@@ram89572 Interesting. I’m 6’2” and can sit comfortably behind where I keep my seat. I wouldn’t want to ride across the country in that position, but it’s fine for most drives. The Mav fits our family of 3 quite well. But I get it, I wish the rear bench was removable instead of just having a small storage space underneath.
@@cliftongardner4367 I'm only 6' but I'm pretty big all over. Fat for sure. But also my frame is just generally quite large (which I suppose is needed to support the fat). According to some of the reported specs it has as much room as my Prius V does. I'm good leg room wise and head room wise when driving it but side to side I feel a bit cramped. But unless the vehicle has a lot of second row room I can never sit comfortably behind myself. I always drive with the seat all the way back.
This is so cool seeing my truck on here FINALLY! I have the 2009 and the backseat cubby was turned into a spot for a Bose sub. Another note is that the bed cover is NOT water resistant. Any time it rains the interior of the bed gets soaked. 10/10 truck I will drive mine until the wheels fall off
Had a base model 2008 as my moms hand-me-down vehicle. As someone whos only driven low sports cars, you learn to appreciate the simple stuff like this. Still miss that vehicle!
My grandfather has an 05’. He loves it. It’s exactly what he was looking for. Fairly low miles for the age I think. I’ve always like this generation that Doug’s in though, looked more modern.
My family had a 2003 Sport-Trac that we inherited after my grandmother had passed. We put some serious mileage on that rig and did quite a lot of towing. Even did a road trip to Colorado with all 5 of us crammed in! It was a very memorable truck for us. My brother eventually inherited it, but sold it when the transmission began to go out. It served us very well over the years. I do agree that the interior was mostly cheap plastic, but it was just useable. It wasn't trying to make a statement on form, it just functioned.
Seen one drive by yesterday and my mom said it was neat. I said how Ive always wanted one. First vehcicle was a 2.3 ranger 2wd. Then had a few 4.0 explorers and ranger. Had a 1998 limited explorer with a 5.0, i loved it, so many options for its day. No bluetooth, but a telephone in the console. Miss that rig.
This type of demand is still out there! It shows in how well the Maverick is selling, especially now that trucks have gotten so incredibly large. I always loved these and the same era of Ranger and always said if they made something like it again I would get one, and I pre-ordered a Maverick the same day it was announced
I daily drive a 2nd gen Sort Trac, an 07 V8 Limited 4x4. Has 207k miles, dead reliable. Some issues but it's an old Ford. Cheap to fix. Super useful for a daily driver truck, terrible fuel economy. I want to put a procharger on it one day. Mustang GT motor with an iron block! Great to see on your channel doug.
I own a 07 Sport Trac Limited, 4.6 and I love this truck. I really wanted an Adrenalin but it was away my budget. Mine has a factory 8" subwoofer behind the back seat from the driver side.
Hell yeah, finally the Sport Trac video!! What an iconic car, I loved this thing (still do)!!! Also became a bit known again thanks to the Ozark TV series!! I’ve seen a couple of these imported over here to the Netherlands!
I'm surprised Doug didn't mention that the center gauge cluster screen turns red when the vehicle detects something that needs your attention, in addition to making a loud 'BEEP'. That EVEN happens when you run low on fuel, OR open the doors while the truck is running. I remember my aunt's old '06 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition doing that (as well as an '06 Explorer XLT rental my parents had back in the day) and thinking it was cool how, even though it wasn't a "Color Display", it could STILL change colors from green to red. P.S.... yay for a Sunday Doug Video for the second Sunday in a row!!! :)
That's a good idea for important stuff like low oil pressure and whatnot. I used to think those pixelated lcd screens were awesome when they were new 😂
I’ve been waiting for EVER for the sport trac to be covered I have 180k miles on my 2008 sport trac V6 Limited edition, and mine is fully loaded with Bluetooth, heated seats, auto 4x4, high and low 4x4, moon roof and rear window like this truck in video, and it’s just amazing. These trucks are slept on and are fantastic for modern use!!!!! I’m a major sport trac junkie haha the maverick is basically a follow up to the sport trac. I miss these things so much :(
My wife loved her white 2009, it was the third sport trac she had. A matching cap made it the perfect retriever hauler for her. Finally pried it out her hands when the Bronco Sport Badlands was introduced. Her only complaints, no back up camera, the headlights were weak and the nav screen was tiny. It was a very reliable car and the auto AWD worked very well. Sold the STA in April 2022 for precisely 50% of what we paid for it in July 2009.
