Do not place microphones flat on a table. Think about the microphone like an ear, how often do you listen to someone with your head lying on the table? Try to do it. But you got me smiling. What would you think if I would shoot an interview about image, lenses and high quality with a cheap phone?

Never ceases to amazes me how awful the sound is during talks on mastering, but aside from that it was great.
