      @cup_and_cone 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Panasonic's do look like that, it's just that unfortunately you can't tell by pictures because it's merely a heat shrink wrapper anyone can copy and use on junk cells. Best way to tell if they're genuine is just using a smart charger and seeing how much they take from full discharge. Knockoffs won't even bother being anywhere close to 3000mah, because it's too expensive to manufacture that much capacity.

  • @stratocrewzr
    @stratocrewzr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would the NITECORE NL1835 - 18650 3500mAh 8A 3.6V work in this Sherpa? I'd like to upgrade and want maximum capacity. Perhaps going for the extra 100mAh isn't worth the price difference.

    They didn't use those cells because it was "older technology", they did it so it would make the pack compliant with TSA regulations and guidelines. Can you make a bigger pack with cells that have more capacity? Absolutely, but now you can't travel with it.
