98.7 Kiss-FM-the real one from 1981 to 1994-was my musical education. 30 years later, this is still light years ahead of its time and sounds as fresh as ever! Shep Pettibone was a prophet with his razor blade and his reel-to-reel tape! Peace.
This is the kinda shit Biggie was talkin' about in "Juicy" when he said "Let my tape rock, 'til my pop"...As kids coming up in the NJ/NY area in the 80's, these are the kinds of songs we LIVED for on Friday/Saturday nights. 98.7 Kiss, 107.5 WBLS, 92 KTU-Where ALL the new shit was dropped! We made Memorex MILLIONS!!! We were buying blank tapes out the ASS, and recorded all night long. The emergence of REAL hip hop, and because it was so new, I think so many of us took it for granted at the time
Sadly, the frequency 98.7 in New York was sold to Disney in 2012 and it became the local ESPN affiliate. Kiss merged with WBLS at the end of April that year. I still wish that it became 107.5 Kiss-FM WBLS. Peace.
MuzikJunkyAES Thanks for your response. I would've felt better if Snot 97 and Powerless 105 would've merged so that way NYC would've ended up with one less rap crap radio station.
This absolutely incredible!! this song popped into my head and I wondered In the Special Remix my KISS FM's Fantastic DJs was on TH-cam. The is absolutely priceless!! Thanks For The Incredible memories!! Latin Rascals, Shep Pettibone, Chuck Chillout are Supreme! Much Love and Respect to all the DJ's Who Tore it up and turned It Out!!
this mastermix is very very good. too bad no one has the 2 hr dance parties he used to mix every fri, sat on 98.7 kiss. those were always good. as good as this mix is..double dee and steinski's version still is the best.
Yo I feel you all on the old school and always will cause old-school will always be the best way batter than the bullshirt that's out now. and that's word to my family and friends that made God bless their souls that they rest in peace and I say word up doc. Apil 1_2020.

I REMEMBER KISS CAUSE IT WAS BORN AROUND THE SAME TIME ANOTHER GIANT RADIO STATION WAS TAKEN FROM US 92.7 KTU. NOW ALL THAT'S LEFT IS THE MEMORIES YALL..WE ONLY HAVE WBLS 107.5 LEFT IT'S A DISGRACE THE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD DOESN'T HAVE ANY GOOD RADIO STATIONS. JUST TO THINK ABOUT IT THEY PUT A SPORTS STATION IN ITS PLACE. I HOPE SOMEONE DECIDES TO BRING IT BACK

Actually KTU has been resurrected on the 103.5 frequency since 1996. We all know that sports station that took the 98.7 frequency isn't going to last long.
Gman718 YOU MADE MY NIGHT. I grew up in Jersey City and loved KTU, WBLS, AND KISS. But WBLS and 92 KTU were the originals. I loved Saturday nights with 107.5 WBLS MIX NIGHTS. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND SEMPER FI, CAPTAIN T, U.S.M.C.

I always thought it was 'CHEF' Pettibone.... I remember the early 80's was the time! Time to be a teen, and what a time for music!

My memories of growing up in New Jersey to a T!!!
It's been 31 years since I heard this. I really do wish that Kiss FM would return to the radio airwaves like CBS-FM did.
