I bought the M2 Air when it came out and have really enjoyed it so far. My use case so far was entertainment, taking notes, creating some light iMovies and some light coding. It is also my first Mac and I was debating between the M1 Pro and the M2 Air at the time. I decided to go with the air because of the design and weight. (The design is what sold me on the M2 instead of the M1 Air)

I second this, and the base model works great for these uses. I also have an m1 pro mbp for the more intensive tasks that need more power, but I rarely end up using it.

I used the 14” M1 Pro for 6 months. I’m not a very heavy user. I sometimes make video animations in Blender using Cycles & light coding in Xcode. I switched to the M2 Air 2 months ago and I’ve loved it so much! It’s portability over performance for me. Think about what your prioritise. The 14” was too heavy and chunky for me. The sharp edges dug into my wrists a lot. It was very problematic for me when typing for long.

! Hi ), Am planing to get my first MacBook
I ll use the MacBook Air for
      1. Multiple tabs in browser - article reading and TH-cam videos.
      2. Content viewing.
      3. Ppt
      3. Since am planing to get iPhone 15 pro, may be learn to do minor photo & video editing ( tour videos).
      4. Teleradiology ( viewing and very minor graphic processing 2D to volume rendering) _ bigger screen is better here.
      5. Use my iPad as sidecar in reporting.
      6. May connect a monitor in future.
With these uses, Since MacBook Air is well built am planing to use for atleast few years 5plus
Should I get 8 or 16 gb ram keeping in mind on the works and future proofing for macOS updates.

Have been using the M2 air (16, 512) for a week now & have been pretty stoked so far. Absolutely beautiful machine. I appreciate the argument that the M1 Pro or M1 Air offer more value for money. But for me, the M2 Air's design and form factor was the most important part. The M1 Pro may offer better performance, but I'm not a pro user and prefer a portable machine. The M1 Air may be a better deal, but I much prefer the design of the M2 Air. Overall I chose the form factor over "value for money" and was happy to pay a little bit more to get the machine that I'll enjoy using in the long run. Regardless, hard to make a poor decision with Apple's current lineup. Go with your gut!

Used the MBP 14 inch M1 pro for a month and returned it for a macbook air m2 with 8 gbs of ram and 512 ssd. I have to say, the M2 is lightning fast, and I still haven't come across any real life scenerios where the MBP beats the MBA. I love my MBA and I don't regret switching the 14 inch MBP for the MBA.

I was able to get an M2 silver base model (the color I actually wanted) for $848 last week as an open box 5 days after its original purchase from Best Buy. I wanted something small and portable that I could take to class and work. As a graduate student in Public Health and Information Systems this machine has held up to what I do but in the coming days I’ll be able to test it further as classes for my IS degree pick up again. #M2 I was really on the fence between the M1 and M2 Air a few weeks ago when I decided that get my first MacBook in like a decade. What pushed me over the edge to the M2 was the hardware design with the improved screen, keyboard and magsafe. I was able to get one refurbished from apple and have been super happy with it. I got the M2 MBA 16/512 refurbished for 1200$ and I’m extremely happy with it, had a 14 MBP before but portability is a must for me.
The MBA is so slick, light and powerful for what I do. I do not edit photos or videos, I’m not a software engineer and I do not compose music. I just need a snappy, light and powerful laptop for my office work, Finance apps and light coding. Very pleased with it

    • @0tispunkm3y3r
      @0tispunkm3y3r ปีที่แล้ว

@@heefq8121 it definitely is. But for LR I've seen that it can easily max out the 8GB of ram and once it's done that it can actually slow the whole process down as it can't feed the processor fast enough. On the flip side, if you can get the CPU fed fast enough, large exports will see the cpu throttle once it gets too hot (usually after 5-10 minutes).
I reckon for occasional LR use and exporting maybe a few tens to couple hundred images in one go, it's going to be fine.

#M2 At 12:25 when you're controlling the M2 Air with the M1 that is called Universal Control! What's really terrifying about it is you can move files directly from one device to the other one just by dragging it. I'm leaning to the Pro/Max series but it's amazing just how the M1/M2 Air opens up developers and creatives in general to power for under $1000, which would have cost several times as much a few years ago. Sure, it's not going to replace a 128 core RTX rig, but you can churn a lot of great stuff relatively seamlessly compared to an x86 in a similar price range.

So I decided on buying the M2 MacBook Air recently and I honestly do not regret it (so far) because it fits the basic needs that I will be using it for on a daily basis. It's lighter and sure, it is smaller than I am used it but I don't hate it.
The only thing I wish I considered more was buying one with 512GB of SSD memory but that would've be +$200 and I happened to have gotten a great deal with my brand new M2 MacBook that I just could not pass the basic model and pay $250 less than current price of $1199.

I got 16 / 512 M2 Air. As a fullstack developer, and a multitasker, the machine is insane. Coming from windows, I had so much pain in the ass while setting an old version of LAMP for my company, but everything else is great. I used pro models too, and they are thick, dense and heavy AF, and for what, more gpu cores? No thanks. I feel like air and pro should have some CPU gap too but they don't really, and perform same on low power mode, which you should be on while on battery anyways. 15 inch Air will be a solid choice when it comes out. But 13.6 is very compact and capable.

The last time I bought a Mac was a 15” MacBook Pro in 2016, and it blew my mind that for the price I bought my older comp I can max out an M2 MacBook Air and get over 4 times the ram and the space and it won’t be as heavy. Yes my old comp has all the old ports but I’ll take a dongle if it means I can get 2TB of space and more ram than I’ll need in it’s lifetime. I started doing video editing on my old Mac and decided to upgrade since the fans would kick in every time I tried editing and it would lag really bad. I’m hoping with the M2 I can increase the speed and quality of my new videos. But I’m excited! Especially since my old computer won’t update past Big Sur so now I’ll get to learn all the new software updates.

