Sabriel got me before Castiel even showed up. In Mystery Spot, at the end, when Sam is begging Gabriel to bring Dean back and hits Gabe full force with the puppy dog eyes... and Gabriel just gives in and sends Sam back to that Wednesday. Ugh. My shipper trash heart is always looking for a reason to ship, and that moment was it for me.

what made me ship Sabriel so much was that in Mystery Spot (the episode where Gabriel makes Sam watch Dean die everyday) Sam would wake up to the song "Heat of The Moment" and the very first lines of that song (although not played in the show itself) are this:
"I never meant to be so bad to you
One thing I said that I would never do
A look from you and I would fall from grace
And that would wipe this smile right from my face"
I think that was where Sabriel became more of an OTP than just a ship for me. Also in Changing Channels (where he reveals who he is) he's just trying to show Sam that he can't fight he. He can't win. Gabe had been hurt so many times by his brothers and he just wanted to make it stop, but he never could. That's really all that that episode was, Gabe trying to tell Sam and Dean that they couldn't fight it because he never could.
So then in Hammer of The Gods (the one where it's revealed he is not only The Trickster and Gabriel, but he is also Loki) he saves the Winchesters. He picks a side. He tells them how to trap Luci in the cage. Of course Luci totally stabs Gabe, but I refuse to believe that Gabe is dead and that it is just another one of his clever tricks. I mean he's fake died before, he just made this one look really, *really* convincing. Even to to Luci, so that they wouldn't come after him.
All in all I think that Gabe is looking out for Sammy, always has been.
OMG, all of this! I remember being so upset that Sam hardly interacted with Gabriel in HotG, but I still remember the eye contact and the little nod and it's like. Gabriel is doing this for Sam.
That song, OMG that song, I haven't been able to hear that song and not think of them together since I downloaded it after the episode.

Another thing that I noticed in HotG is that when Sam and Dean are escorting Kali out of the room you can clearly see Gabriel watch Sam, like he's trying to say goodbye, know he wasn't gonna leave that room alive (or at least not till Luci left and then he sneaks away into hiding)

Following in the same vein of underrated ships and every Winchester needed an angel, my favorite ship is one of the smallest ones out there. I adore midam, the pairing between Michael and Adam Milligan.
I've been in this fandom for almost 5 years and I never. understood. how. Sabriel was ever a thing. This video finally gave me some answers, thank you! That explains why I would see these two next to Dean/Cas so often. uwu

Sabriel is my SPN OTP. I like Destiel, but I LOVE Sabriel. And I can see many reasons. Their flirting interaction as Gabe disguised as a janitor. The fact that Gabe tries, in his own verrry odd way, to help Sam. Or the fact alone that "Heat of the moment" was waking Sam all the time...well yeah. I still have some hope left that they bring Sabriel back. I refuse to believe he is actually dead. Forever Sabriel Trash ♥♥♥

I started out as a Sabriel shipper. Well, I guess I really started out as a Wincest shipper because it was the most available when I got into non-gen fic. But when Castiel appeared, I thought for sure the main ship would become Sastiel because I saw so much there. It wasn't until the internet told me that I realized so many people saw more between Destiel.
But I went from Sastiel to Sabriel and I'm one of those people who doesn't even really remember how. It started as my guilty pleasure pairing because it was so small and different. But quickly became my OTP. Heck, the majority of my fic are Sabriel because they're the pairing that gave me the courage and motivation to start sharing my writing and joining in shipping communities. Still sad that it's so hard to find fic for them because they're always paired with Destiel and so many times Sabriel is just the side pairing.
I'm always bummed by the lack of Sam-centric pairings and fic in general because I love him so much and want him to have all the support/good things he deserves. So it was such a pleasure to see this video pop up. Thank you so much for doing one on them! Made a bad day into a good one!

