Low Cost Delicious Pantry Stable Dinner || $5 Emergency Food Storage Haul || Food Storage Friday
• Low Cost Delicious Pan...
I recently made a trip to Dollar Tree and did some shelf stable shopping for my pantry. I bought things I saw you use that I had never tried. My husband had an accident and wrecked our car. We have been car less for two weeks now. No grocery shopping since. The fridge was pretty empty. I started using the items I bought at DT and was so glad I had them to fall back on. I finally had to buy some groceries so ordered and had delivered from Safeway. I was so happy that I had my shelf stable pantry to rely on, thanks to your influence. This 75 year old is learning new tricks from you!
I hope your hubby is ok
Having emergency food storage is extremely important.
Absolutely!
You look so cute today! Love the eyes. You have such nice kids, so polite and helpful. Be proud!
I'm a freelance writer who is just starting out. Thank God I live with my Mom, who is supporting me. I stock up on shelf stable food by getting help from two food pantries, one that gives fresh produce and some kind of bread and another that gives fresh produce, canned goods, pasta, dried beans, rice and sometimes bread.
The founder of Aldis is named Albrecht, All-Brecht. These are my kin from Germany. When we came to America in the 1600’s, we Americanized the name to Albright, All-bright. Love 💗
It's so neat that you're family started the Aldi store. I've shopped at ours for over 30 years. We have 3 stores in my hometown and the selections are wonderful. It used to be called, "The Stock Up Store". We lived out in the county so we kept cases of canned vegetables and fruits in our pantry. The prices were so much better than other grocers. Now, Aldi is more competitive and prices are close with other stores.
I do enjoy finding German foods. Especially at holiday season. I buy the Spekulata (sp) cookies or, Windmill shaped cookies. I enjoy those and the chocolate 🍫 is some of the very best!
Thank you for the background story on your family owned store.
When my ex was stationed at HAHN AFB Germany we lived on the economy. Aldi was our only grocery store in the town we lived in. Kirn was the name.
I’m actually interested in going shopping at Aldi. I used to drive an hour to Ohio to shop there every other week when I was married and had 3 young children. Now I’m single and a grandma to an almost 10 year old. Time flies.
@@kricketcooper5024 Wow! Interesting you said that because I live in Michigan and I remember my parents would go to the Aldi in Ohio once a month!
I just bought Honey and spaghetti. I then thought of the person that blessed you with the beautiful hen. Such good people left on this earth 😊
I love your glasses, they really make your eyes pop! And so lovely to see your 'fainting offspring' - such a happy helpful little guy
Pantry staples are important to have!
Our dollar tree doesn't have shelf stable milk..or alot of items that Brookie has at hers .so I just get evaporated in the can.same thing right? I don't know. I just got it😂😂😂
Evaporated milk is similar to shelf stable milk, only you need to add water in a 1:1 ratio. It also doesn't taste fresh, but that's okay if you're cooking with it.
Told my husband about this last week. Today we are having spaghetti with chicken in it. He also picked up 5 dollars worth of shelf stable food but put a twist on it. Everything he picked up was for use when we have the grand baby in a emergency.
I literally just got back from Aldis. Spent 57.81. Needless to say, it's for 2 people. Minus 13.00 for dog stuff. I'm trying to use what I have in freezer and a few things from grocery store.
You did GREAT…all that food for under $100. Is amazing. Barbara.
Take Brooke’s advice about using cash back apps where you scan receipts. It works!! I used the Upside app for gas and paid $2. Something a gallon which was the lowest price around me. Then I used the Fetch app plus my CVS account and a sale they were having for diapers. They came to $10.24 a pack which was less than Walmarts price and my local grocery store price. And when I was done, I scanned in all the receipts and will eventually get some more money back.
Wow with all of that meat purchased at Aldi you were able to get out of there under $100, that is very impressive.
I was watching your Yellowstone vacation and let me just say !!!! Ohhh girl!!!
My oldest daughter worked at Yellowstone for the year after high school graduation . At the park for the season then a ski resort for the winter. It was crazzzzzy expensive for everything! We would send her a box of goodies every month and it was still cheaper to pay $10 to mail it than for her to buy the same items. ❤❤❤
I get the Aldi beef ricearoni and a 16 Oz of grass fed beef at Walmart. I split the hamburger in thirds and make the ricearoni, and spaghetti, and other casserole with the hamburger 😊
12:33 YES! The starch in the liquid will help keep the chilli thick! I do the same when I make corn chowder, using one can of whole corn with the liquid and one can of creamed corn.
I have never ever seen muscadine grapes for sale in a store. They are my favorite grapes of all time. When I was in elementary school we lived in North Carolina and had a big old Muscatine vine in our side yard. The people in that area call muscadine grapes fox grapes, so I grew up calling them fox grapes. I have not had any for at least 55 years and now I'm really craving them. Lol I do not think they grow up north here in a state above the Mason Dixon line where I live now but I'm going to check.