I was a proud owner of the m2 MacBook Air midnight color with the 512g.. but then i started getting the safari warnings of not being able to open up webpages due to not enough memory which i had plenty of storage but ram i was hitting 7gig of ram. And i didn’t know what was going on. Im a student, although i do do a lot of multitasking with TH-cam in the background and multiple tabs open but they never exceeded 10. I did have other apps like Microsoft word, craft (my note taking app) and voice memos from my saved lectures running at the same time.. Best Buy guy told me this laptop wasn’t enough so got me to upgrade to the MacBook Pro M1 Pro. Which im liking the screen and speaker quality on it. But i do miss the MacBook Air portability. I need 512 GB storage and 16 GB memory to work comfortably daily. the store discounts on M1 MacBook Pro 14" brought the price point down to to the level of M2 MacBook Air. I didn't give a second thought. I went with it. I think in 2023 a heavy discount on 14" M1 Pro is a much better deal over upgraded M1 MacBook Air.

The US pricing is just so different. For whatever reason, it's relatively easy to pay around 1500USD for the 16/512 option of the M2 air. While it's rare to see the 14 pro base model below 1999USD. It's new laptop time for me, and the battery/performance ratio has me interested in MacBooks.
I've recently gotten into some light video production with a friend. And even the M2 air seems like it's much more powerful than my 5 year old enterprise grade windows machine, which does the workflow just fine.
These videos confuse me as some, like, you say the M2 air simply cannot do any kind of video or photo editing. It will crash and fail, you *need* the pro. If that's the case, what is apple doing? I can do these tasks on a half decade old Thinkpad without discrete graphics...

I think Apple fans expected too much from a second generation; efficiency and power were always going to be amazing going from x86 to ARM. But from M1 to M2; it’s almost as if they were expecting at least 50%+ gains in every single category. And, in my opinion, this is the fault of our consumer age. Consume consume consume, without patience or thought. It’s kind of sad that technological advancements are stifled by people who have zero patience.

#M2 I got the base model M2 Air in midnight on launch day. I'm the pastor of a small church, so the church bought it for me to upgrade from the 2017 12 inch MacBook I'd been using for the previous 5 years (that laptop wasn't near as bad as some say!). I don't have a crazy workload as far as computing power goes. The most intensive things I do on it are Photoshop and audio editing. I think the base model has plenty of horsepower for the majority of people. My laptop is docked at my desk about 95% of the time, so wear and tear hasn't been much of an issue. I just wipe it off after taking it on the go the one or two times a week I have to. The fingerprints on the midnight color are no joke.
I would echo what many have said...if you're on any Intel based Mac, you will not regret the switch to an Apple silicon machine.

Sure, the price was similar to some MacBook Pro models ($2,500), but I don't care about that, because I want the super thin design and lightweight body more than anything else, and buying a 14-inch MacBook Pro won't give me that.

I use an M2 Air, 15 inch, for about some two weeks now. Compared to my old 2017 Air, which I bought with maxed-out specs including CPU upgrade, I like the fanless design and the bigger screen. Though the 15" Air is no longer a true Air in the sense of its portability. It is a thin and lightweight 15" laptop, sure, but just a liiittle too big and too heavy.
Bought the 16G/1T version because I want to use it as my main work computer, keeping the old Windows desktop for games. The Macbook performance is overall quite good but with too many applications open, it can become sluggish at times. When I remember to close Lightroom when I don't need it, it is much better. The M2 performance, especially the GPU with 10 instead of 7 or 8 cores compared to M1, is much welcomed. For home use, even editing a large batch of Raw photos while having two different Bloon TD games running in the background in order to do the daily quests, while listening to a podcast, all that without fan noise, is quite good. But quite expensive, too. I plan to add a screen later, for now my bank account has to recover from the expense :D

of course the M2 is not as big as a leap like the M1 Air. But why is it viewed through the lens if an M1 user should upgrade? The M2 is there to attract buyers who don't have an Apple-silicon Macbook Air yet. If they would have continued to use M1, the performance comparison to Windows laptops would not be as favorable.

I've been stuck with the dilemma of the MacBook Air M1 vs the MacBook Air M2. I just use the MacBook for watching TH-cam, Netflix, browsing the web, working in Word documents for school, ... and every TH-camr was kinda going nuts over the 'slow SSD issue'. It drove me crazy and I was panicking regarding which model to choose. I went with the M2 and I felt bad because I was scared of this issue. Now two months later I'm so happy with my decision. The hardware changes like Magsafe and the bigger and brighter display are very nice. It's my first ever MacBook so the jump from my old, cheap (and slow...) windows pc is massive. From time to time I'm still worried about the SSD, but it seems like the 'drama' around it kinda faded away and your words did me well. The average user like me won't notice much and I probably won't notice anything ever for that fact... Thank you for calming me down. I also went with the 16GB RAM version, so this Mac is probably overkill for my usage and I'm not as worried anymore about the SSD. The most intensive work I do on a regular basis is opening multiple PDF documents and having like 10 to 20 safari tabs open at the same time and most of the time even only one tab open for TH-cam... It's an amazing laptop and even tho the M1 gives you more value for money, it's nice to have the new design that will stay modern for years to come. Again, thanks to lower my stress level... I'll definitely subscribe!
