The new Challenger Mk3 British main battle tank can do 60mph. Tech moves pretty quick, though this upgrade was a long time coming. Armour is going to change everything about combat, which I'm definitely excited about it. Even so, I can see the Nova being a very popular and fun vehicle.
Pretty cool design, with a DEADLY flaw in armor design and shape known as a 'Shot Trap'. Pretty much the lower frontal armor on the turret wants to bounce shots right at the hull or turret ring, this is all the bad and none of the good. The frontal hull armor's rather impressive slope also seems to want to bounce shots right into the truly gigantic 'shot-trap' . Having lower frontal turret armor slope in like that is a deadly design flaw that pretty much all modern tank designers abandoned early/mid WW2.
And here is the major flaw in what your saying, 2022 we have reactive armor on tanks this game is based in the year 2950 what type of armor do you think it happens and your assuming the all of the modern weaknesses of modern tanks are represented on a tank 900+ years later
@@crislobarker3214 I'm kinda late here but I do want to point out that a "shot trap" is not a matter of materials it is a problem of geometry also no matter the time and the advancement of materials or armor you will always see similar if not more advancement in weapons made specifically to destroy/penetrate said armor

Christ that thing is bloody enormous. I'd at least half the size, I appreciate that they have a separate gunner and commander but the way it's laid out is way too spacious, the gunner has no reason to be in an entirely separate room and by putting the seats in a V formation with the driver in the front, you could get rid of a ton of wasted space and give the tank a much smaller profile. The only reason I can think of for having the gunner in a separate room is so that a penetration to the main fighting compartment isn't a full crew kill but that massive bridge area with the driver and TC looking at the hull instead of the engineering section implies that they don't actually care all that much abut maximizing individual survivability

In spite of their armour, tanks are quite vulnerable due to their small size (i.e. cw a cutter, destroyer or battleship). Hit a real tank with an armour-piercing round in the right spot and its instakill (the 88mm, designed to take down aircraft, was particularly good at dispatching tanks). Pop a sticky bomb (a satchel charge dipped in axle grease) on the ventral plate and pop goes the weasel! Drop a hand-grenade in the tracks, and the tank is immobilised. M1A2 Abrams SEP V3 operator here! The tank is actually capable of 61 mph with the uninstallation of the governor. Which is a mechanical part that limits the engines max speed! With it installed, the Abrams on a daily is capable of 47 - 49 mph. Fastest I've gone on a flat road was 48 mph! (:

The main turret range and top speed both seem a decent bit too low. My father in law operated on m1 tanks. He's told me they are considerably faster than what the "spreadsheets" that are given to the public say. Seeing how we are way further in the future here you expect weapons and vehicle capabilities to at least meet modern ability, and really they should exceed them. They need to bump that speed to at least 60 to 70mph. Add a ton of torque. And bump the range on the main cannon to like 4 to 5k. While there at it boost the hp till armor is in the game proper. Cool vehicle either way, but needs some tweaking to feel right.
move the cannon to the centre of the turret, the commander's turret to the right of the main turret (since its ammunition would interfere with the cannons autoloader), lower the top of the hull (no need for walking space in a tank). then I will consider this tank acceptable.

