- This is what happens if you turn the Nintendo Switch clock backwards and attempt to do the lottery in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. If you only move the clock forward this does not happen.

Here is how to actually win the lottery by cheating - th-cam.com/video/qmS1Or39AIk/w-d-xo.html
What does he say if you lie about tampering with the clock?
He goes from "I'm not mad I'm just disappointed" to "I'm going to end the world" real fast.
It would have been funny if it displayed a fake Switch crash screen before going back to the game.
That would be so evil!
I'm imagining it now, a construction paper 'black' background with the Switch error has occurred message on screen, except it's in the paper mario font.
"THAT'S IT! NO MORE HAPPY LUCKY LOTTERY EVER, BOOM!"
*the software was closed because an error occurred*
I think it would've been funny if they pulled a "trick" on the player by making them think the game somehow glitched and they lost all their progress as punishment for cheating the lottery, like the Scarecrow game crash prank in Batman Arkham Asylum.
@@briannawilson8845honestly games should do that more as either a joke or a punishment for cheating in a minigame
Shadow Queen: "I am going to end this world and everything with it."
Lucky: "Hold my lottery ticket and clock."
Shadow Queen: "...what is this stuff you've given m--"
Lucky: "..............................................................."
_"Nothappynothappynothappynothappy!"_
Shadiw Queen: Oh F*ck this! I'm staying in this coffin!
Ghost Toad : Did you guys forget me. I can literally punish him for reading my diary
@@Iron8127oh hello bonetail. You got biiiiiiiig....
Bonetail: arooooooooooooo
I like that now your partner also freaks out during the whole meltdown sequence, in the past it was just Mario waving his arms while the partner was chilling behind him.
Mario and friend: Panicking and scared for their lives
NPCs: Just another Thursday
1:41 NPC: ah nothing much going on just a bomb bo bomb throwing a meltdown, nothing to see here
Rogueport's a pretty rough place, even in the good part of town.
@@howlingwolf949I JUST SAW THAT TOO XD Just the expression and all, they were just watching
I wish they would have had the NPCs reacting to this lol that would have been funny
Literally. It was Thursday yesterday too
Ah yes, the "Never trust another person" temper tantrum. I feel ya, bro.
Ironic, considering how it is rigged.
This was (and still is) simultaneously the most hilarious and traumatizing way to mess with cheaters. I especially love the fake out TV shutoff and the partner freaking out with Mario they added in.
>Cheating.
Says the one running a scam lottery.
you get the ticket for free though.. and it lets you participate forever unless you cheat. that's not a scam.
@@dierareThis is a reference to a video discussing how Happy Lucky Lottery is programmed. It's a scam in that the winning number isn't randomly generated, rather a day is chosen for Mario to win.
I Imagine this is how he reacts to daylight savings time when the clock has to be messed with.
To be fair daylight savings time is some bullshit.
Only if you boot up your GCN copy within an hour of the clock being changed. TTYD has its own internal clock that checks against time passed on the GCN’s clock. If they mismatch then you “cheated”, so just wait an hour. Better than how later games would handle DST anyhow.
This is the remake, though@@Rexaura888
@@titanic_monarch796 Well yeah. In the Remake he’d be more accepting of DST since the Switch’s clock is normally synced up to the internet which factors it in compared to GCN which had no such convenience.
remember, in the original you had to go for 300+ real life days to get the jackpot because of how they coded it
💣: I'm going to *_END THE WORLD_*
🐶: 😎
Bomb: you cheated!?
Mario: yes!
Bomb: I was talking to- tHe PLaYer….
I am SO glad they kept this
the fucking irony in the fact this calls you a cheater
*when happy lucky lottery itself cheats against you, having to make you wait a fucking year to get power plus*
at least in the original, idk if they kept it the same in the remake
Honestly, the biggest cheat of all IS the fact that the jackpot is Power Plus when I can equip 6 Power Rushes (or Mega Rushes) for the same amount of BP.
