Correction! There is a spelling mistake D: Australia in Finnish is written the same as in English = Australia with just one a! The double a is how it's in Estonian, thanks to the person that pointed this out to me - I'll try my best to proof read more thoroughly next video!!

Kuningas- looks like an older form of Cyningas (kings) in Old English.
I looked more into it:
Kuningas goes back to Proto-Germanic *kuningaz for king
Saksa (Germany) would have likely derived from the term Saxon. Turns out Saksa comes from Old Saxon Sahsa, a close relative to Old English, and the OE cognate would be Seaxe.
It's funny cause there is still a state in Germany called Saksi/Sachsen/Saxony. So this is like a Holland-Netherlands situation for us.

I found out about this channel like on tuesday, and I have to say kiitos niin paljon! I have learn more in less than a week with you than I did with Duolingo and other options around the internet for a long time. Don't get me wrong, Doulingo is a great tool for learning lots of languages, but I think Suomi is too complex to engage using only the Duo way, so I humbly suggest to anyone reading this, to use Duo only as a fun tool for keeping this in mind, and to watch this content again, and again, and again, until it got deep into your brain. I taught myself english in a similar fashion. Anyway, kiitos vielä kerran ja terveiset Medellínistä Kolumbiasta. Nakemin!
Note: learning finnish while knowing spanish is easier, because the sounds are basically the same, so lucky me.

Omg so difficult to say "United States" and "United Kingdom" !!! ... as a Spanish native speaker, Finnish pronounciation is usually not as complicated as in some other languages because in fact we share many similarities, but there are a few exceptions and they tend to be really difficult ones! Good luck with your dissertation!
Yeah even Finns usually use "USA:ssa" or "Briteissä" for example when talking about those countries :P It is quite a mouthful! And thank you so much! :)

Not all people living in Finland are Finns. This channel is useful for people who have moved in Finland and want to learn the language. Of course there are some Finns like me who like to help other people to achieve that, despite how negligible our contribution might be in the grand scheme of things. :)
I hope I'm not the only Bulgarian. Your channel is great! It's very interesting that the Finnish names are so different. For example, in Bulgaria most of the country names have Roman/Greek roots. Which is normal considering the enormous cultural impact Greece/Byzantine empire had on Bulgaria. Any idea how the names ended up that way? Any historical context?
Nope. Was kind of hoping she'd mention Bulgaria but not surprised at all that it's not in the top 20.
@Streamer LX4 Why? Because they can. As far as law is concerned they are bulgarian citizens. Personally I don't like Bulgarian gypsies going to the rich countries just to exploit them. You should know that gypsies are a problem in Bulgaria too. Don't get me wrong. Generalization is never good. There are wonderful, educated gypsies, but certainly they are a minority. The Bulgarian government tried many things in the past to integrate them in society, failed every time. Partly because the governments are incompetent and partly because of the culture of the generic gypsy. The problem is a very complex one. These kinds of exploits are certainly one of the downsides of the free movement of people.
I almost wrote Croatia and then remembered I moved to Finland. 😂😂😂 it's still surreal. I guess I didn't wanna be in the 0.2 percent 😉 thank you for making these videos. You are my favorite resource for learning. 💕

If you're going to "YK" in Finnish you're going to join the UN organization or visit the headquarters.
"YK" also means unibrowns (yhdistyneet kulmakarvat, united eyebrows), but you can't visit them unless you're really small. Like a flea or something.

Oh sure, I'll add it to my list! Just in general if you add -isi to the word (for example antaisitko = could you give me, haluaisitko = would you want, saisinko = could I have etc) then that's the closest to please there is :)

I'd love a video about how to say Finnish city names: Espoo, Jyvaskala, Oulu, Turku, etc. Also, where do the names come from. Does Turku have something to do with furs?

No, Turku means originally market place; tori in current language.
It would be interesting to know why some of the names are so different. E.g. Estonia, Russia.

Instead of Viro, Estonia would be said as Eesti. It's a common mistake made by Finns because Viro is actually just a region in Estonia. So I would say "Olen Eestiläinen" = "I am Estonian"
it's definitely not a mistake. Viro = Estonia in Finnish. Virumaa is a province.
