I'm tossing up between a sarca excel and a Vulcan. Your review has convinced me that the excel, with a saving of 30% over the Vulcan is the best consideration. Thanks again for your review, regards Paul
I bought a SARCA excel a few years ago to replace the Delta anchor that failed time and time again, I found anchoring with a delta would often turn into a mystery ride, it was terrible at resetting and out of sheer frustration I purchased the SARCA excel and it has never failed once, we anchor out about 30 weekends a year and often have other boats rafted to us. the excel was twice the price of a delta but worth every cent
UPDATE 3 years on from my original post, the SARCA EXCELL is still working flawlessly, it has never let me down not once not ever, I've enjoyed many a storm with a cold beer, while watching the shit show of other boats with older style anchors dragging and panicking
@@mvhassallfree1031 I’m betting you used to have galvanised Delta and certainly not this fancy stainless steel version which has incomparable tip/toe weight of 40% :-) th-cam.com/video/e-918SES3dU/w-d-xo.html
So great to see a new video from you and it’s a really good one. I wish you had a Vulcan to test as I’m really curious about it and the new Mantus anchor without a roll bar.
Very good information. It would be interested if you would also say in your videos anchor weight, chain lengths and rope, as well as the boat weight in the video. Because not everyone is watching your videos frequently. Thanks 😊
Steve check out a Jambo Anchor. just found it, looks like it would hold pretty good. but don't know about pulling it up if it would turn sideways and stick your hull.
I have contacted the manufacturer twice and received no reply. They are in Australia, and I am in the United States. I suggested a United States distributor and reseller because going through an Australian reseller is not practical when you calculate the shipping on "one anchor". A United States distributor could mass ship thus lower the very expensive shipping cost due to the weight of the item. Great anchor that needs a sales team in the United States and Globally.
@@flygoodwin Therein lies the problem. No United States sales support. Thank you SV Panope (I am watching your video right now), I enjoy your unbiased anchor reviews. Per your review I wanted to buy an Excel, unfortunately the customer service did not reply to my request to purchase the anchor. Question: Can I purchase a 70 to 80 lb anchor from you that will take my Morgan 454 around the world?
Great reviews Steve. Definitely swapping my old cqr with an excel. For a 48ft steel trawler weighing about 30t would you consider a 50kg no 9 as suitable or would a 55kg no 11 be more suitable (or let me sleep at night)?
Good question. All I can say is that none of the three Excel anchors that I have show any signs of corrosion near the stainless areas (toe). Perhaps the small quantity of Stainless steel is not an issue given the relatively large amount of zinc (galvanizing).
@@flygoodwin That's exactly right. Small stainless + large zinc = fine. Small zinc + large stainless = goodbye zinc! Stainless hardware bolting together hot-dipped galv steel parts is extremely common in the building industry.

Rocna are pretty good at taking the piss with their anchor prices.....
This Sarca Excel is my pick of the bunch. The top three being Spade, Mantus and Sarca Excel. Thanks for the video!
I'd love to see a test of the Ultra stainless

You do the best tests!
Glad you like them.
Just found out I'm using
a copy CQR.... was thinking a new no.6 sarca excel for my 15t yacht. Thanks for all your test vids
Whoho - so glad to see a post. Bob

Great stuff here SVP, highly impressed.
Another great video Steve! Thanks for all your hard work.
Great to see you back!
Wahoo!! Anchor Enthusiasts rejoice :0)
Thanks for retesting this one.
You're welcome

thanks for your video. interesting point about the cast ballast. Would the stainless tip be a problem when re galvanising?
No problem galvanizing stainless steel.
I have a no.4 best anchor ever !
Finally a new anchor test!

Why are these anchors thrown in with all the ropes tied? Is it not meant to represent a real world scenario?

North American distribution is handled by Ground Tackle Marine of Victoria B.C. Canada.

Great video! Love this review.
If you had to choose one of either a Spade, Mantus or Sarca Excel for a world cruise, which would you choose?

I'd go big if your windlass and roller are large enough.
What scope : depth ratio are you using during your tests?
What about the Stainless vs Galvanized dissimilar metal corrosion?

They should market this anchor as "Better for the environment/Sealife" since an anchor that resets quickly doesn't dredge the entire ocean floor.
As a matter of fact, I believe the manufacturer (Anchor right) does exactly what you suggest.
That is exactly how I look at this, particularly with all the boats out these days.
Can you test Rocna Vulcan and New Mantus M2?
I would be happy to test either of those anchors, if one were made available to me.
@@flygoodwin Hope that you can get them for testing! Have you tried to ask mantus or rocna? I can try to email them aswell
@@flygoodwin Mantus anchors answered my email. They said that they are gonna look in to this
Best anchor
