Great memories i used to stay up late on weekend nights and record all these great mixes. I was 8 years old and used try to stay up because my brothers friends would give me blank tapes to record music for them. I miss those days this was true hip hop these dj.s today cant hold a candle stick to the djs back then. Great Great Great memories.
If anyone gets to read this comment, which I know it'll be WAY down on the list, just wanted to say that it was music like this that kept us teenagers sane in the violent days of the South Bronx...when all looked lost and hopeless, there was this music...the music that filled our D-Cell loaded boomboxes on the benches of the asphalt parks of the Bronx. God was merciful, and I believe it was the talent he allowed us to witness in our young lives that helped us. Kudos to the Latin Rascals, DJ Animal, and all the other talents of that time.
I'm from Central California, a city named Fresno and my cousins from the Bronx and some other people from NY were bringing these tapes from NY. I'm sure it was spreading all over the world. It's almost a lost art.
Man the Latin Rascals were icons of their time. As a former DJ they did nothing bit bring huge admiration. We all tried to copy the style that they created, which at the time was unheard of. Loop edits spectacular!! Bad ass mixes. I really wish someone could find the original mix recordings and offer them in a clean digital format.
R.I.P Kiss FM.You will be sorely miss for all your memories as well as your great mastermix shows such as this, long live Kiss FM,thanks for the memories.
Albert Cabrera and Tony Moran the incredible Latin Rascals they first came in the scene in early eighties on the original 92.3 KTU then they moved to 98,7 KISS FM (RIP) where once in a while they would produce the illest mixes around.New York City No one had heard anything like these mastermixes these 2 brothers would play for us on the weekends. T!o this day I haven't heard anyone come close to these 2 legends. And just think they produced these mixes without that much technology. Pure Talent!
I hear you. I don't even waste my time listening to New york radio anymore, and get this. I use to be a Kiss fm mastermixer in the late 1990's & early 00's. I was on the air Saturday night from 9pm to 12pm MIdnight with the Duke Johnny Allen. The best days of radio was from 1979 to 1984 when Frankie Crocker was on WBLS & Shep Pettibone & Latin Rascals on Kiss fm.
Never forget those days cruising around. In cadillacs, going to Brookdale park go to the fun house in New York, listening to 987 Paco. And everyone else those were great days
I love this jam, I am listening to it again & cooking at the same time, well in between dancing in the kitchen...love my classics from back then...I need my dancing partner.
a huge debt of gratitude is owed to the latin rascals. They forever changed how music is mixed and edited.latin rascals are the best ever, with double dee and steinski second.
Latin Rascals inspired me to get into tape editing after I heard that they did most of their shows that way. I applied the same technique via turntables on the song "Do it To The Crowd" that I did with Twin Hype. Damn this took me back yo!! Thx for postin.
thx ... and yes, also when I live in Berlin and not NewYork and when I heard the mixes few weeks and months later as you as they aired here on the local radiostation RIAS1.
