Dad has a 53 same model. Great running tractors. If you take care of them they last forever, no doubt in another 60 years someone will be posting videos of these machines when we are all gone.

There are heaps of brand new parts for these, Queensland tractor supplies in Australia. The Bloke Lance who owns it is a Legend, what he doesnt know about these aint worth knowing. He does great repair vids on youtube.

The reason for the starter on the gear selector is a safety feature. The tractor can not be started in gear. Harry Ferguson was way ahead of his time.

tractor can be started in gear with the crank start
on the front cinda safe wen u start it in gear and the tractor driver over u =p

If you keep cranking when the tractor starts moving forward you get what you deserve. It's very hard to turn it over by hand when in gear.
I love my 1949=/- TO-20 Ferguson. It keeps going when nothing else would start!

In England these tractors get driven on the road some so people put a tail light on them or two some times but here a lot of farmers make the rear light clear to see how their plow is doing when plowing at night or to see how to hook things up at night.
Nice tractor. In Coventry England the made over 500,000 tractors and called them T E for Tractor England and the To were for Tractor Overseas...Made in Detroit .All T E ,s and To,s start like yours. Glad to see you care about something some one left you in a will ....they would be proud.

Nice, my 1951 Ted20 which I found in a barn here in North Wales also starts on the gear stick, it hadn't been run in over 20 years, now running and 60% restored so far

I inherited a 54 Harry from my Dad. I love it and love driving it around. It still loves to work hard.

I have that exact tractor. 1954 gray. Never painted. Most of the paint is still there and I converted mine to 12V and put an oil filter adapter on it to make changing filters cleaner and quicker. I am the third owner and I even got the original paperwork and manuals with it. I will likely keep it til I die since it does everything I have ever asked of it. This tractor has never failed me and it has paid for itself many times over since I bought it 7 years ago. They are tough, very well made machines and I have friends with Fords that like it even better than theirs. The PTO is a hassle but you learn to live with it. An overrun clutch is a very useful item to install if you do use it much. You have a good machine there and it will serve you well for many years. The Continental is a gem of a motor too. I'm in the north country and it will crank right up on even below zero days.

Hi. I know it’s been a while since you did the TO-30 video but I’d like to say thanks for doing it. I’m in Australia and have a 1955 English built TEA-20. I notice there are some differences to yours, the engine in particular. One thing that is common is the gear lever start. All the TEA’s that I’ve seen start that way. I hope you still have your Fergie and are still enjoying it. The are an iconic little tractor. Best wishes. Colin

Great Video..I just purchased T 30 Ferguson...1953...Very good Tractor...Runs and handles well..P.T.O. 540 and 3 Pt. Work well. Some issues with fuel bowl leak, which will be taken care of and perhaps rebuild or replace old...carburetor..Will not stay at idle speed..and need new oil pressure gauge...operating at 40...45...but glass is missing.need needle protected..new gauges are .$ 19.95.. Carb kits $47.00.Rubber like new...Good old Ferguson..for small jobs around the Ranch..
The Safety feature ,in starting the Tractor ,was a great idea, for the time...Some earlier models would start in gear...not good......Harry Ferguson..was a brilliant man...With the
    3 Point.he invented..changed the course of Farming....Ford got Greedy..To Bad..Ford Ferguson......or should I say Ferguson Ford....could have made history...and to a certain extent...they did.

Lots of lovely valve chatter. You can adjust them to 70 thou cold, then 40 thou hot. Should eliminate a lot of that.

Eric do you happen to know what the block below your draft quadrant is for?? looks like yours doesnt have a pressure line hooked up, mine taps to the port on the lift cover. yours is the only other one ive seen and i think that knowledge died with the old timers

You’re do great with that old fergie, I just replaced the 6 volt starter out with the new 12 volt to match everything to 12 volt as the previous owner totally burned up the 6 volt starter. Thanks for the carb tips because I would have had to consult the tech manual (original) to find tuning specs. Mine is a 54 T20, just fired it up after sitting for years because I didn’t have time to work on it. Good job brother. Do you know why the starter is set up like that? The engineer ran himself over by previously starting a tractor when he started it in gear while not in the seat. Ingenious thought right!?

people should put roll cages on those tractors.if you fall out backwards the tractor can run the bushhog right over a person. i met a guy with a similar tractor and he told me a lady lost her grandson that way.