I have never seen van Camp's anything other than pork and beans. Crazy.
I'm from NY and I pronounce it your way too. So does everyone else in NYC, You're right, they're wrong.
I love the chili idea with cornbread in it! Cool! Definitely, going to make this in the near future. Thank you Brooke! Boys are so sweet and Dusty is so kind! Blessed family!❤😊❤
We hit Aldi and a brand new $Tree after a doctor visit this week, to far away for weekly shops. Stocked up and got some good deals and pantry items. Big savings over local grocery and Walmart.
I went to Aldi earlier today. I got some of the ground beef, mushrooms and mini cucumbers as well. My Kroger has a sale this week on chicken breasts. $1.99 a pound. Since I just have to feed myself that package of 6 breasts will last me a long time. I usually just cook up one for whatever recipe I am making.
You could use a packet of velveta cheese sauce in the cornbread mix.
I love shopping with you !!!
Many informations for a french woman😊 !
What a good and cute assistant !!!!
WALMART…… my absolute worst nightmare of a store! God bless y’all for giving them your hard earned money……… I would rather flush mine down the toilet, then to give it to them
I love Aldi!!! Especially the salmon… that size serves 2 . We have the same sale on the organic beef here as well.
Brook your kids are adorable, they're turning into good-looking well mannered young men
Great haul Really enjoyed the chili.
Wow, food in the US is so much cheaper than Canada 😮
Sure is! I’m in Atlantic Canada and prices are crazy! I shop the sales (I love the loss leaders!). Have a super weekend
Can I request the added challenge of cooking your shelf stable meal over tea light candles? As if the power were out too. :)
Hi bestie 😂👋🏻 this ! Yes I’m here for it. 🙌🏻 with groceries so high on purchasing nothing, and still pay a lot of money for it. Definitely a good idea to have this at home.
I do my emergency pantry stock up at Dollar tree. $20.00 a month. Put it up on the shelf and I have it. I also can for long term pantry.
One way to have shelf stable meat in there is to make it with luncheon meat. I put spam in my regular chilli in addition to the beef all the time.
I remember when Martha White cornbread mix was called Cotton-Pickin' instead of Cotton Country. I guess someone thought "cotton pickin'" was somehow r@cist. I never thought of it that way. My mom used the mashed potato mix a lot; only problem was that there was never enough for me! I can take down at least half of one of those packets make. Love your videos, bestie!
10:54 Yup! That is what I do if I want meat in shelf stable chilli, but I will also cook dried beans to stretch the canned chili (which I get from Dollar Tree) and reduce the sodium.
The shelf stable meal looked delicious.
Brooke while you are on the topic of the five dollar pantry challenge it reminded me to ask if you would ever consider doing a video on how you budget. Not looking for your exact numbers of course that is private but a good basis for figuring it out. In this day and age I think we could all benefit from a little extra help and maybe a difference way of looking at things. Thanks for all you do! Love from New York 🌸🌸🌸
Another great video. Thanks, Brooke. (I missed over a week of videos - vacation and no internet., so catching up). Have a blessed weekend!
I buy canned salmon and make salmon croquettes. My personal favorite. Canned salamon is about $6 for two large cans. Cheaper than a chunk of salmon.😊
Hot water corn bread is water, corn meal, salt, and baking powder. I have made it as corn dodgers my whole life. So good.
Love this series and your accent !❤!
Looks super good!!
I got beans and ham cooking as I watch this. Such a good source of protein!
Aw he’s so cute!!!❤
Hello Brooke my grandpa use to grow muscadines and I use to sit in the garden and eat those and he also had an avocado orchard we use to take italian dressing a knife and a spoon cut the avocado's in half fill the hole with italian dressing and sit there and eat them up such great childhood memories. Great grocery haul and great chili!
Thanks! That chili looked great!
I just ❤ your videos..can't wait to see what you cook next ❤❤❤❤
These would be awesome for if you're going to a condo style hotel for a vacation where you have to take all your ingredients. Would be great after a power outage or an extended stay away from the house.
Shelf stable is good for power outages in summer time.
I love, love your glasses.
I read "Cotton Candy Cornbread". I couldn't fathom that flavor😂
Great video!
Me either, sounds yucky!
My family loved cooked beans with rice (I'm 67 yr old) . Add spices and pork bullion, i can eat this a couple of times a week. Is a complete protein and very filling. 😊store dry goods in large containers
Hi Brooke, here in Australia, we pronounce Aldi the same as you & for the exact reason you do, one L not 2 😊
My Aldi had the same organic ground beef for the same amazing price! I would never have seen it had I not watched your video. Thank you for all you do Brooke!
ALDI is our favorite store love it
❤ your glasses!
You are so beautiful.
Bless our hearts...I have the same accent 100% I'm just across the line in the NW corner of NC. "We've Got Food at Home" (lol) those words remind this 51 year old of when I was little...thank you. Love your channel.
The youngest boy looks just like his daddy Dusty 💯!