@@georgecortes3416 tbh power plus is like the best passive badge so it makes sense
*WHY DO I NEED TO WAIT A YEAR TO GET IT THOUGH*
@@teaoftraffic Personally, I don't plan on equipping any damage raising badges this time around, its more fun that way.
@@teaoftrafficthe drawback to power plus is the fact it takes 6 bp to equip, assuming the remake didn't change it you can have the stat swapping guy lower your hp to 5 max and then power rushes/last stands will always be active, which lets you buff your stats for a much lower bp cost. For the same 6 bp you could put on 3 power rushes for +3 attack and 3 last stands. That many last stands puts you at 1/4 damage rounded up, which means an enemy attack has to have 5 power to do 2 damage, 9 to do 3, 13 to do 4, etc, and defense (be it from defend plus badges, courage shells, or just blocking) is applied AFTER the past stands' reduction, so just 1 defense means anything that does 4 or less simply doesn't hurt Mario at all, so your low hp barely even matters. All that from just that 6 bp you would spend on the one power plus, not even mentioning the fact the max bp is 99 and you can farm infinite amounts of power rush and last stand from enemies (for those who don't know, see the "Elusive Badge!" trouble after ch4 to speed that up a lot)
@@abra_escaped they didn’t but
it’s worth it
"Something very unhappy has happened" should be a new meme.
Has a somewhat similar ring to "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"
@@briannawilson8845 Exactly!
Can't believe they didn't fix the lottery... Nobody plays the game long enough to get the top prize, you've finished the game in a week.
Yeah it's a shame they made it illegal to play a game that wasn't released the same week you are playing it in. Who will ever win this lottery!?!?
@@FireTacoSpartanYou have absolutely no idea what's going on, and it's funny.
@@FireTacoSpartanYou have to wait a real life year to win. You also have to wait a real life year for that information to process in your brain, so it's not like anything is new for you there. Or maybe it is.
You seriously complaining over a trick makes a 1 in 10000 event guaranteed after 395 attempts?
@@TunaBear64 Over 395 days, yes. Your point?
2:01
_Grabs remote to make sure the TV is actually on. Ends up turning it off for real_ 😂 Why do I have a feeling that happened to someone out there
The screen is only off for a quick moment
Their reaction time to notice the effect, conclude the TV had been turned off (even though it's not showing pure black so it would probably still be illuminated), get the remote and turn the TV off would be kind of unreasonable.
Apparently 40 of us have. Congrats on calling us out
I like how in the remake Mario's partner panics with him too
Imagine if this started a secret boss fight where if you win he just lets you cheat
That would be so interesting!
So basically like the Super Optional Boss fight in Bloodstained when you fight the Librarian?
I bet the lottery is still rigged, i just use it for free shrooms
I truly hope not.
But, considering that the "Don't rewind the clock" gimmick is here, I would be more disappointed than surprised if that second gimmick is here.
Someone have to check the rateing system for that to conform
It seems to work the same, the only big difference is that Lucky no longer offers you a new ticket if you don't get a winning number
@maglev957 good that is actually a scam.
Now that I think about, I'm not even sure how the game knew that you changed the clock in the original. My understanding is that the GameCube just has the one internal clock, but at least on the Switch, there's a local clock and an Internet clock, basically. So that, I get.
I was genuinely scared for a second that they changed it in the remake so you’d actually get a Game Over.
Reasons why you shouldn't piss off a literal nuke:
Didn't he have a line of dialogue in the original version where he says that your actions made Toadette cry?
That's one of the lines you get when you keep clicking "I have no idea"
mom please don’t tell toadette i didn’t finish my dinner
Mario is so sassy in the dialogue prompts LMFAO
I like how this is the only game where Mario can be an absolute dick, and I love how disturbed his party members always are whenever he gives a mean response.
Let there be hotdogs!
