- Washing Machine F05 Error Code Fix Hotpoint Indesit.
I started a washing cycle on the Hotpoint Aquarius Washing machine and then mid cycle it stopped with Error Code F05. On this model it indicates the Hotpoint Pump Filter is blocked and so the washing machine won't drain.
This procedure should also be the same for the Indesit F05 error code and Whirlpool F05 error code.
On some Hotpoint washing machines the F05 error code means a faulty pressure switch but that wasn't the case with our washing machine, it wasn't draining.
In this video I will show you what I did to diagnose the F05 Washing Machine fault, all the steps I took, how to remove the Hotpoint Washing machine Pump Filter (Indesit Washing machine Pump Filter), remove the Hotpoint blockage and fix the problem.
Hope this helps someone out there, this Hotpoint Washing Machine fault F05 error seems like a common problem, which is why you should check all pockets before starting a Washing machine cycle.
** Before starting this Job make sure the washing machine is unplugged from the Mains electricity.**
Hopefully the F05 Error is just a blockage and you haven't damaged the pump. If you hear any Washing Machine strange noises around the pump filter then don't wait for it to break, stop the cycle then clean out that washing machine filter as soon as you can. It will save you money and hassle.
How to clean Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine Pump Filter ideally is an annual job if you can do that. The washing machine filter will get dirty anyway.
If your washing machine isn't draining then hopefully after watching this video it will be draining again and not blocked up anymore.
F05 Error Code washing machine is fairly common, good luck.

Please mate help me, my machine (indensit) stuck like in this video with an annoying noise and it wont pump the water out, i checked if there is something stuck in the filter, ther was nothing in all of the pump pieces and pipes, but it wont pump, what could it be? The same thing happend to the last machine 2 months ago and now this is a 1 year old machine that got used 10 times before. I hope u see this and got an idea for me. Cheer

SUPERSTAR!!!!!!! My wife and are are living in Vienna, renting a flat. The owners are currently in India (I think). Following your VERY CLEAR instructions, we were able to fix the 05 error without having to bother the owners and without having to wait for a service call. We got the whole thing done in about 15 minutes. My wife even came up with a smart way to drain the water out of the machine without making a mess. Thank you! I just managed to fix my washing machine. It was hard to tilt the machine for me, but I let little amounts of water out of the filter pipe until it was light enough to tilt and get the bowl underneath. Hair clip lodged in the pump. Fingers crossed that’s fixed it!! Thanks 🙏

I also was thinking about calling repair guy but if its jut a matter of cleaning filter and they will take liek 30 euros or more, I mightb able to do it myself.
Shopping around for a new washing machine because I thought ours was on its way out judging by the horrible noises it was making. Thought I’d try this fix and there was the strap of a top wrapped around the filter!! Removed and now the washing machine is back to working normally again! Thank you so much! Moved into a new place and had the dreaded F05 code. Turned out the drain pipe was clear, the filter was clear but it was flashing all the lights. Further investigation it turned out that someone had blocked the outlet under the sink! Would never have felt brave enough to sort this out if I hadn't watched the video. Job done!

Found this video, followed the instructions and everything is working fine. Turns out it was a sock causing the blockage was easily removed.
All this happened on my birthday which which had a surprising benefit. The fact I managed to figure it out with your help and sort it made me feel like a real man in front of the wife! Better feeling than any present I got that day!

This just saved us from disaster.. been given a second/third hand washer as ours has broken down and can’t be fixed.. faced with having to buy a new machine just before Christmas.. friends gave us a spare machine they had in their garage. F05 came up as fault.. found your TH-cam and guess what we found? Just over 1£ in coins and a flippin hair pin!! All cleaned out and sorted now. Thanks so much 👍

Thanks for the help. Initially I couldn't pull the machine out because the compartment is very tight, the machine was full of water and the feet had dug into the flooring. Managed to manually release the door, remove the drenched washing and excess water. Then I put some washing up liquid under the feet so they would slide more easily. Then followed your steps. Turns out a sock had somehow managed to get into the filter. All sorted now and saved the Whirlpool £110 call out charge.

Brilliant video! Very easy to follow. Thing is I did all this and nothing was trapped in the pump filter. Absolutely fine. Yet when I start a new cycle, I'm still getting an F05 error message. As water seems to be able to get into the machine just fine, maybe the dirty water hose is blocked? I'm bad with things like this. I have towels and buckets at the ready. I really need to figure this out.

Thank you for the video! I've done it and found an elastic band blocking the pump. I removed it and now the pump works. Unfortunately, it is liking from the bottom now !! Do know what it can be?
Maybe you didn’t lock the filter back in properly? It should turn a few times then lock fairly tight. You could try some Vaseline on the thread. But really it shouldn’t need it
Just this minute followed your instructions the washer had a blockage around the pump I cleaned it out and cleaned the filter it is now working again thanks to you my friend all in all took ten minutes and probably saved us £50 to £100 or more thanks again great instructions

Hello, thank you for your video. Once I clear the items from the filter pump, is the F05 code supposed to disappear or do I need to turn off my washing machine at the wall switch and turn it back on again for the F05 code to disappear? (Assuming nothing else is blocked) Thank you.
Yes turn it off at Mains or there may be a factory reset that you can do, this may be in the instructions.

