The "House of Guy Laroche" is being released through L'Oreal. As soon as I saw the box at 3:38, I knew Drakkar was being licensed by L'Oreal. That's why you see so much information. Note the ingredients line. Even though it wasn't clear, I was able to make out the letters "F I L" on the last line of the ingredients. That's the formula code (apart from the batch code). FIL stands for "Fragrance Ingredients List". It's on every L'Oreal produced fragrance box. That's why the boxes shouldn't be thrown away and also why you and every reviewer should mention formula codes. It's the only way to tell future reformulations.
I wore Drakkar Noir in the 1980's when it first was released. I think I went through 2 splash bottles before I bought it again from Amazon about 7 years ago. Hopefully, this intense version will show up here at the discounters or the rack stores. I'd rather hear your take on projection and sillage, if any. Longevity as a skin scent is of no interest to me. I have too many scents where I can smell a base note 18 hours later or more from a half inch away.

Drakkar Intense is supposed to be comapred with the original Drakkar NOT Drakkar Noir, the new Drakkar Intense version is supposed to be a continuation of the original one.

Born August of '71. My go to's back in the 80's ... I started with Pierre Cardin then to Geoffrey Beene "Gray Flannel", then finally to Drakkar Noir in the late 80's. I look forward to trying this scent!

I'm from 1975 and Drakkar Noir was my intro to fragrances. My friend next door wore it and I found it very nice. Next one was Dunhill Edition and the rest is history. Really interested in this one.

I just got my bottle Drakkar Noir today and I really do like it. My father used to wear it in the 90ts and I ordered it as a blind buy, because I had good memories of it, but didn`t really knew the detailled scent. My age is in the mid 40ts now and I am positivly surprised by Drakkar Noir, because its fresh and masculine ina way you don´t find in todays fragrances. The lavender in the top note is the part some people may find a bit strange and cold, but I find it interesting. So now I am interested to check out Drakkar Intense also.

I’m 52 and I have never owned Drakkar. In college, every guy I knew wore it. The hallways of my dorm smelled like a Drakkar factory. So I ‘moved on to something else, and why I started wearing Dior Fahrenheit. I didn’t want to smell like everyone else…even not knowing anything about fragrances.

Not sure if I'll like it, really not into Barber Shop type of sents but I'll try it... my main go to for years was diesel fuel for life, and in my younger days I used joop here and there... I wore "Drakkar Noir" in the 1990s and I loved it very much- I still can love how that fragrance used to be like. I remember that it had excellent overall performance, and it was much thicker and just overall better than it currently is. I do plan to try this new one. I own "Pasha de Cartier Parfum" and I don't know if I'll ever get to try "Azzaro Pour Homme Intense", so I hope to try "Drakkar Intense". I think that it's interesting that the company Guy Laroche is paying attention to a certain trend concerning those aforementioned fragrances.

I'm about 9 years younger than you and I remember the Noir being extremely popular among teens well into the early to mid 90s. I know my brother and cousin wore it a lot. I never had a bottle myself (I was a CK One and Eternity guy back then), but I did enjoy it and would sometimes use my brother's. I'm excited to try this new iteration, though. It seems interesting.

    • @mattsmith1440
      @mattsmith1440 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Interestingly enough, oakmoss may not smell how you think it smells. I just got a bottle of the 'essential oil' today (really more a thick sticky resin). The smell is very subtle, earthy, not really something you can imagine standing out in a full composition much.
Different oakmoss preparations may smell differently, but this one reminds me very much of the actual raw material itself which is all over the forests where I live.
Given all the excitement about it among fragrance lovers, the material itself was initially quite underwhelming. Then I realised how tenacious it is - you can't get the stuff off your skin! It's obvious why it's a base note now.

I own this and bought it on eBay USA, and I definitely smell the boozy absinthe note it smells like this old school gum drop with sugared wood. This eau de parfum, lasted 24 hours on my skin 15 hours of the 24 hours was a skin scent, but still it lasts and lasts and lasts, I also tested it in the highest heat for 3 hours and it did not even mark it, as if I still had it on, so this fragrance is so well built, and lasts and had to be scrubbed off. Not that it was projecting and radiating but still obviously still a scent on my skin after 109 degree hot yoga for 3 hours. Sweating. Very nice!

Found a small bottle at marshallls on clearance for $10. The opening smelled a lot like ck one shock for men which I already own and rarely wear. Maybe I’ll go back and buy it

Bought a bottle of the original drakkar noir a year or two ago. The opening is pure nostalgia. Brought me back to my teen years. What I didn’t remember was the dry down. I found it very far from the pleasantness of the opening turning into a quite overpowering sandalwood smell. How is the dry down of this one?

I just ended up with a more vintage bottle although bottled in 2004 of Drakkar Noir and I can certainly see differences with the more modern one. This is quite nice though! :)

Awesome review, Sebastian, thanks so much! Looking forward to it! About the Azzaro, I guess you meant the Intense, which is an EDP, right? There is no Azzaro pour Homme Parfum, or is there?
As with many of your videos which involve fragrances I have, smelling right now as I write the original Drakkar Noir, as well as the Azzaro pour Homme Intense.
PS. Same as you, early 50s here

I'm exactly your age, 51, and I absolutely remember when Drakkar Noir hit. I don't have the most pleasant memories of it. It marked the first time boys in school started bathing in cologne. You could smell people coming from down the hall, you could smell them from across the classroom. Haha! But it did two important things for me: it made me interested in colognes, and it made me look elsewhere for a signature scent (I wound up going with Xeryus Givenchy, which was a really good alternative to what Drakkar was doing, but sadly doesn't hold up today - in my opinion it has lost its magic). But I'm excited for the people who are excited about this. And although I'm a teacher now, I suspect I won't have to experience people dousing themselves with this scent (which is good since the intense version would probably take it to a new level - although now, having finished the video, sounds like intense is actually softer than the original).
You inspired me to get a bottle of Ambre Precieux, I can't imagine a better scent (yet, I'll keep trying). Also loving Chypre Mousse, and just excited in general to be super getting into frags now, thanks to you and the community, but I am likely to take a pass on Drakkar. =) Keep up the great work!

I was looking forward to this review of course to get your take comparing to DN. I'm in your generation, an 80s guy. I think I still have one of my skinny ties in a drawer somewhere. One of my most traumatic memories from the era is when my Members Only jacket was stolen.
I have not tried any of the DN flankers nor the original. Of course I have a bottle which I purchased around 2000 and the juice is still good.

I wore Drakkar Noir in the late 80s. It was ok, heavy. But then a friend started wearing it and I didn't like the way it smelled on him and I could no longer enjoy it. But i'd like to sample it (and Intense) because I'm curious.

I think I switched to Lagerfeld Photo in 1990 after wearing Drakkar in the 1980's, but continued wearing CK's Obsession until Halston Catalyst for men arrived on the scene. Pierre Cardin Musk was also terrific.

They still have the original drakkar roll on oils which smells stronger and better than noir, it's a soap smell that's fresh.

So is this based off of drakkar noir from 82? Or the original drakkar from 72? I thought it was suppose to be a flanker off the original.

I remember when "Drakkar Noir" was much thicker than it currently is, i.e. thicker because of all of that oak moss which they used to put in it. I'm glad to hear that a new flanker of "Drakkar" is thick. Also, I've been thinking that vanilla and/or booziness is being used to replace oak moss (in modern perfumery in a lot of fragrances) as something which can make a fragrance have good overall performance and/or thickness: "Drakkar Intense" seems to be another example of that (at least in regards to thickness).

    • @joe19912
