Bruno Mars - “24K Magic” Synth Bass Cover (Moog Sub Phatty)

  • All glory be to Christ. My boast is in Him alone.
    Back again, this time with a classic bass line from Bruno’s “24K Magic”. I know everyone and their mom has posted a cover of this song but i feel that there are only a select few that nail the sound and the groove of the original. And no moog bass series would be complete without this song.
    So anyways hope you enjoy!

    Thank you for making this. Almost all the Sub Phatty demos I could find were people trying to make the most aggressive noises possible. It is really helpful to see someone making tasty basslines on the sub phatty.

    • @emiliorivera1045
      @emiliorivera1045  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You are very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. You’re right - there’s very few demos of the Sub Phatty with warm, classic Moog tones and most of the demos are quite off-putting. It’s a misrepresented and underrated synth for sure. Hopefully I have helped change that a bit!

      The Sub Phatty has a button on the bottom left called "Activate Panel." Once you press this, you can adjust all the knobs to how he has his set in the video.
      I just did it and my Sub Phatty sounds exactly like his. It's awesome!
      Otherwise, if the "Activate Panel" button isn't pressed, you're playing a preset and the knobs don't mean anything until you move them.

    HI... with the new Subsequent 25... do you think it will produce the same bass? because they say it has more headroom, and is voiced like the Subsequent 37.... so will it do bass ? ( I somewhere feel the low headroom and the higher distortion made it unique and more analog in some twisted retro way )...

    • @emiliorivera1045
      @emiliorivera1045  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey man! Yeah this is a custom patch that I made. You can follow these instructions to recreate the sound on your Sub 37:
      The sound consists of two sawtooth oscillators tuned an octave apart from each other with slight detuning (not too much, just enough for subtle phasing).
      Next open the filter up about 60% and add a good amount of filter envelope with the attack at 0, sustain at 0, and decay around 1 second.
      Keep the amp envelope at full sustain, 0 attack, 0 release and that’s really it!

    The sub patty is just for basslines? And can i play bass on the regular ?

    • @emiliorivera1045
      @emiliorivera1045  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no the Sub Phatty is not just for baselines, however it is a monophonic instrument (meaning you can only play one note at a time) so you’re somewhat limited by that as you can’t play chords and such. This is why they’re most commonly used for bass sounds and leads.

    Awesome video! I wanted to ask if you got copyright issues for using the original track?

      Thanks for watching! Fortunately I haven’t had any copyright issues so far.

    How do you make the bass patch though? I Got the same synth

      Of course!
      My Sub Phatty in this video is in active panel mode as well if you’d like exact knob positions but hopefully that’ll get you pretty close.

      Works a treat thanks. I’m sure a pro would tell the difference but I was just after a phat bass for stock sounds and that my friend has nailed it. Cheers my man👍
