Watching as a child in 1955 was like he's beating the bad guys as a little girl it was still in black and white when I married in the sixties and reconnected after retirement last year. Seeing his blue eyes for the first time looking down at Kitty(that old saying gave me a case of the vapors). I've watched all 20 seasons s19 e3 what Mike said to Matt about how he looked at a woman.. Fine specimen of a man!!!!!
It was his first wife, and his wife and daughter died from a drug overdose a few years later at different times. His son passed away during the show. I just don't know how he had the strength to keep it together all those years.

The son he adopted, while married to his first Wife, died when he was about 58 from an illness, cancer I believe. It was said he cried for days after the death of his adopted son, because it all came rushing back to him. Too much to bear the loss of one's children. God gifted him with a wonderful second wife, and he adopted her son. I read where he said THIS marriage was the best part of his life, and they did stay married, "until death do us part." God gave him this wonderful woman and marriage, late in life. He was blessed.
