11:20pm 6/5/2024. First time I’ve seen your site. It’s great, informative and I wish you lived in LA so you could work on my BMW. So thorough, I appreciate it.
Hey there. Thanks for subscribing and glad the video was useful 🙂 It should have an NGK MAR8B-JDS as a primary spark plug and an NGK LMAR8D-J as a secondary spark plug for each cylinder.
Hey there. Thanks for your comment!🙂 Currently without a garage until I sort something out, but might get to do the gearbox and FD one day 🙂 There’s a video I’ve done on an R1150GS which is quite similar if that helps 🙂
Hey Philippe. Glad to hear you liked the video. Yes, I’m based in the uk, but I’ve just moved house and currently without a garage hence why I couldn’t make any videos in a while 🙂
Perfectly executed service, I am just about to purchase a 2012 model with 28000 miles on the clock, has been regularly serviced, any pointers for me when I go to check it out and test ride? Cheers
Hey there. Thank you for your comment and apologies for the late reply. Make sure it was properly serviced and not just an engine oil change every now and again. It’s surprising how many people think that’s all there is to it and claim it’s been fully serviced. Apart from that, they are pretty good bikes. Not much to complain about. Look for funny noises from the clutch, make sure it rides well and has no issues with the suspension and hopefully it should be all good 🙂
Hey there. Thanks for your comment and glad you found it useful. Regarding the flag, it might be upside down. I did put it the right way up at one point before I had to empty the garage.
Great video! I have just one quetstion. Whenever I watch similar videos, the replacement of the fuel filter is often overlooked. Does this mean that it is no longer necessary to check the condition of this filter regularly? Thanks.
Hey there. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad the video was helpful. You’re right, the fuel filter does get overloaded most of the times, for various reasons. BMW recommend a 24000 miles fuel filter replacement interval. Hope that helps 🙂
Hello, I am new to the channel but I quite like it. I do have one question though. What happens to the driveshaft boots? Did the owner not want new ones? Is it OK to rise arround with damaged ones? Or did you change them off camera? Thank you. Keep the good work up. 👌
Hi there. I did point them out to the owner and explained what’s involved, but he chose not to do them at that stage. Which if absolutely fine, his bike, his choice 🙂 If they start allowing water in, it could cause some damage, but it will take some time to be fair.
@@garage_tales How hard is it to change them. Currently I ride a 600 hornet 04’ but I quite like this r1200r.. so I am looking into them.. Thanks for the quick answer 😉
@@norbertkovac6793 Not that hard. The 1200 is a bit easier than the older models where you needed special tools and accurately set bearing preloads. I’m mot sure what your skill level is, but with patience & attention it should be fine.
Cheeky 😂 It’s not my bike, it was stored for a pretty long time so maybe that’s why. If you look at the r1150gs videos that’s a lot worse. It gets ridden daily all year round. We get a lot of salt spread on the roads here in winter.
Couldn’t say for sure. It’s possible they would charge 1 hour labour (just over £100) plus the oil & filter. If you’ve bought the bike from them, they might give a discount or not charge a full hour if they didn’t spend it on the bike.
Nice and clean job! You made it look so easy and satisfying. Makes me wanna buy R1200R.
Thank you for your comment! Appreciate it 🙂
They are great bikes. If you get one, I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Hey there. Thank you for your kind comment! 🙂 I’d happily work on it if I was closer.
excellent video - great content and very well delivered. Many thanks for your time.
Thank you for you kind comment. Appreciate it and glad it was helpful 🙂
Thanks. Very informative and to the point with no extraneous conversation.
Love the part “ so I’m going to make you watch it”!
Thank you for your comment! Really appreciate it 🙂 And glad you found it useful 🙂
Great video. It was nice to have this refresher before performing the same maintenance on my "Beemy".
Thank you for your comment. Glad it was helpful! 🙂
Just bought a 1200r this year. This was helpful, thanks!

Veeeeery informative.
What are the torque setting for the transmission filler bolt, the final drive drain bolt?
Thx.
Hey there. Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it! 🙂
If I remember correctly, transmission drain & fill are 30Nm and final drive drain is 20Nm.
Thank you - great video with lots of good reminders!
Thank you for your kind comment! 🙂
Glad you found the video useful!
Thank you for your video, it was very helfull. and wish you will do the gear and axle oil change soon... all the best 😃👍👍👍

Is the union flag upside down, on the garage door?
Hey there. Thanks for your comment and glad you found it useful.
Regarding the flag, it might be upside down. I did put it the right way up at one point before I had to empty the garage.
Interesting video
Thank you! 🙂
Soo smooth! Nice job!

Udržba se na této motorce dělá jednoduše. Spíš mě zarazilo jak jsou orezavělě šrouby. To myjete motorku slanou vodou, nebo bydlíte na pláži? 😅

If I may ask, what are the torque values for the work you did?
Hi there. Torque settings are all in the video, every time I tighten something. Top left corner.
All the best!
Vlad
Thank you very much.
What size oil filter wrench and what bit for the drain plug?
Filters vary. From memory 8mm for the drain plug and 76mm oil filter with 12 notches.
What is your handguards ref ?
I’m sorry, not sure what you mean? 🙂
@@garage_tales do you have the reference of your handguards ?
And how much would that have cost down at bmw Motorrad?
Couldn’t say for sure. It’s possible they would charge 1 hour labour (just over £100) plus the oil & filter. If you’ve bought the bike from them, they might give a discount or not charge a full hour if they didn’t spend it on the bike.
