Poly might need to re-design the charging port area of the case and the cover. First of all the hole on the case is too narrow. It's almost impossible to pick up the headset from the charging port without another hand to hold the case. I had to use a file to make the hole wider ... helped a bit. After using it for one year, some areas near the charging contacts were worn, which caused problem for the contacts to contact properly ... often need to wiggle a bit so it charges. The desktop charger of the predecessor Voyager was doing a good job. I guess it's integrated into the case as cost down measure.
I've had three (or four) of the Plantronics Voyager 5200s over the past five years or so. For the first few years my team liked the audio quality and I didn't have any issues using with the iPhone, but for some reason they don't seem to be able to stay connected to my iPhone XR for more than a few minutes any more. I'm constantly turning the headset on and off and fiddling with Bluetooth in the phone, with no luck, even with the phone right next to the headset. The firmware is up to date using the PLT app on my iPone. I get the same results on both of the headsets. I don't have another phone to test with, but maybe I should try the iPad...or the USB adapter.
Interesting and good idea on testing with a different phone or with the USB Dongle to your computer. If the same result I’d recommend contacting Poly to see if they have any suggestions because what you’re experiencing sounds out of the ordinary.
@@HeadsetAdvisor I've re-discovered that my BT600 dongle and voyager 5200 work well together but disconnect when I get downstairs. Audio works well together. I haven't tried the iPad yet, but connection to my government iPhone drops repeatedly on every call. The Evolve2 75 advertises 30 meters and BT700 164 feet, which would both be enough for me. I might try the Chinese battery in my failing Jabra 9450. That one has GREAT range and sound quality.
I can buy a $5 toy with an USB-C port but this $180 headset uses USB micro ... unbelievable. Seriously, that made me stop the video, not interested anymore. I also fear that if they make such a questionable decision that it might not be the only one. Nice channel though!
Even though I just ordered the Shokz Opencomm2 UC from you, this has been my favorite headset for many years. I am on my fifth one because they only take so much being stepped on, broken, or washed in the washer with the laundry. This is why I am on my fifth model. I would pick it over earbuds any day. Thank you for the review.
Wow your 5th one?!? That’s true it is small and lightweight and can be broken. I do like the opencomm2 very unique hopefully you don’t have to buy so many of those ones haha
Hi @JMJ3rd I'm desperately curious about the background noise performance comparison of Opencomm2 UC against the (amazing) 5200 UC? Reviews I've watched of the Opencomm suggest a lot more noise comes through to the caller but with enough voice priority to still make you easy to understand - but it seems callers to the Opencomm will know for sure that you're in a cafe whereas the 5200 could easily fool them that you're in a quiet room? Does that match your experience?
@@martynhanmore9749 I will start asking my callers what they are hearing. I haven't had any complaints, as of yet, but now I am curious. I wish there was a way for you to call, without giving my number to the world, so that you could hear it for yourself.
The bluetooth dongle looks like what Poly offers with the Focus 2. This was my favorite headset because of the Answer / Ignore voice control which makes it perfect for driving work. I ended up switching to the Shokz stereo headset because it allows you to hear everything in both ears although it still doesn't offer voice control of Answer / Ignore that Poly Voyager 5200 does Also the UC dongle that Poly offers works with Shokz devices.
You're right the Dongle for this model is the same as the Focus 2 UC and any of the newer generation models. That's good to know the Dongle is cross compatible as well!
When using the UC dongle, the earpiece seems to eat battery life much faster than spec. If you Sleep or Hibernate your PC, Microsoft at times cannot reconnect the UC through the USB channel, however switching USB ports can at times wiggle that loose. If using MS Sync with a Laptop and Smartphone for instance, and both ring a Teams call or meeting, the two devices can get confused as which has answered. I have a Z-Fol4 4. Have used Poly's for years. Tried Jawbone, Jabra 70, even the Buds 2. Still recommending this device with the case.
Thanks for the review, as always very complete. The voyager 5200 UC is a very reliable device; just as you said, its design and features makes it very popular product. I wanted to buy this one, but I just read that the Voyager Free 60 is on the way, and these are a pair of earbuds I was waiting to see from Poly: enterprise earbuds with a BT700. I hope you have a chance to premier a review on the Poly Voyager Free 60.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching! We’re excited about the Voyager 60 and hope they live up to the hype. If the mic performs anywhere near the 5200 then it will be a winner.
From your review,it looks like the "update" on the Plantronics 5200 is 1) new improved dongle. 2) new charging box+ USB-C cable 3) "Poly" imprint on earpiece.
Pretty much thanks for the summary. It’s some basic improvements but still one of the best over the ear bluetooth headsets on the market. If your wondering about the mic we built a voting app we tested it against all the leading headsets check it out vote.headsetadvisor.com
Good review on what looks like a great product. They should make them with hearing aide technology built in for elderly and hearing impaired people and the product would be perfect.

How is the noise cancellation in outdoor scenarios ? Is it possible to add tests for situations like 1) Walking on a noisy road 2) Jogging on a noisy road 3) Driving in a car with windows down ?
Did you watch the very beginning of the video? You hear a live mic test of the headset if you were outside walking and if cars were driving by. The 5200 is one of the best for outdoor situations, like walking on a windy day, driving with windows down etc..
@@HeadsetAdvisor For traditional phone call, the noise cancellation works very well, however, if i switch to WhatsApp call, the noise cancellation was not good enough. My friends heard my background noise very clear. Maybe you can try a WhatsApp call testing.

My Poly 5200 uc is 1 year old this month. Not happy today. Have had 4 of these Plantronics/poly Voyagers that each had lasted YEARS until this one. I use it daily. The first one was used as a chew toy, but the next 2 were great until callers started complaining they couldn't hear me (even at my max volume settings). This 1-year-old one is already at that point sadly, and it may be the last Poly for me. It feels like "they just don't make 'em like they used to" :(

Hi great video! For the Original Plantronics Voyager, Not the Poly branded one Is there a app for the settings? Asking because I saw the Plantronics Hub app is no longer available. Found one of the original Plantronics Voyager 5200 UC for sale online but worried that I won't be able to go into the settings to adjust it for my liking. Is there still a way to go into the settings and for any software updates now in Oct 2024 ? Thanks
Thanks for this video, I've been waiting for an update on the 5200 for quite a while. It doesn't sound like they have changed the mic, though? Technically you can connect a Bluetooth headset to the computer and for some it works well and many others it's the complete opposite of what you've experienced. The USB Dongle provides a more reliable connection, better audio and advanced features like being able to answer/end calls from the headset with compatible call software.

Make sure the headset is fully up to date in Poly Lens, and also go to your start menu > Device Manager > sound and video game controllers > see if you have a setting called intel smart sound. If so disable this, restart computer and test it again to see if any difference

A new version would be nice. With USB-C and updated tech and battery life.
Definitely
I can buy a $5 toy with an USB-C port but this $180 headset uses USB micro ... unbelievable. Seriously, that made me stop the video, not interested anymore. I also fear that if they make such a questionable decision that it might not be the only one. Nice channel though!
Totally Agree, It is a deal breaker for me as well@@notlocalhorst

Thanks for the feedback, John!

Or is there any way to active this function, because, as a salesman, i need to know if there is a call even when its not on my ears. Thanks in advance for your answers friends.
The headset won't ring as it's charging but your mobile phone or computer should ring or be able to be set to default for it to ring.