Cheers for this. I've been living in my new place for 2 months. I've already had the landlord come round twice to sort and fix things and couldn't be doing it for a third time this week. Washing machine is sorted - no hair clips but a pesky colour catcher got in the pump

Oh dear. If filter is clean and drainage pipework is ok then I'd ring up under warranty and get someone out to have a look at it. Good luck.
Good video. There's another video where he skips straight to recommending a new blockage sensor from eBay rather than actually check there is not a blockage first lol
Tip, it can be quite hard to tell if your waste pipe from machine is blocked, the clue for us was a horrible stench (stagnant water), if it smells foul then suspect a blockage, we cleared it by gently compressing (standing on) the flexible pipe and all the crap then came out!

Thanks for this video, pal. I found a shoelace caught up in the impeller of the pump inside the drain plug. I was quoted £140 for a callout & 1 hour of labour + any parts used. You saved me a small fortune.

Just having this problem with my hotpoint.
Is it definately always the filter? (Before I open it) or can it be some other problem?
I do have insurance but not sure how long would have to wait for a callout with things going on.

Acabo de arreglar una lavadora similar con el mismo codigo de error gracias a este video. Sobretodo despues de vaciar, debeis de dejar que las turbinas que tiene puedan girar sin problema. En la junta que tiene con el tubo a veces se cuelan monedas como en mi caso y es dificil detectar. Os recomiendo que trateis de hacer la prueba que giran las turbinas con un pincel. Excelente ayuda y suerte a los / las manitas que trateis de arreglarlo!

Just seeing what I'm getting myself into... or I just wait for Monday and call my agency to get someone to fix it... but don't really want my clothes soaked in water for 2 days! 😞
It’s up to you, you need to make sure you don’t flood the place so need to isolate the water then remove the filter and check for blockages

That means you should run the Drum Clean programme or a 60c programme with no laundry. Use half amount of detergent. Happy to help. Stay safe 😀

just done mine. f05.first video i saw suggested the pressure sensor which i was getting ready to call the engineer for.

Good advice and video got me out of trouble close to xmas, my one I couldn't pull the machine out because of the amount of water in it so I used a vacuum that sucks up water as well, I made an air tight seal with sellotape on the different size pipes and connected to the water waste pipe on the machine , and followed the advice on pump area and found buttons and coin and bits and pieces. Working fine now , thanks very much for the video.

Simply put - saviour! My machine exhibited the same symptoms and once opened up we found one of these plastic grips which come with new shirts and a load of chunky limescale....Very appreciative for this video and I echo the other comments - you saved a call out! 👍🏾

Hi, many thanks for this great video. I have a Hotpoint WMXTF842 vintage 2015 giving a F-05 code.
I’ve taken the pump off and cleaned it out thoroughly along with it associated pipe-work. In particular there was a lot of gunk on the outboard side of the drain hose connection.
I had high hopes but the error remained. I then tested the pump motor/impeller with a multimeter and also watched it running so it seems fine.
What happens is that it pumps ok during the start of the cycle but after a while just carries on “trying” to pump and then throws the F-05 code and finally stops pumping.
The best way to describe it is that “it pumps out ok BUT doesn’t seem to know when to stop. Then after trying to pump (with countdown timer stalled) for several minutes (with no water coming out) it stops pumping, the error code having been issued a few minutes earlier”
The only thing I can imagine, apart from the CPU, is the Pressure Sensor. I’ve checked it’s pipe work and it’s seems pretty clear.

It’s worth checking the filter again. Sometimes after clearing it more debris can fall down into it. If that’s clear then I’m afraid it could be any number of things such as pump failure or computer board error or the pressure sensor. I think those pressure sensors are a bit sensitive. You can try tipping the machine sideways a few times but be careful of water spillage! Hope you get it fixed

I’ve just realised that I haven’t checked the pressure chamber for blockages. I did try blowing down the pipe from the pressure switch/sensor and although I got some air through it was pretty difficult.
My problem is that I can’t see how to remove the chamber, can you please tell me how to do this.

I repair these day in day out, good video. And the last one I went to F05 had 2 hair clips jamming the pump.
NOTE: F05 means pressure switch fail. While F11 means drain fail. But if you actually get F11. It usually means a physical repair

Video guide to clearing the blockage was great.
Expected to be plumping £250 on a new machine, but found it was an old debit card that had caused the pump impeller to be siezed.
Found the rest by taking of the feed hose and fishing it out from the square sump type bit.

thank you for an excellent video .just saved me a few quid , i'm an old arthritic gas engineer and adapted your method to suit me ....... instead of moving the machine i used a wet/dry vacuum to drain the machine slowly via the filter. cheers

Thanks for the helpful video...helped us out a situation and saved a callout to repair the fault. Apparently no objects found in filter....but 2 large throws in the tub.....which can only think because of the bother it had draining water from it...then may have caused the code error to be shown. Eventually got it drained away and up and running again. Thanks for the upload...keep up the good informative content. Liked and subscribed.👍
If the drum is full with heavy laundry when that gets wet it will be very heavy so the machine may get a fault. Glad it’s all ok anyway and thanks for subscribing 😎

I can't get the Hotpoint Aquarius+ WMPF 746 Washing Machine Pump Filter switch to turn. It turns half way and won't budge. I have tried everything. Is this suppose to turn 3 times?
I FEEL GR8! Holistic Therapy & Training Probably because something is jammed in there stopping it turning (like a metal hair clip). Just keep tightening then I tightening and wiggle machine about. Hopefully it will drop out and you can unscrew it.
Thank you I had an Indesit IWSC51051 which had a wet wipe in there. Again, thank you so much. Also, F05 error on a Whirlpool washing machine is not a drain issue, it is a NTC fault.

This really helped, I took the filter out expecting a big tangled clog but it was clean. I never thought to look at the propeller area. Once I did that, I found a hairband stuck in there!