FIRST OFF: In Tall Tales, (Aka the episode where Gabe is introduced) if you pay attention, Sam and Gabe can't stop staring at each other. Also just a thought to have, Gabe says "I had quite the night last night. Lots of sex, if you catch my drift." When he says the last part he looks Sam over. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Also in the Mystery Spot, Gabe did kill Dean over 100 times which is why some people tend to not ship it. But when they were talking he said "Sam, there's a lesson to learn from this.." (I'm not sure if that was the actual quote but something like that) ".. You can't save your brother." So in a way he was teaching Sam a lesson saying that Dean is gonna die and there's nothing Sam can do to stop it. So in a way he's trying to make Sam understand that so he doesn't get himself killed trying to save Dean.
And in Changing Channels Gabe does put Sam in a genital herpes commercial and hits him in the crotch. So I'm here like "Why is Gabe so obsessed with Sam's genitals?" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Also the girl doctor who kept slapping Sam, (Heh, Doctor Who) said "So what if that girl died on your table? It wasn't your fault, it wasn't anybodys fault, sometimes people just die." (Gabe is in control of all this so what if the doctor was Gabe in disguise) I know it may have been completely random but think about it. What if he meant Jess, that it wasn't Sam's fault that she died. And also "You're afraid to love." AND ALSO "I love you." (I've been doing my research okay lol)
And in Hammer of the Gods, (Aka the one where Gabe "dies") if you PAY ATTENTION, you see that as Gabe is in front of Sam and Dean and Kali, he looks back at Sam and only Sam before they leave.
⚠ SPOILER ALERT ⚠
In season 13, Gabe has been tortured by Asmodeus all these years. Ketch rescues Gabe from Asmodeus and takes him to Sam and Dean. When Ketch brings out Gabriel and shows him to the boys, it shows Sam first, you can just tell by the look on his face-- **squeals in the corner**
ALSO Sam takes out Gabe's stitches with a tiny blade. So NOT ONLY did Gabe let Sam come near him with a sharp object, but he trusted Sam to help him. A L S O when Sam is taking out his stitches, Gabe keeps looking up. (Idk about you guys, but that's normally what I do to keep myself from crying) And if you look, you can see that his eyes are watering. Dean and Ketch leave to apocalypse world and Sam stays with Gabe.
AND THE NEXT EPISODE, Sam is talking to Gabe, (even tho Gabe isn't talking) and Sam says "Jack, your nephew needs you, the world needs you, we need you. Gabriel, I need you." (Doesn't that sound familiar with a certain angel and hunter? "We need you. I need you." ~Dean to Castiel) Gabriel doesn't say anything and continues to not make eye contact. If you look closely you can see that Sam's eyes are watering. And as Sam's about to leave, Gabe talks. "Porn stars." (You were expecting something more weren't you? Lol, it's Gabriel, what did you expect?) So he pretty much redeems himself, it's super badass. His eyes glow blue, it shows his wings, and he burns that KFC man extra crispy. (Crispier than Mary Winchester) **sneeze** What? Anyways, so Gabe ditches when Sam and Cas ask him to help them. (Which is understandable considering he was tortured for years)
So he shows up a few episodes later, he's injured from a fight with a demi God, and Sam patches up his wounds. Also Gabe said to Sam "Don't let anybody ever tell you you're just a pretty face." He called Sam pretty. (Excuse me whist I fangirl) Sam doesn't really even say anything. So after they kill the rest of the demi gods, Gabe decides to join Team Free Will.
AND THEN HE FUCKING DIED AGAIN ONE EPISODE BEFORE THE FINALE AND THERE ARE NO HINTS WHATSOEVER OF HIM STILL BEING ALIVE
But I have theories. There's an AU Michael and an AU Cas, so wouldn't there be an AU Gabriel? 🤔

Sam has been underdeveloped character for a really long time now. So much time has passed and his arcs still seem to focus on how he didn't want to hunt, but was forced to and now there's no return - arc which was first introduced in season 1! Dean's arc in earlier seasons was relationship with his dad and his black and white morality and we don't hear about it much anymore because he dealt with those things, changed because of them and moved on to the new arcs.
Also, practiacally every relationship Winchesters have with recurring side characters are more of Dean realtionships: Castiel, Charlie, Gabriel, Jo, Kevin, Bella, Chuck, Claire, I could go on. The only character I can think of that is more Sam's than Dean's is Jody and it's really evened out.
And of course it leads to unhealthy realtionship between Dean and Sam, because that makes Dean literally the only person Sam can turn to.