@@MadchimpzHe can be a jerk in Super Mario RPG as well. Such as refusing to help Mallow get his coin back, and making Mallow cry. He can also give away someone's wallet for tons of coins, and he tried to outright punch a child and his friends had to hold him back because said child didn't think Mario could handle the adventure on his own, saying he'd need to "get all the help he could use." Oh yeah, and he can steal items from people's house when he promised to watch over their stuff. It's funny how rude you can make Mario be in these games.
I love how marios options are
"I will never do it again"
Or
"I might"
And then right after its
"I swear on all that stuff"
Or
"I really might do it again"
Like bro does not give TWO SHITS about what happens with this lottery game.
So, if I remember correctly, this happens if the game recognises current time is earlier than last time you checked the lottery results (so one could tamper with the clock to check on a missed day by tampering with it before turning on the game).
There's no actual penalty for doing it again except needing to buy another ticket (because there's an upper limit to how far the system clock works).
I don’t recall ever seen that happen in the GameCube version. But that was scary shown in the video.
Also, the minor characters in the background doesn’t get freaked out that Big Bob-omb selling the Lottery Tickets yelling at Mario for cheating and going to explode the area.
It was in the gamecube version, I watched a video about it years ago
This would be incredible for an anti-piracy screen
Missed opportunity for a game over after cheating again.
Cant wait for little timmy to start crying after the tv cutoff
TVs don't even turn off like that anymore... I made myself sad.
Me when I am slightly inconvenienced:
Bro think he Resetti
This guy should be an assistant trophy in Smash, just like Mr. Resetti was in Brawl.
I like the extra music added in
Stryder7x is proud
Mario flailing his arms around so much he's gonna need prosthetics...
ah, nothing like some existential dread to scare the children
Even more scary than the Shadow Queen
I'm glad they didn't forget this
and this is a question for the original release too
what if you keep denying changing the clock?
They should’ve made him attack you and be a super boss and if you win, it gives you permission to cheat
Holy shit, idk if this was in the original game but that was intense
It was
It was
“I might”
“I really might do it again”
Bro was about to nuke the city 😱
Curious on if this was in the OG in any way. I don't remember coming across it in any way.
Nintendo really missed a great opportunity but also a dangerous one if they make lucky the TLB of TTYD if he goes with his word after caught player cheating 3 times and the battle begins with a timer of 600 seconds (10 minutes) to deplete lucky 1000 HP (danger strat mandatory) and lucky slips his scam business with the lottery and frankly appears to arrest him and run the lottery with more fair chances.....if you fail the ultimate punishment lucky crash the game and deletes on your profile the save data of TTYD.
Scared me so bad I’ll never mess with the clock even in Animal Crossing
I guess it only makes sense that they’d remake this part as well.
Did they fix the lottery just being not worth it anyway?
I'm guessing it'll soon be the end of an era. . . The end of Mr Mild Resetti, and the restoration of what he was always supposed to be. 🧐
. . . A big a-hole. 😜
Umm… what happens if you adjust the clock because of daylight savings or time zone changes? Does he still accuse you like this?
honestly Lucky deserved to be cheated here for making us have to wait a whole fucking year for a power plus badge of all things
Mario and his partners can survive explosions by Bob-ombs twice the size of Lucky so I don’t think they’re in any actual danger here, but maybe Lucky is just built different.
Should’ve been a Lucky superboss or something in the remake, maybe after you’ve ‘cheated’ three times. Would’ve been pretty funny.
500 coins to restart it wow I don't think any of the good prizes are worth that. I only use this guy for mushrooms for cooking
A Power Plus, you can get one from Dazzle and another one from somewhere I forgot.
And you have Jumpman, P-Up D-Down, Power Rush and Mega Rush anyway.
I had no idea this was a thing in the original.
