  • A great grip break into a wrist lock for BJJ gi and no gi. This is a standard defensive grip break or wrist lock from traditional jujutsu as well, but is very effective in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and judo. The grip break can be used as is, or continued into a nikyo style wrist lock from aikido, aikijujutsu, and chin na.

I like this kotedzume done by body more than done by hands only.

Your work is awesome! A lot of stuff that is common in aikido/Aikijitsu can be exploited as blind spots in bjj/mma

You can’t break a grip using only the bicep as demonstrated here. Torri needs to get under uki’s grip first (think clean and jerk) and simultaneously must prevent uki from adjusting to compensate. Some ways to do this are decoy wrist attacks of the opposite hand, faint sweep attempt or head tap as seen in wrestling

As you stated, there are many ways to accomplish this when under real pressure. Works great in guard as well.

But do "Wrist Locks" really work?

Yeah they do, just lower precentage techniques

@@timsimmons7916Used in jiujitsu comps all the time. Most will not prep for them.

Yes, most commonly a counter to “wrist control” which is super important in wrestling or lapel or sleeve grabs as commonly applied in judo. There’s a good chewjitsu video on the subject where he goes into the deterrent effect for BJJ application as well.

But will it work against a gorilla with an AK-47🤔

This technique should only be attempted after the first frost of the season to be effective in your scenario.