My dad had a gold sport trac, we got in wreck with it. It was totaled, I loved that little truck as a kid. I dont know how safe it was in terms of ratings but it protected my family, so another reason to love it
I have one of the last Adrenalins 2010 in Torch Red, which think all Adrenalins should be. Mine has a couple extra options that add to the enjoyment of owning it. Since these are so rare, I get attention everywhere we go, it is a stand out classic. I just turned 57,000 miles, never seen snow or salt, adult driven, no smoke and pristine inside and out. To bad I can't attach a picture, it is a real eye catcher. Also, when I found mine back in 2014, I couldn't understand why so many Sport Tracs had high mileage, let me tell you these Sport Tracs are solid/quiet/fun/extremely comfortable to drive. For the specs of my Adrenalin, it has all wheel drive, independent 4 wheel suspension with power disc brakes all around. The finishing touch is the Magna Flow exhaust. That's my story and I'm holding to it. :)
Doug: "I fit behind myself" in the back seat... always a pleasure to watch you at work, Sir! And for my two-cents worth: that dashboard is really sweet compared to some of the other wretched, "toon-town" designs from the time. This was a big improvement!
The sport trac was the only one out of the Avalanche, Subaru Baja, Ridgeline that had a separate box or bed. The others mentioned where one body with sheet metal no separate beds/box.
I had a red 2009 Adrenalin for about 5 years. Probably one of my favorite vehicles I've ever owned aside from my 2003 Cobra Terminator SVT 10th Anniversary. Only thing I have to add is that there was a 12V outlet, a power point socket and 3 storage bins in the bed. It also had a very nice factory bedliner. You could also go into the cluster with the button he showed and choose 4WD high, 4WD Low, 2WD, etc. There was no stand alone drive mode button and most people had no idea you could change to full time 4WD Hi/Lo.
I was obsessed with the sportrac when it first came out. I was too young to ever own one but since I’ve owned a Ridgeline and now a Gladiator, too me that’s the most similar. I love it!
I've been waiting for this one! I had a 2010 Sport Trac (Electric Blue in color) from 2010 to 2024. 262,000 miles of commuting, family fun, and utility! (With some serious quirks!)
@shaunward4895 I like how with the Maverick, you get the comfort and driveablity of a crossover and the coolness and road presence of a truck at the same time 👍
The first gen Sport Trac (starting '01) was if anything a harbinger of the housification. Real trucks have single cabs so they can have longer beds; this move towards longer cabs (overtaking single cabs in popularity in the F150 generation starting 2004) is the most important part of them becoming image vehicles.
The midsized truck you got when you wanted the Ranger but with four doors (you couldn't get the 4 door Ranger in the US and Canada until 2019). BTW, the Tundra also kinda fits into this "SUV based truck" category, it has always been based on the Sequioa (it still is). It didn't get a crew cab until 2004, though.
@chezzyperson3339 the Explorer and Avalanche were also body on frame. Only the Honda Ridgeline and Subaru Baja were unibody at the time. BTW, all the trucks you mentioned (maybe except the RAM) had SUVs that they were related to (shared engines, transmissions, exterior and interior styling etc.).
What I find interesting is that, in some markets, this trend resulted in SUVs based on trucks - the HiLux-based Fortuner, the Triton/Strada-based Montero Sport, and even Ford got into the act with the Ranger-based Everest.