I wish they would of leaned more towards the Leapard looks, especially some of the more modern Leapards look pretty damn futuristic with their turrets and could of been used easily with SC.
Thoug i like the Nova in general, its design leaves a lot to be desired, specially since CR and CIG want "as realistic as possible" the main turret has a large wedge between it and the main body with a downwards angle to the main body tank, perfect for railgun shots a the neck, and from a more ballistic, "real world" that wedge would kill that tank every time by guiding projectiles and explosions back down into the main tank bod or directly into the neck
Great video, but @Morphologis when you said that you thought that the window in the tank was a monitor I was expecting an EMP test to see how the Tonk is affected, like how EMPs shut down the Talon screen. I really thought that testing this theory of the Tonk would be worth doing and including in the video. Just a little of a missed opportunity, but honestly I love your videos, keep up the great work and don't get complacent!
Came here to say this. Using the remote turret you can drive, aim 360 degrees and fire the main cannon all at once. Reminds me of the old Battlefield days. I’m kinda glad that’s an option, so the tank is at least partially viable with reduced crew, but much more powerful with a full compliment.
Great vid as always. Still can't help wondering why I should be excited about getting a tank in a spaceship game, but I could say that about alot of things. Personally I'd rather get some additional support ground vehicles or even a "daily driver".
I have completely ignored any other coverage of both the Nova and the Hercules because I don’t feel like any other come close to the quality you provide, now patiently waiting for the video on the Hercules!
i literally couldnt find this video anywere, i knew it was up because of phone notifications but i searched for ''nova tank'', then ''the nova tank'', then ''the nova tank!'', then ''the nova tank! morphologis'' and only bored gamer came up
I think its important for ground combat that the tank doesn't just "die" immediately. It should bog down before it straight up explodes and I think the presence of weak points could greatly help balance without making them too easy to kill. obviously the armor is a bigger issue at the moment because a tank like that should be resistant to pretty much all types of fire in all but a few places but I do hope we get some great battle scenarios with these in the future
That is a cool looking tank, props to the designers for not just going to boring route of making a futuristic Abrams/Leopard/Leclerc design because tank design is basically solved so it would be boring to have future tanks looking just like our modern day tanks imo
Amazing video! Although you said the driver has to stop driving the tank while operating the turret, this is incorrect. There is a button to the bottom left of the drivers seat that lets you operate the main turret while still being able to dive.
I'm impressed with how the Nova looks traversing terrain, I guess I was assuming the first iteration would handle terrain as jankily as the gravlev vehicles.
When I see that size 5 on the Nova, I think that this would be a great improved weapon for the Hercules. Open the bay doors and unleash. Like that scene in Star Wars Episode III.
I hope we get some kind of small tacked ifv's in the future. Like a futuristic Bradley with auto cannons and missiles. Not able to compete with a tank 1v1, but able to be fitted into more ships, and with the capability to take down heavy armour if used right. It needs some improvements, but I'm glad they're adding weaknesses top this thing like turret rotation. It's tempting in sci fi to make the ultimate tank. The issue there is it means tank battles will always be dull, with all tanks feeling the same. Even if they add more from other makes, they'll either also have to be good at everything or they'll just not get used. This way they can add different tanks that excel in other areas to add some variety.
I cannot wait for rovers as large and good looking as the Tonk. I hope large vehicles to explore hostile worlds from the surface will be a thing ! Also, I with the pilot controlable turret limited to your field of view would also be on the ROC-DS, would make it such a better vehicle…
In terms of functionality this tank is a mess. It's way too big a target, its nearly twice the size of an abrams any way you measure it. It's armor is sloped into the turret meaning deflected shots would hit and penetrate the underside of the turret. The turret is not only asymmetrical in its armor but is also sloped to deflect shells back into the hull. The tracks would be a pain in the ass to repair and replace is it doesn't look they are accessible. The gun is also extremely exposed, it doesnt even have a cover on the top. In terms of "Cool scifi tank" it works, but functionality wise its a mess.
Thanks for the video! I bought the Nova during it's concept sale because I love tanks. LOL Wasn't sure if it was in this patch for sure or not. Have to go check my tank out. LOL

I don't know if it's intentional but the new patch you can still drive while controlling the turret
Came here to say this. Using the remote turret you can drive, aim 360 degrees and fire the main cannon all at once. Reminds me of the old Battlefield days. I’m kinda glad that’s an option, so the tank is at least partially viable with reduced crew, but much more powerful with a full compliment.
You can also fire the missiles I thought. Was watching jackaxton stream the other day and he was firing cannon and missiles while driving.
@@Power5 Oh nice :). Didn’t get a chance to try that out, but I will.
Great vid as always. Still can't help wondering why I should be excited about getting a tank in a spaceship game, but I could say that about alot of things. Personally I'd rather get some additional support ground vehicles or even a "daily driver".
Missed the best feature about the tank. It's ability to self correct when flipped.
Nice video, I realy liked the more action themed start of the video.
The quality of this video is amazing
2:33 can we appreciate the cloud physics when firing ?
Great footage. Looking forward to the game play.
seeing cool shit like this rekindles my love for this game, even if every time I go to play it I get bugged out one way or another.
I have completely ignored any other coverage of both the Nova and the Hercules because I don’t feel like any other come close to the quality you provide, now patiently waiting for the video on the Hercules!
i literally couldnt find this video anywere, i knew it was up because of phone notifications but i searched for ''nova tank'', then ''the nova tank'', then ''the nova tank!'', then ''the nova tank! morphologis'' and only bored gamer came up
Great work Morph.. and that initial screenshot... great reference!
Now I want the ballistic rounds to give off emissive lighting as they travel across an environment absent of light.
Great design by CIG, and look at that REMOTE CONTROL OF TURRET - looking at you ROC-DS....
Great video!!
The most spacious tank I've ever seen :)
I really like how they made it a 3 person operated system, as it would probably be irl... Gives it a really nice feeling
Much as I love having a tank in game, I think I'd much prefer a smaller one. Hopefully with a coax.
I really like the long recoil action on the tank.
That is a cool looking tank, props to the designers for not just going to boring route of making a futuristic Abrams/Leopard/Leclerc design because tank design is basically solved so it would be boring to have future tanks looking just like our modern day tanks imo
I've heard War Thunder, I've pressed the like button.
On a slightly more serious level: Great showcase of the Tank and its capabilities.👍
I'd call the the Tonk a Heavy Tank instead of a MBT.
Considering how much fucking room it has, I'd wager that "Heavy IFV" would be more fitting.
amazing work, I really think you should make some kind of music video with the nova tank in combat.
The Starcitizen "Planetside 2" battle modes are gonna be great :DD
Im gonna love shredding these things with the Ares Inferno.
fantastic opening music choice!
totally agree about buying it in game(goes for all ground vehicles in my opinion) nice vid
Man, this video is so well done!
This is sweet.. I hope they add some sort of support vehicle, maybe with bunks for respawns and ammunition, etc..
Thanks for the video! I bought the Nova during it's concept sale because I love tanks. LOL Wasn't sure if it was in this patch for sure or not. Have to go check my tank out. LOL
