Thank you for this interview, Dr Roberts. I highly recommend you do an episode with Pam Popper from Wellness Forum Health in Cleveland, OH, if you really want to get into failing public health policy, distrust in our medical system, etc., and what she's doing about it.

Excellent commentary on our broken healthcare system. Thank you Dr. Makary and Kevin Roberts!

Great talk! As a retired hospital nurse and the daughter of a Family Practice doctor, I have great hope medical care improves.

A very informative discussion. One question: Dr. Makary was saying that no one is looking at the underlying causes of diseases. He did not say why they don't ask. Also, no discussion of the capture of the institutions by Big Pharma. Thanks for the video.

My brother is a pediatrician in the Army. The idea of having a calm exchange of opinions doesn't exist in his world. He is lord high doctor, older brother, Dad, officer, etc. And we are all mere serfs in his kingdom.

I am a retired nurse, I loved nursing so much, I retired at 79 years or age, but in my nursing career I prevented several times unnecessary surgeries on patients, backed by doctors that knew how to tell the truth, and not that of the establishment. Now in my retirement, I have promoted on myself and family the healthy eating, and advised others to see the truth on the medical field, as it continues on promoting big pharma, and not addressing the real issues that sickens the population I live around. I am very glad for Dr. Makary's book on telling the truth as he explained. I hope in God for the reform of the medical field for the good of the people, and not just for the money making scheme.

I somewhat feel there is a lack of discussion on the corporate capture of healthcare via lobbyists. I’d be interested to see their commentary on Senator Vance’s involvement with Purdue, the company responsible for the opioid epidemic.

Why bring garbage politics into this discussion?

@@SeanLottinville Respectfully, medicine is unfortunately a part of political coverage, and I wanted to hear Dr. Roberts and his guests’ opinions. I seems like the conversationalists he brings on have thought about things.

Regarding Dr. Sarrel's work on HRT, and how estradiol seems to help brain neurons in octopuses, is there anything equivalent in the TRT area?
Would have liked to have heard Mark's thoughts on the Haven consortium. Why did the most prominent companies / executives in the world ( Amazon/ JP Morgan/ Berkshire Hathaway ) conclude they couldn't fix the healthcare-system? Perhaps a new "think"-tank for healthcare is needed.. Marty Makary, Mark Cuban, Elon Musk, Robert Pearl , Peter Attia, Bill Frist, Katherine Eban, Robert Whitaker, Patrick Soon-Shiong!
And now that Walmart Health is closing, what are the alternatives ? GoodRx, Mark Cuban's Cost-Plus? (The Direct Primary Care model seems kind of expensive, for ex. Peter Attia $150k/year , Chris Kresser, Dr. Josh Umbehr's atlas md)
Regarding how 50% of GDP goes toward healthcare.. aside from transparent pricing / predatory billing, and kickbacks for the middle-men, what else could be done to fix health-care? How do you fix the Hospital monopolies (fueled by the Affordable Care Act / Obamacare)? I understand single-payer looks good in the short term, but in all the countries it's been used, leads to worse outcomes... or how the the talking point that medicare can negotiate prices, is saving $6B, yet is only .1% of the 4.7T that goes to healthcare.
Also, the points made by Dr. Marty Makary sound similar to those of RFK Jr. Are there areas where Dr. Marty definitely DISAGREES with him on? Vivek Ramaswamy also suggests that government agencies start with the good intentions, but end up growing beyond that scope once their original mission is complete.
I understand the food pyramid over-emphasized Dairy and Carbs, and didn't distinguish between protein types (fish, meat, beans).. but what are Dr. Marty's thoughts on the USDA's fat/oil and cholesterol guidelines. Would have liked to have heard what specifically might be increasing Pancreatic cancers (2x in 20 years)?
Would love to see Dr. Marty have a friendly Covid talk on Making Sense with Sam Harris. Sam suggests that the time to question authority is not during the crisis itself, and that public needs to follow the experts / established institutions for vaccine, masks, school closures, origin story, etc. How does Dr. Marty reconcile this?
Regarding how science is funded/studied, I like how V.S. Ramachandran says it.. that in science you are forced to choose between very precise answers to trivial, boring questions.. OR imprecise, vague answers to big exciting questions.. but every once in a while, you hit the jackpot with a precise answer to a big question (ex. DNA).
BTW, I like the EMTALA idea of signing 'Didn't Read' when forced to sign under a medical emergency.
