    The takedown recurve bow is one of the most popular choices for recreational archers and traditional bowhunters. In this video, Lancaster Archery Supply TechXPert P.J. Reilly walks through the steps to set up the Samick Sage recurve bow.

    One thing you might have mentioned for the people that are new to bow setup. They should setup the bow and get brace height set and let the string get some of its stretching done before you set your nock points

    • @terry36611
      @terry36611 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Stretching done, then reset brace height* Before setting nock points

      I’ve been waiting to set my nocks for this reason. My bow string has stretched about 2 inches since I put it on.
      So just record your brace height(s) to be sure no more stretching is going on, then nock.

    Very helpful video. I just bought a sage from Lancaster and was just shuffled through. Very little information was given to me on set up. Told to use my foot to string a recurve when I asked if I need a stringer. No box or paperwork. Being a beginner I drove to lancaster to hopefully gain some knowledge on what i should be doing. Big disappointment and waste of my time. I've learned more online. I guess it's more important to help the guys with the expensive compounds.

    Have you reviewed the *"WONDER FITTER"* in home archery system? It looks like they are selling it as a fitness & training device. The channel is *Wonderfitter Luke.* out of Hong Kong. He's talking about "reverse" archery. I've been shooting a recurve for half a century & never heard that term. They also say their system "uses real recurve bows and *blunt dry-firing arrows* ..." 🤔

  • @abhinavaggarwal4062
    @abhinavaggarwal4062 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm only beginning with archery but before setting the knock points, I was aligning the arrow straight straight against the rest but after setting my knock points 3/8ths of an inch higher from the center, according to your video, my arrow is resting kinda tilted. I don't know if that's the way it's supposed to be?

    • @LancasterArcherySupply
      @LancasterArcherySupply  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is supposed to be that way. This allows for proper clearance as the arrow leaves the bow. If you went with a level nocking point, you could have clearance issues.

  • @schullieringer
    @schullieringer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have noticed with another seller that offers set up that you can choose between 3 under or split for the nok points. So my question is, is the recommendation you give in this video for 3 under or split or for either? Also, I'm curious about the brace height...will I need to reset that any time I take down the bow or does the string generally keep the twists that you've added to it for the proper height.

  • @braingasim
    @braingasim 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What do you do about the alignment of the nocking points when you unstring the bow after you shoot? Meaning, you need to exactly know the correct amount of twists. And what to so when the string stretches
    .

    • @LancasterArcherySupply
      @LancasterArcherySupply  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Couple things.....when you unstring the bow, you can just slide one end of the string down the limb so it actually stays connected, and then it does not untwist. If you are going to remove the string to break the bow down, you should connect the loop ends so it doesn't untwist. Also, when you string the bow each time, measure the brace to make sure that number is consistent. If you measure each time, then you know right away if you need to add/remove twists.

    • @braingasim
      @braingasim 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh ok, so you don't need to replace the nocks, just adjust the amount of twists?

    • @LancasterArcherySupply
      @LancasterArcherySupply  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@braingasim Correct....set the brace height the same every time and leave the nocking points where they are.

    Without tightening beyond finger tight, every step past that is useless and a potential hazard if a loosening limb should shift the string out the string grooves under tension, I am guessing.
    Isn't there a tool to center line an adjustable arrow rest to the center of the limb bolts for perfect alignment ?
    I'm having difficulty seeing exactly where the end of the plunger should be, the place where it touches the arrow.
    When setting up, can the plunger be set initially, half the diameter of an arrow shaft using the string alignment as dead center ?
    I am not totally sure if my arrow is exactly perpendicular to my plunger rest and the arrow on the string to the target.
    I am guessing at most of this alignment stuff because of the lack of proper equipment and going by eyeball mostly. It just seems to be a better way of knowing for sure before I go target an arrow.

    • @LancasterArcherySupply
      @LancasterArcherySupply  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With this style bow, you don't want to tighten the limb bolts beyond finger tight. You can actually cause damage to the riser if you use a wrench or some other tool to tighten the bolts further. Hand-tight is sufficient. With this bow setup, we didn't use a plunger, so you wouldn't see anything here relating to a plunger. I think you might be thinking of an Olympic recurve setup, which we didn't do in this video. This is a recreational/traditional recurve setup.

    • @claycampbell2263
      @claycampbell2263 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lancaster Archery Supply Thank you for reply. I really don't know because I am coming over from self longbows. My statement would be more a rhetorical question, never to troll.
      By finger tight, would snugged tightly be more sufficient ? And check it regularly as a maintenance procedure ?
      I noticed looseness in mine, the limbs had slight lateral movement, it this normal ?
      With limb movement, string seems to want to jump out of the grooves, I would have difficulty keeping my arrow alignment consistent the target.
      Thank you again, for your response. Much appreciate your answer and vids.

  • @nola3157
    @nola3157 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've necer understood why people use two nocks. the nock under the arrow can cause the arrow to pinch or fall off if too close and can also cause a shooter to nock an arrow under both nocks with a follow up shot where you can't take your eyes off the deer or other target. If anything I would put two nocks on top, next to each other to prevent slippage. Of course, I wouldn't use a brass nock anyway, a tied on knot is lighter, stays put usually, and rarely causes a cut in the serving like a brass nock can especially if you are using a string with mono type serving, which is something else I wouldn't do.

    • @NorthForkFisherman
      @NorthForkFisherman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      RS - OK, what model are we talking about here specifically? Some take-down's (like my Impala) have places where you can adjust the pocket / mount where the limb bolts on. If you have a pronounced limb twist, you might be able to adjust that. However, if it's too far gone, it might be a limb replacement. Also, if the limb bolts are torqued properly, the string should never loosen.

    Hey everyone, I know this is a WHILE after this vid came out so I don’t expect a reply anytime soon but I was wondering: If we add twists to the bowstring do the twists undo themselves each time? Do we have to retwist each time we string the bow?

    • @LancasterArcherySupply

      The twists will not undo themselves unless you remove the string from the bow. The string might stretch, which would then require adding more twists, but as long as the string is on the bow, the original twists you put in it will stay in place.

    I'm just learning and after 1 min 40 seconds I'm confused. You said the one with writing on the back is the bottom limb and the big loop goes over the top limb, but then you put the big loop over the limb you called the bottom limb (the one with writing on the back).

      Ah, I know what happened. At the start you have to bottom on the right side. I just noticed at 1min 20 sec there is a camara cut and the bottom is now on the left side.

    I don’t understand what I did wrong? The string is too close to my hand so when I release it snaps my palm every time. I already did the whole twist the string thing & it just still too close yo my hand.

    How do you flex it to put the string on if you don't have a bow stringer?