I have always been a Sam girl. Mostly because I just want him to be happy but like you said, he gets the short end of the stick. Dean gets all the glory, even from Sam himself. This is why I ship Wincesst and Sabriel. Wincest because Dean is probably the only person in cannon that idolizes Sam and wants to take care of him as much as I do. And Sabriel because a high ranking angel looking out for you is always a great protection.

I read a criminal!Lucifer (Samifer) fanfic once and it was great. There was the dark and bad side of Lucifer but also a loving side (wich I see as his Angel side before he fell) that he showed to Sam.

I actually started shipping sabriel after mystery spot, I always thought that interaction of Gabriel trying to help Sam was ship worthy and I have always liked when the ship between a more serious and quiet character paired with a character who's all jokes mostly because it reminds me of my own relationship. the adorable fanart and fanfic is a plus as well.

I fell out of the Supernatural scene sometime around season 9 or 10 if i remember correctly. I still really love Sabriel though! Even more so because Destiel's not really my thing anymore. The less than great thing about Sabriel is that because it was born from Destiel, it's really hard to find fics where it's the main ship. It's more often that it's just a side pair. Let Destiel be the side ship for once lol
I love Gabriel. He is, together with Lucifer, my favorite chracter; not just in Supernatural. I ship Sabriel really hard and while I don't know when I started shipping it, I sure do know why - I love reading fanfic's and I've always felt that I didn't see enough of Gabriel on the show, so I wanted to read something with him as the protagonist, and boom, there was Sabriel.
And I will never stop believing that he will come back, someday. I mean, come on _ Richard is more than willing, has the time for it, the fans begged for this for years; at this point it would be kinda rude to not bring him back.

Sabriel is my absolute OTP and no offense but I really resent the sentiment that Sabriel shippers come from Destiel. I don't really ship Destiel and never had, just kind of flow with it but Sabriel is my absolute favorite ship, and has been since I started watching. I know I'm not the only Sabriel shipper who really doesn't give a rip about Destiel.
After the recent episode, this ship is finally on board again!!!
But as for my point of view on this ship, I have always had a soft spot for it. I am perfectly aware that Sam and Gabriel don't talk that much (but I mean, come on. That one interaction in season 2 could NOT have just been "average.") I know that before "Hammer of the Gods," these two never really had anything, considering Gabe would mess up and cause pain to Sam, despite Gabe having good intentions.
And I like this ship to be aware that even if Sam and Gabe don't talk much, they still have similarities, and I personally hope that because of the latest episode, Sam can finally form a friendship that our fellow archangel.
As a Gabriel RPer, I was thrilled when he came back recently, giving me more gifs and more material to use with my Sam \o/

I think your video is pretty much on point X3 I actually started with shipping Destiel which I don't so much anymore because fandom fights piss me off and I never really shipped Sabriel but as you mentioned, included them in my very first Destiel fanfic and while writing the characters I realized how perfect they fit together because they are so different, which I love about ships, and it was so much fun to write them that I started shipping them and now it's my favorite SPN ship. I don't think there is much canon base for this ship except maybe WHY didn''t Sam want to kill him. That scene seemed a bit odd and his explanation a bit made up but well XD I really hope to see some more Sam/Gabriel interaction on the show soon. =')

I love Sabriel! I didn't get into Supernatural until after 8 or so seasons were on Netflix (so it didn't take long to binge watch a few seasons) and since I don't read much het, incest isn't my favorite, and I hadn't gotten to Cas yet, it was one of the first pairings I looked for in the series (as a side note, it's a very good thing I don't mind spoilers, because, yeah, there are so many in the fanfiction about these two!)

I am glad you brought up the book Sabriel, because I didn't even know people shipped Sam and Gabriel until I was trying to see if Garth Nix had expanded upon the the series and I wanted my own copy of the book. I read it about 13 years ago. Then I kept asking myself why people even shipped the two, he only spent one episode with his attention on Sam.