My dad had one that he bought new in 2003. That thing refused to die. Over the 18 years it was in our family the only mechanical issue we had was replacing the water pump. Ran to 300k miles before we got rid of it, still running and driving.
I love these Sport Trac Adrenalins. I own 2 2010's. Last September I believe I found the lowest mileage 2010 Blue Flame Sport Trac Adrenalin left on earth! It had only 9,600 miles on it when I got it. It really belongs in a museum, but I love driving it.😊
My dad had one of the original Sport Tracs, I can't ever remember it being a problem. Had a lot of memories as a kid riding around with my dad in that truck.
Doug is reviewing my truck! I have a 08 STA in Red. I love mine, fits easily in my garage, I can haul the kids in it, and I can actually climb into the bed with out needing a built in step stool.😅
I'm so glad Doug pointed out the quality feel of the doors on this lol... I worked at a Ford dealership for a year right out of high school in 2006-2007 when the new gen Explorer came out and I always liked how big and beefy the door handles were and how solid the doors felt opening and closing them. And this was during the time when VW was advertising their dumb "German door thud" thing and these felt way way better 😆
I worked at a ford dealership when these first came out. I loved them and remembered wanting one. I got excited when I was asked to do a dealer trade with another dealership across town. It had rained a little that day and the roads were slick. I was on the freeway, and I remember fishtailing on an overpass. it was the most terrifying experience of my young driving life. I remember being afraid of it after that as I know I was driving carefully. To this day, all I can think about when I see these is that back-end swinging away from me on a giant spaghetti bowl in Houston traffic in the rain.
my uncle bought one of these brand new in 08 and he went and i remember him and my dad installing a kenne bell supercharger on it, it was a blast to ride around in and he really enjoyed the truck
My best friends dad was a head mechanic at a local Harley Davidson in neshaminy bucks county. He used to get a new sport track every 3 years. That thing was a beast. We would take it up to Jim Thorpe to go hunting, hauling firewood, hauling Harley’s. It did it all with no issues EVER. I always say in the back and I was supper comfortable as a teen. My dad has a 2008 Sport Trac, it's a very quirky truck. The V6 I think is pretty peppy. One thing you forgot to mention is the Sport Trac has a rubber floor. A company had one in their fleet too and my dad's truck has all of the same problems as that one, AC blower has weak air, check engine light on, and perpetual tire sensor fault light on, but for the most part still runs and drives ok.
My brother in law had a 1st-gen sport trac for the longest time. He got rid of it for a Jeep Compass about 5-6 years ago, because they had deals too good to pass up back then. Recently, he traded it in on a Ranger 4-door, because, as he put it, it's just his beloved sport trac with a different name.
My friend in high school had this truck with the V8, his dad “tuned it” and put bigger wheels and suspension on it and we definitely put them to the test. A few road trips, miles off road, donuts, mailboxes, garbage cans, fireworks from the bed and quite a few good times.

According to some of the reported specs it has as much room as my Prius V does. I'm good leg room wise and head room wise when driving it but side to side I feel a bit cramped. But unless the vehicle has a lot of second row room I can never sit comfortably behind myself. I always drive with the seat all the way back.
I'm amazed at how good this truck was maintained; it hardly shows signs of ageing
That's what happens when one takes good care of his machine. 😎👍👍
@@Flootforareason I know what you mean, it was well kept. Clearly babied much of its life, definitely garage kept.
It wasn't trying to make a statement on form, it just functioned.
how many miles was it at when the transmission went out?
Bought my teen an ‘01 during the pandemic for very cheap. 208k on the Cologne engine. Still looks and runs great, she loves that thing.
Such a dose of nostalgia, thank you Doug
Just like a week ago I remembered this pickup and start searching and watching videos of it, non of them
I cosidered good, and now Doug uploads this!
Hell yeah, finally the Sport Trac video!!
What an iconic car, I loved this thing (still do)!!!
Also became a bit known again thanks to the Ozark TV series!!
I’ve seen a couple of these imported over here to the Netherlands!
