I disagree. The 2004 version looks far superior to me due to the coloring looking nicer (even though it isn't as accurate), the head of it looks better (2016's is too long), and I despise how the technic axles are just exposed on the 2016 model. I'd pay more money to have the 2004 version, but ideally there'll be a better UCS Y-Wing eventually that's somewhat of a combination of the 2.
The 2018 version seems like the Red-5 edition of its kind. The 2013 UCS X-Wing still looks incredible to this day and the UCS sets, in my opinion, need to stand the test of time and the same should be said non-UCS kits that still represent the same concept (Batmobile, Helicarrier). The 2004 version was in the early years of the brand, 5 years after the first Star Wars sets... so the 2018 version shows how much progress we've done since then.
One thing to also note and I'm sure it's probably been discussed, the 2018 model is MUCH more accurate color wise to the original movies as well as to the Galoob Action Fleet models from 1995-1996.

After watching this I gave up on the idea of getting an A Wing and I managed to score a Y Wing a LEGO store still had in stock. It's a fantastic model and the build was pretty fun and interesting.

I’m sorry but the new one is much better looking than the old one, the colors work together much better, I can’t tell if they also used orange or just an ugly light brown for some of the details on the old one.
The best part of having them both is displaying them both as they’re based off of two completely different Y-wings in the canon. Can’t say that about the X-wing

Human Taco I know it’s not directed towards me, but I would say an At-Te from the last episode with a few 332nd troopers, a few deathwatch and mandalorians, Ahsoka, Maul, Bo-Karan, and Rex. I know that’s probably really impractical as that’s a lot of mini figures but I think It would be really cool

I feel like a lot of your comparison has the newer one winning because of upgrades techniques and brick choices. For instance, if you were to compare a 1960 mustang to a 2020 mustang the newer one would win with better stats all day, just because thats how progress works. The tubes on the older one looks to be more rigid? And the cockpit on the new one look a little narrow to me? It looks like it should be just a little bit wider. Both great sets though, the 2004 was amazing for its time, but the landing gear and over all build quality looks to be 2018 ftw.

Ryan, i feel you should give inflation and piece count a smaller part of your opinion because older sets are built and priced for the time, not for the future.
I've had my 2018 Y-Wing sitting in the box since I got it. This convinced me to crack that baby open and finally build it.

that 2004 model really looks ahead of its time (bar the cockpit stickers), if you said it was maybe 6/7 years old it would be believable