Aww, my art was featured here, what a surprise. Sabriel is ship for me, but it was indeed wery perplexing how it came to me. I have been in the fandom since the beginning, Destiel first ship I was invested. But Sabriel is a whole another passion. It's always a bit awkward explaining it to someone new, especially when Gabe just got back in the series and there are bucnh of new folks that don't know Sabriel has a been thing all along xD Sure it was based on very little in terms of direct canon, but I genuinely think that it's ability withstand without any new material for so long is a proof that is truly as inspiring :)
I would be fascinated to see your take on Beecher/Keller from Oz, a pairing that has outlasted the source material by, at this point, nearly 15 years. Super complicated cannon ship that would give you lots to explore and discuss,

I love Sabriel
Sabriel might actually be taking over as my favourite ship for the series just because it lacks the stress and angst that comes with Destiel. I was one of these WTF people when I first learned of Sabriel through a friend. While I'd seen Sam and Gabriel's interaction in Gabriel's first episode [Tall Tales] as flirtatious, I pretty much put that down to Sam just trying to get information in the same way Dean tended to do. It wasn't until much later and with a lot of decisions and consideration that I found a good argument for them as a couple. I've been a dedicated Sabriel shipper ever since.
Sabriel is my bread and butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like Gabriel and Sam could geek out together. Like rent every movie with angels in it, and point out inaccuracies in the movies. Sam would have his head in Gabriel's lap, Gabriel running his hand through Sam's always soft hair.
Gabriel pranking Castiel, dean, and sam. (Because it's been YEARS since they have genuinely smiled! Someone needs to fix that!)Which would probably start random prank wars in the bunker? Someone (Sam or Castiel)would probably make those a permanent thing after really hard hunts. Or maybe playing Guitar Hero?
I miss Gabriel so much! And I just made up these headcanons and he needs to be back on the show! He has one more trick, and who else is gonna keep an eye on Cas (besides the Winchester family)? Also, Gabriel needs to lecture Cas for his last stunt. But also be proud. Because Sam and Dean are special. Then he poofs them to the bunker or the house. Sam and Dean look at Cas and Gabe in shock. Sam is the first to react after a few minutes or seconds have gone by. He grabs Gabe by the hand, maybe to talk outside? Or another room? Sam yells and cries a lot. Gabe lets him for two reasons. 1. Sam is a really good arguer when he's right. and 2. He deserves it. They hug, love confessions are made, a heated makeout session is had, but before it can go farther Sam pulls away to yawn. And Gabe can't help but think it's the most beautiful thing he's seen. He feel's sam get off his lap and cuddle into him putting his head on his shoulder. Gabriel wraps an arm around his waist pulling him closer. Sam lets out a content sigh. He whispers into Gabe's ear: "I love you, Gabe." His heart stops beating and time seems to freeze. Gabe didn't know he could love anyone after cali. But then came Sam and all bets were off. Every decision always had him in mind. Time un-froze and his heartfelt fluttery. So this is what love feels like. "I love you to kitten."
So I have alot of feels? I blame tumblr for evolving my love for made up characters.

For me with sabriel, I stumbled upon it in a destiel fic as a more side ship, then I realized it was rather cute, I had not "met" Gabriel yet. Basically then it goes, I met Gabriel, my brain screamed ship.

You hit the nail on the head with this video :D I fell into shipping Sabriel for really no reason and then I couldn't stop. It's been a while since I've consumed anything with them lately but this video made me remember why I love the ship in the first place. Oddly enough as well I was trying to explain to my mom about Sabriel recently because she didn't understand why someone would put Sam with Gabriel. I hold out hope that Gabriel will return to the show because despite my grumblings I still watch it every season.

For me Sabriel has always felt like a bit of a spare pair, so i'd never read a Sabriel Fic, but I do love it when it's in the background of a Distil fic.

I think Sabriel is a really good ship and the two characters make a good pairing, they have chemistry and would be a pretty cute couple, but there just wasn't enought space for their relationship to develop in the episodes that had Gabe in them, and that's why there aren't many ship moments on the show. But as soon as you imagine them in a relationship is does make sense to ship them.

My second favorite Supernatural pairing is Sabriel but if I'm not reading Destiel. I like to read Dean/Gabriel or Debriel. The Numinous series by Scyllaya is amazing and brought me into this pairing.