I always liked how these looked. Thanks for reviewing this one, Doug!
I used to think those pixelated lcd screens were awesome when they were new 😂
I’ve been waiting for EVER for the sport trac to be covered
I have 180k miles on my 2008 sport trac V6 Limited edition, and mine is fully loaded with Bluetooth, heated seats, auto 4x4, high and low 4x4, moon roof and rear window like this truck in video, and it’s just amazing. These trucks are slept on and are fantastic for modern use!!!!! I’m a major sport trac junkie haha the maverick is basically a follow up to the sport trac. I miss these things so much :(
Heck yeah! My Dad owns a Adrenalin in red with the 4.6 and it is a very nice truck
Bluetooth connectivity for that sweet Iphone one you just picked up😂. Love this truck just putting you back in 2008
Once we reach a certain point in our 30's kneeling down next to the car starts to hurt. I feel for ya Doug.
My dad had a gold sport trac, we got in wreck with it. It was totaled, I loved that little truck as a kid.
I dont know how safe it was in terms of ratings but it protected my family, so another reason to love it
I remember one of my school teachers had a sport trac in the bright copper color and even though I'm not into trucks I always loved seeing it.
Cool story bro
You still see so many of these driving around in Canada.
That's what I was thinking these things are all over Alberta
Yeah I'm dreaming of one.
I remember Mike Holmes gifted his kid one on the show.
@@TheTyisawesome I'm from Calgary, and I saw 2nd gen adrenaline model today, and two first gen models. They are sick. I've always liked them
All v6 i wanted a v8 but was told there wasn't any to get an f150 instead for less money and more truck I bought a Toyota Celica lol😅
Doug: "I fit behind myself" in the back seat... always a pleasure to watch you at work, Sir! And for my two-cents worth: that dashboard is really sweet compared to some of the other wretched, "toon-town" designs from the time. This was a big improvement!
Gotta love the Sport Trac
I loved mine!
@@randellmainer I always remember for it being in the Ford Racing series
I had an 02 and an 07. Great trucks
The sport trac was the only one out of the Avalanche, Subaru Baja, Ridgeline that had a separate box or bed. The others mentioned where one body with sheet metal no separate beds/box.
The crew cab Chevy S10: "AM I A JOKE TO YOU??"
Yep. O ya know, the actual US OG, '99 Frontier Crew cab, that also had the aluminum flip tube bed extender....
S-10, Frontier, and Tacoma all had crew cabs first but this was a lot bigger.
Yes.
There’s so many of these Adrenalines around here❤ I love them all. They seem more common than the regular Sport Trac
The rivian? I would say the ford maverick is spiritual successor
Right I laughed at that but definitely the Maverick
The maverick is essentially a ford escape with a truck body
@@MerchantMarineGuyand the Sport Trac was an Explorer with a truck body. They’re both Ford SUV -> Ford Truck. What’s your point?
You're definitely right
@@HEMi1995yes, that is my point.
I've been waiting for this generation of the explorer for SO LONG. Although I had expected the SUV, not the truck. It works though
I had a friend in high school that had a 1st gen Sport Trac and I’ve always loved it! I loved the style and the looks!

Loved these kind of trucks
I always loved the look of this truck, I saw one a few weeks ago, it still looks great after all these years
Back when trucks were trucks and not houses on wheels
More practical than the cyber truck. Good idea ford
This would be a compact truck by today's standards. I'm not even kidding!
@This_is_me_okay when I was in the parking lot the other day someone asked me how I got my maverick to sound so good 🤣
@shaunward4895 I like how with the Maverick, you get the comfort and driveablity of a crossover and the coolness and road presence of a truck at the same time 👍
The first gen Sport Trac (starting '01) was if anything a harbinger of the housification. Real trucks have single cabs so they can have longer beds; this move towards longer cabs (overtaking single cabs in popularity in the F150 generation starting 2004) is the most important part of them becoming image vehicles.
i’m in love with this Explorer
The midsized truck you got when you wanted the Ranger but with four doors (you couldn't get the 4 door Ranger in the US and Canada until 2019). BTW, the Tundra also kinda fits into this "SUV based truck" category, it has always been based on the Sequioa (it still is). It didn't get a crew cab until 2004, though.
