When I lived in LA, every single night on the news was potential for an hour or two of a wild chase. And you can see how well prepared the news crews are with the advanced graphic overlays of city streets and what not. I can't think of another part of the country that has so many beautifully filmed car chases, it's unreal.

Minor violations are also starting to carry a no pursuit policy for the same reason, why risk somebody getting hurt or worse just coz the oake has a busted tail light and outstanding fine
Yeah my dad and I were watching a chase a while back and he explained to me that the reason they don’t try crazy maneuvers and often follow at a distance is cause the more pressure on the person getting chased, the greater the chance of them being reckless and potentially hurting or killing people in a crash. It’s a situation of risk vs reward. Usually they continue the chance but with a little distance until the driver gives up or more often, the car breaks down/ runs out of gas, unless the driver is super out of control in which case they try and apprehend them as quick as possible. They let this guy go for now cause he’s driving safely and they can be pretty confident he’s not going to end up hurting someone if they give up the chase. So I’m assuming they didn’t have suspicions of a DUI or anything like that. Plus after a certain point (assuming the initial crime wasn’t something really serious) it’s just wasting the officers time and causing there to be less officers available for other emergency calls

Yeah I forget where I heard this, but I think it's very common that the police won't chase after you unless they suspect you've committed a felony. Obviously the cops can always lie about what they suspect happened but the point is, if you're getting into a chase, the police already know your license plate, so they probably already know your identity. You're probably not going to get a fake passport and move to Cambodia over a misdemeanor so they just file an arrest warrant and wait for you to eventually show up. There’s a certain operating area that police departments are able to do arrests in. County police usually have the AO of their county while State police AOs are their state. This means that if you can make it to state lines, the police chasing you have to break off their chase and scramble the State Police of the other state
This is an urban myth. Pretty much everywhere they will continue the pursuit. They'll just peel off when state #2's people can fully takeover. And almost immediately you'll get extradited to whoever has the most severe charges for you.

Watching hot pursuits in the evening news is a LA/SoCal pastime. Last year on Thanksgiving my family and I watched one where someone stole a bread truck, it was wild!
That blows my mind that Charlie has never heard of the protocol to call off a chase for either this reason or for the chase being too dangerous for the public, 99% of the time they know where you live out whatnot from your plates so it's not like you're getting away for good.
A ton of vehicles being chased are either stolen, have stolen plates, or no plates at all. Very good chance the police would have no idea who the suspect is other than a vague visual description of whoever is inside the car.

You can kind of solve the problem by watching the chase with a 30-40 second delay whilst having someone else, a friend or a worker double checking whilst watching it live, if anything bad happens then he immediately alerts you in a discord call that you are in, "he would mute himself unless that situation arises". The only problem is that you need someone you trust to actually watch carefully and be ready to pause the video at any moment, well technically you have quite the delay to do so but still.... anyways just an idea.
Man, my car got destroyed in a Police chase they pushed him off the highway he went through a fence over a lawn for about 70 yards takes out a bush and hits my car knocking it over the parking lot lip and down a hill. They bolted after they hit me and got caught shortly after. They didn't have insurance. The police will not help you, the exact words I was told when I asked them was, "Bad luck buddy.."

Watching hot pursuits in the evening news is a LA/SoCal pastime. Last year on Thanksgiving my family and I watched one where someone stole a bread truck, it was wild!
Yeah it's cool that everyone else is starting to join in on the fun. I guess the rest of the country didn't know chases happen THAT frequently here.
That blows my mind that Charlie has never heard of the protocol to call off a chase for either this reason or for the chase being too dangerous for the public, 99% of the time they know where you live out whatnot from your plates so it's not like you're getting away for good.
A ton of vehicles being chased are either stolen, have stolen plates, or no plates at all. Very good chance the police would have no idea who the suspect is other than a vague visual description of whoever is inside the car.

Of course stolen cars are an exemption and of course they need to see who's driving but it's not hard to do that when you get pulled over an ex the police look straight at you .. idk what yall are trying to argue against, notice how I didnt say 100% ... You can kind of solve the problem by watching the chase with a 30-40 second delay whilst having someone else, a friend or a worker double checking whilst watching it live, if anything bad happens then he immediately alerts you in a discord call that you are in, "he would mute himself unless that situation arises". The only problem is that you need someone you trust to actually watch carefully and be ready to pause the video at any moment, well technically you have quite the delay to do so but still.... anyways just an idea.
Or just have charlie stream on a delay himself and cut the feed whenever something happens

Man, my car got destroyed in a Police chase they pushed him off the highway he went through a fence over a lawn for about 70 yards takes out a bush and hits my car knocking it over the parking lot lip and down a hill. They bolted after they hit me and got caught shortly after. They didn't have insurance. The police will not help you, the exact words I was told when I asked them was, "Bad luck buddy.."

Wait, they don't communicate over county borders to get those guys? Here in The Netherlands, the police department even communicates with Belgium and Germany if a suspect gets close to a border and chase together if they cross the border lol.

You should have donut operator on during the next chase to let you know the police protocol for it, although policies for California PDs is shit. And they’ll usually get his tag and just show up at his house later and arrest him.

Winning the chase to forgive the crime reminds me (I know this is a bit esoteric) about getting arrested in TES Oblivion Shivering Isles DLC. No matter what you did, if you escape the dungeon (which is deadly) all crimes and bounty are forgiven, and I always thought that was so funny. You could kill 20 people and just escape a few swinging spike traps and you were home free.