My daughter used to be a manager at Aldi in Australia...she said the correct way to pronounce Aldi is exactly the way you say it!!
When Covid hit I started a major food prep pantry that week...I loaded up on non perishables, trying to buy ones with longest experation dates. I have kept it up ever since. I always jump on sales like 10 for $10.00. My store sells lots of canned goods and pasta that way. I always have a huge bag of rice, and bags of dried beans.
I always pick up the muffin mixes that you just add water my kids like some of them for breakfast or for a snack
I think the way you say Aldi is correct. I’m from England but live in the US and we say it the same way.
I love seeing your boys. They always look so happy! 😊
Brooke when people say something about how you say Aldi, tell them at least you dont add the s on the end like most people do.😄
Of topic but I loved Wednesdays Aunt Vickie Brooke $10 challenge more please! ❤❤
Great deal on the hamburger!!!!!!😊
Thank you.
Make sure to show us the plaque - so proud of you
You look so pretty!!!! Wonderful video :)
You say Aldi the same way Australian’s do
Sounds good to me
You’re such a sweet mom!
You are right Brooke, the phonetic pronunciation is correct!😂
Muscadines are also my favorite!!!😍
You look so beautiful, just love you're channel thank you for all you do to help others ❤
Next to the crunch wrap dip, they also have mexican pizza sauce too! We got some to try. And the nacho cheese dip
When I make chili if I need to stretch my meat I will add cooked quinoa. It hearties it up for lower cost.
I will be making this.. I love chili and cornbread.
That’s a really good price for salmon and for mince, we had lazy lasagne made with ravioli tonight. We are a family of 4 in uk, my food bill is generally around £65.00 per week, I on.y shop once a week and don’t buy any more throughout the week
I love your page I think you are so kind and in part so much knowledge and your creativity is just outstanding. ❤
It would be lush on a cold winter day
I've heard many Europeans (where Aldi originated) say you're the one who says it correctly. I think the rest of us are saying it wrong. 🤣
I agree.
He's Znut! Takes after his Mother.😂😅😂😅😂😅
Aldi originated in Germany.
So many people have told me that!
Lol yep
Brooke, I've been meaning to ask, do you fix shelf stable meals randomly because expiration dates are coming up on your shelf stable pantry? I'd think that'd be a great way to move that food and replenish at the store once a week or so, right?
That looks like a nice, hearty meal. It proves that shelf stable doesn't have to be cardboard food with no flavor.
I enjoy your videos so much! You've got great ideas and great meals to switch things up and try new things. Keeping it fun is the best. That's what I like about you and Aunt Vickie! 🎉🎉🎉 😊
Muscadines are my faaaaave!!!!
Our Aldi’s had the organic hamburger for $3.99 too! We were limited to 4 packages. But still a great deal!
It’s a Good Friday!! Thanks Brook and adorable family. Connecting From- Jersey ❤
Hello
Looks delicious 😋
I made a big pot of chili today with a pan of cornbread 😁
I am 100% with you about the muscadines! I know before I even get out of the car at the muscadine are in! They smell good they taste good!
I am in North Tyneside, England.
I say Aldi the same way you do.👍🙏
We love the pork carnitas meat, in fact we had it last week. I like to cook it in the crock pot and since it's just my son and myself, we get three dinners and usually a lunch fir him. We make carnitas, tacos, burritos, sandwiches, add it to baked beans or cowboy beans, in mac and cheese and my favorite.... Use it as a topping on a loaded baked potato. Sooo good! I would love to see you do a video on meals to make out of that carnita meat.
You look beautiful today!
Looks awesome.❤
I bought muscadines today too I love them
Hi Talyn & Brooke !
Aussies say ALDI like you so it must be right!😊
I have been doing it for a few years...I collected so much that I donate my excess food...rice...can goods ...oatmeal...and etc to help the less fortunate...I am a widow and cook very little but I have cooked some of your recipes....thank you for helping people
Would love to see your pantry !!!! And thank you for all you do for us all!!! And I love your attitude and your family is so awesome
You like your grapes, me it is the JUMBO cherries, not a huge fruit eater but cherries are my favorite, l spend a crap load on them for the little time we get them. l actually am going to start to buy #10 cans of freeze dried meals once a month, PRO BASS has just brought them in, so told hubby l want to buy 1 a month, l think they would be great if we go camping or when you know what hits the fan. Add water and done. l also have a fully stocked pantry as well.. We bought another freezer last month, cause l like to prep, and make sure there is a good 6-9 months worth of meat.
One thing I like about Aldi is their canned vegetables. Unlike other store brands their cans are full of veggies not water.
I was just watching your video on 3.00 meals from 2yrs ago, glad you bring back 5.00 pantry items 😊
That was a good amount of tasty emergency food. I live close to an Aldi and get most of my groceries there, it's cheaper than our other stores. I love seeing the different products your Aldi has compared to our Australian one. Ps. We say Aldi your way too.