Tundra is BOF like F150, Silverado, Sierra, Ram, and Titan so it doesn’t count
@chezzyperson3339 the Explorer and Avalanche were also body on frame. Only the Honda Ridgeline and Subaru Baja were unibody at the time. BTW, all the trucks you mentioned (maybe except the RAM) had SUVs that they were related to (shared engines, transmissions, exterior and interior styling etc.).
tundra came out before the sequoia
What I find interesting is that, in some markets, this trend resulted in SUVs based on trucks - the HiLux-based Fortuner, the Triton/Strada-based Montero Sport, and even Ford got into the act with the Ranger-based Everest.
Please bring back the outdoor reviews
Why? You wanna see him sweat? 😂😂
My dad had one that he bought new in 2003. That thing refused to die. Over the 18 years it was in our family the only mechanical issue we had was replacing the water pump. Ran to 300k miles before we got rid of it, still running and driving.
Doug is the type of guy to open up a library filled with owner manuals of different cars
I love these Sport Trac Adrenalins. I own 2 2010's. Last September I believe I found the lowest mileage 2010 Blue Flame Sport Trac Adrenalin left on earth! It had only 9,600 miles on it when I got it. It really belongs in a museum, but I love driving it.😊
doug is the type of guy to say "sun roof" when he is hitting a button clearly labeled "moon roof".
Maybe he only calls it a "moon roof" at night. 🤣🤣
My dad had one of the original Sport Tracs, I can't ever remember it being a problem. Had a lot of memories as a kid riding around with my dad in that truck.
We still have these everywhere in Venezuela
They were built in Valencia.
Doug is reviewing my truck! I have a 08 STA in Red.
I love mine, fits easily in my garage, I can haul the kids in it, and I can actually climb into the bed with out needing a built in step stool.😅
Doug discussing the fad of trucks.
Subaru Baja: Have you forgotten about my existence when I’m the quirky and cooler one?
I'm so glad Doug pointed out the quality feel of the doors on this lol... I worked at a Ford dealership for a year right out of high school in 2006-2007 when the new gen Explorer came out and I always liked how big and beefy the door handles were and how solid the doors felt opening and closing them. And this was during the time when VW was advertising their dumb "German door thud" thing and these felt way way better 😆
I had an '01 Sport Trac. I bought the extended bumper to bumper 75000 mile warranty. At 76000 miles my transmission went out. Last Ford I ever bought.
I've had three fords where the tranny went over 200k.Think you got a lemon, usually the engine goes out before the tranny
Wow, how stupid that it died right after…
The Avalanche is probably the most innovative truck ever designed. The mid gate option is incredible.
This is still a beautifully styled truck. The design is aging very well compared to modern design.
I'm honestly very happy that Doug is uploading Sunday reviews once again! Thanks man!
Doug sounds like the type of guy to give his own farts a doug score.
The sport trac, the OG of 4dr pickups.
Love the Ford keypad on the doors. I remember that feature all the way back in the '80s Taurus.
IT'S EVEN A ADRENALIN. Ohh! Also, this is closest to reviewing a vehicle that I have. (Expect mine is a first gen)
I had both gens. Wish I had gotten a second gen Adrenalin. But onto a Maverick now
my uncle bought one of these brand new in 08 and he went and i remember him and my dad installing a kenne bell supercharger on it, it was a blast to ride around in and he really enjoyed the truck

Wow!!!! a good looking Ranger???
Don’t you dare
This one was not based on the ranger
My friend in high school had this truck with the V8, his dad “tuned it” and put bigger wheels and suspension on it and we definitely put them to the test. A few road trips, miles off road, donuts, mailboxes, garbage cans, fireworks from the bed and quite a few good times.
