That's not why. Around the time that George Floyd was killed, the show was in-between seasons. When the next season started production, the actor didn't want to come back and play a cop when the Black Lives Matter movement started gaining traction. He said something like "it doesn't feel right to play a cop when people of color are being racially profiled and killed by cops who are supposed to protect and serve".