Is the Happy Lucky Lottery still completely rigged against the player? (Well, in some sense it was rigged in your favor, since you win after 335 days, which is way less than the expected 10,000 days, but you can't win before that and almost no one would still be playing the same save file for a whole year)
What if you say no if asked about the clock tampering
I can't believe they kept this, this is nothing short of psychological horror. I get its trying to scare people to no longer cheat but still
I literally CAN’T ever participate in the lottery because I change my switch’s clock around for Animal Crossing and I don’t want to piss Lucky off lol
I swear I would start crying if I was a little kid and saw this 😭
imagine seeing this as a kid
Well, it’s not like the Shadow Queen or the Excess Express ghost where choosing demonic slavery or reading someone’s personal diary intentionally earns you a “Game Over” screen… 😅
(I myself never did either one in my life)
I wonder if the same time exploit works in this one too.
This should’ve been a secret boss in my opinion
I'm getting Resetti vibes 😂
I wonder how the formula works for the lottery. Is it still a year long scam for a badge?
ah yes, the new .exe dropped.
I remember a rumor spreading around that if you cheated multiple times on the same save file he actually would explode and give you a game over. It's not true. :P
Imagine if the Game Over screen appears if the Lottery Bomb ACTUALLY BLOWS UP?
Maybe like if you CHEATED 5 times?
His name is Lucky.
Now he would def explode if someone pirated the game
so what if you do do it again
Someone should edit this to be an anti-piracy screen, lol
Giving yokai watch vibes
I'm so sad this wasn't another superboss.
Just think, Lucky would have 777 HP and 7 Defense. A lottery number appears over the stage, and Lucky would draw a new, RNG lottery card each turn. If it happens to land on the number displayed above, he explodes and deals 777 Damage.
this is gonna traumatize some kids
What if you chose "Don't be ridiculous?" 👀
What happens if you denied cheating the lottery
Is the lottery still rigged like in the original?
apparently yes sadly
They still didn't take into consideration Daylight Saving Time in the remake?
as far as i can tell, dst would likely be accounted for in the remake, since Switch on internet time auto-syncs the clock
Does he take the stuff you won from the lottery if he catches you cheating?
no
I don’t even have the option on my Switch to change the clock.
You change the systems clock, on the switch settings...
@@RocketZX I said I don’t have that option. It doesn’t let me.
Do you have it so that your clock is synced up via the internet? If so, disable that and you can change the time and date on your system manually.
@@Rexaura888 It worked.
What if you break your promise?
And how can you cheat the Happy Lottery?
Pokémon lottery clock tampering doesn't work here in Paper Mario😱
I mean, but I really am gonna do it again tho
What is he gonna do, throw another impotent temper tantrum?
If datamining reveals lucky is still a cheater I’m gonna be disappointed.
Well that's annoying. I need to change my system clock because it's incorrect 🙄
Yeah this is the only game where it actually punishes you for Time Traveling. Its not like Animal Crossing.
Animal crossing _did_ punish you for time traveling though, and still does to a lesser extent. See Mr. Resetti for the former punishment. As for the latter, it only really affects your turnips
@@SboyS14 Its only if you time travel backwards then and only then that the turnips spoil. As for Mr Resetti he doesn't appear in the more recent AC game but only from the Roost when you see him sometimes. (New Horizions)
Oh no, the scamery is closed. Anyway...
And I'll do it again
I'd hoped they had changed the lottery to be far less terrible. Shame.
Uh…wow…talk about trolling cheaters…in glorious HD
I am disappointed they didn't do a fake crash.
*CHEATERS NEVER PROSPER!* 👹👹👹👹👹👺👺👺👺👺👿👿👿👿👿
Considering they didn’t fix the lottery cheating is justified here
The pianta mobster in the background has no reaction whatsoever
just blow up already, after all even if i cheat with confidence your price is just straight up garbage
This just seems unnecessary
Its important to cheat because there will always be someone who is better than you and in order to beat them and feel better again you have to cheat!
