  • A war has broken out between Israel and Palestine.
At least 4500 people have died.
Israel has vowed to remove Hamas 'off the face of the Earth'.
It all began on October 7 when Hamas operatives infiltrated Israeli towns and killed thousands.
The day was the bloodiest for Jews since the Holocaust.
The conflict between Israel and Palestine dates back centuries.
It involves geography, religion, power and people.
Priyanka Sharma brings you a brief and simple history of the Israel, Palestine conflict.

The history of Israel dates back thousands of years, with the region having been inhabited by various ancient civilizations. The Jewish people have resided in the area for over 3,000 years and consider it their ancestral homeland. Here's a brief overview of Israel's history:
    1. Ancient Israel: Around 1200 BCE, the Israelites, led by Moses, left Egypt and settled in the region known as Canaan, which included present-day Israel. The kingdom of Israel was established under King David (1010-970 BCE) and reached its height under his son, Solomon.
    2. Babylonian Captivity: In 586 BCE, the Babylonians invaded and destroyed Jerusalem, leading to the exile of many Jews to Babylon (present-day Iraq). This period is commonly known as the Babylonian Captivity.
    3. Persian and Greek Rule: After the Babylonian Empire fell, the Persian Empire took control of the region. In the 4th century BCE, Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire, and the region became part of the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire.
    4. Roman Rule: In 63 BCE, the Roman Empire seized control of the region, which became known as Judea. During this time, the second Jewish temple was constructed in Jerusalem.
    5. Jewish Revolts: In the 1st century CE, several Jewish rebellions against Roman rule occurred, including the Great Jewish Revolt (66-73 CE). The Romans crushed these uprisings and destroyed the second temple in 70 CE.
    6. Diaspora: Following the Roman conquest of Judea, many Jews were forced into exile, which has come to be known as the Jewish Diaspora. Despite their dispersion, Jewish communities maintained their religious and cultural identity throughout the world.
    7. Ottoman and British Rule: The Ottoman Empire ruled over the region from the 16th century until the early 20th century. During World War I, British forces succeeded in ousting the Ottomans and took over the area, administering it under the League of Nations Mandate.
    8. Creation of Israel: In the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust, the United Nations proposed a partition plan in 1947, dividing Palestine (then under British control) into separate Jewish and Arab states. On May 14, 1948, the state of Israel was declared, leading to a subsequent war with neighboring Arab countries.
    9. Israel-Arab Conflicts: Israel has experienced several conflicts with its Arab neighbors, including the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the Six-Day War (1967), and the Yom Kippur War (1973). These wars resulted in territorial changes, with Israel gaining control over territories like the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, and Sinai Peninsula.
    10. Peace Treaties: In recent decades, Israel has signed peace treaties with Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994), resolving conflicts and establishing diplomatic relations.
The history of Israel remains complex and contentious, involving deep religious, political, and territorial conflicts with both regional and international implications. 🇮🇳🧡🇮🇱

Although, I already knew everything she reported. It served as a clear reminder to those of us who knew the history, and simultaneous a clear explanation to those who did not know the history. It is very sad. Frankly, I see no easy solution to this situation, as there have been several injustices done to both sides over that history and by both sides against the other, and that pattern continues with the recent events.
