About time, an unbiased Geordie opinion about their rival neighbours. If these two cities actually supported each as a joint venture as ‘ Tyne and Wear’ who knows how much money could come into the area .

hi mate, just randomly got recommended your video. I was born down south and had a rough childhood drugs etc. moved to hull 2 years ago and 2.5 years sober. Love life now and love it here, i've been to sunderland 4 times since moving here and can't get enough of it. Some of the best scran up north, thinking of moving there in the future but don't know if it will be wise as love it here.

I mean seriously, my Mackem friends, I wouldn't take it to heart. What does the Telegraph know about anywhere other than the London suburbs and the Home Counties?
Never been to Sunderland myself but I once had a housemate from there and she was nice. So that's positive! I'm a northerner myself but when I first met her I couldn't understand a word she said. I thought she was speaking German...

A lot of the problems started with bad architecture the civic centre was a mistake it looked more like a prison block. The central shopping area was just rebuilding slums. We lost a lot of good buildings like the town hall, the grand hotel, the north end of the railway station and lots of buildings with caricature.

For a post industrial city and all the problems associated with that Sunderland is ok and improving dramatically.
It’ll take time though especially with the retail like everywhere else struggling.

the daily telegraph reporters have probably never visited Sunderland and what about the stadium of light ! there is building going on around that, Mowbray park is wonderful. we had at one time the longest steel bridge, biggest shipyards, oldest coal mine in the world. and 'cannonball rock' found behind blacks cafe corner is unique.

Slagging Sunderland off you can see why if you live in the north east ..and know the rough spots and seek them out ignoring the good spots .. there are many good parts to Sunderland..If there's deprevation and rough areas and not much to do its down to the Southern powers that be ignoring the region over the years ..no investment or govt funded projects of note ..This region has been short changed and left to rot for many many years..The people are fine people and warm if they take you into their community..Im from Newcastle and have went out with many a Sunderland Lass. and was always well loved by many families on Wearside. Jimmy Montgomery my Sporting hero and don't forget that great Sunderland side from 1973.. the greatest cup final ever, Im a Newcastle Fan but grew up with many of those players from back then..I was never out of the Gym at the Northumbria centre and used to have egg and chips at Ritchie Pits house ..Maisonette in Washington.

The thing people don’t realise is, Newcastle city centre has many listed buildings whereas Sunderland had the options to demolish buildings and restore. It’s on track to be something Newcastle couldn’t be and will soon be known as the UK’s first and only Smart Green city. A 5G network, The brand new Housing Innovation Construction Skills Academy and Geothermal Energy Centre, Culture House and Eye Hospital are all going to be catalysts for a specific niche to Sunderland and will draw people from all over. And that’s without the economics benefits of Crownworks. Watch this space Sunderland will be the place to be.
