I have owned my Halcyon Green Classic 350 since April this year and after 52 years riding will simply say the best bike I have owned from 175s to 1200s of various makes from twins to 4 cylinders but this is my first ever single cylinder bike. Unless you must travel at over 70 mph this bike does it all and has never dropped below 100 per gallon here in the UK. Amazing value for money and very solidly built, but at the same time relaxing to ride and just puts a grin on your face, speed limits are not an issue on this bike, each ride is a joy no matter where you are going. 😊
I've got the same and bought at the same time. A wonderful everyday bike that is a pleasure to ride. Love it. I've a 1200 GSA in the garage as well but riding the classic 350 tops it. 👍🏻
I got my Classic 350 in Halcyon Grey just under a week ago. She's bloody lovely. As a shortie (5ft 2in) I'm on tiptoes, but still feel quite safe and grounded. The sound is sublime, and the heads really do turn 😊😊😊
I bought mine around the same time and gave covered just under 3000 miles. As you say, the power is adequate and the bike is just an absolute hoot! Very enjoyable and I love it!
Own Halcyon Green variant here in India ... The bike is awesome... Can hold 80-90 kmph all day long while also returning 35+ kmpl ... Classic 350 was or is not about going fast... It was and is about the feel of motorcying which is unparalleled... The confidence that it exudes while riding is simply the best in its segment... The more one rides it , the more he/she is going to appreciate the simple yet high quality and robust nature and feel of it... It is a beauty...
Hi thanks for the comment. I agree totally with everything you say. These bikes get into your sole, you feel the ride so much they are like an extension of yourself, you become one with the bike. Ride safe, Dave.
I'm a 40 year old bike noob. I have a mortgage, two kids, a wife (and a puppy). When I hit the MANOPAUSE, I decided I wanted some escapism and decided to do a "taster" session at my local bike centre. In short, I absolutely loved it. After much research, and a trip to the Birmingham Bike Live show, I decided to invest in a 2023 Yamaha XSR 125 Legacy. Being 40, I have lived a bit and have weakness in my left leg following a car accident (muscle wastage and drop foot means it looks more like a kids arm than a middle aged blokes leg!). This meant weight was massively important to me. The retro 70's / 80's inspired looks on the Legacy, class leading engine, and the upright seated position all appealed to me. Not to mention the Yamaha man dealer network and reliability. Sure, its expensive for a 125 - I get that, but as a way into (hopefully) a new escape / hobby / lifestyle choice, it ticked all the right boxes for my ability. Over the next two years, I will go for my test and decide where the bike gods (and that pathetic leg) allow me to go next. I love the Royal Enfield 350 classic - but like I said, we will see on the weight situation. Excellent content as always, ride safe mate. Happy Christmas, and healthy New Year to all guys
Hi Simon, welcome to the mad world of bikers. Your new Yamaha is a fantastic bike. When you think about it ALL bike have an engine, 2 wheels and handlebars, other than that a lot of it is just show. Sure some will say its only a 125 and too slow, but who cares. When I started out it was a 50cc moped, I went all over on that, even touring holidays. Was it slow, dam right it was, but that let me see more of the countryside and the grin on my face was still massive. Enjoy you bike bike, enjoy the fun, freedom and grins it brings. I don't know what area you are from, but if you are in Yorkshire or Derbyshire areas and fancy a ride and a cuppa I will ride with you, a bike is a bike. Have a fantastic Christmas to you and your family and ride safe mate, Dave
I'm a skinny 63 year old bloke with a hip problem and recently sold my Honda Rebel 500 (CMX 500). Honestly, it suited me so well. Comfortable riding position, low weight (415 lbs) and that incredible Honda reliability. ABS, spoked wheels, plenty of power for cruising or the motorway. When you get your full license, the Rebel could be a great bike for you. There's also the Rebel 300 (CMX 300) but oddly, the 500 has far superior fuel economy. Anyway, just my two penneth worth and good luck with whatever you decide on.
This was a sensational review. The switchgear portion and evaluation feedback were just great. I am looking at a bronze/ chrome model and your review has pushed me over the edge to buy it. Thank you sir. This is the true essence of motorcycling.
Excellent Video! I really enjoyed the Camera Work and Commentary. My 1st Bike was a French Made 50cc Mobylette in 1968. In 1970 I bought a ROYAL ENFIELD 350 Bullet, Both these bikes were " Fixer Uppers " . The Royal Enfield was made in the mid 50's in England. When you are " Financially Disadvantaged" like I was , being still in High School at the time, you learn how REPAIR and MAKE THINGS WORK again without spending a lot of money. That Royal Enfield taught me a lot about the mechanics of a Motorcycle. I managed to get it road worthy for short trips in the area I lived in. I always thought I Iwould have liked to have had one in Really Good Reliable Condition. I am myself Very partial too and love the old Classic Single Cylinder THUMPERS from back in the day! The Royal Enfield Bullet my Classic Favorite.!! Your Video took me back to another time indeed!!
Congratulations, simply spectacular your video. I'm Brazilian, and here Royal Enfield is only 5 years in the country. However it is already the second most sold brand in number of units. The Classic 350 model is selling a lot, we are already seeing many on the streets and highways. Excellent bike. Subscribed to you channel.
What a brilliant review. I have fallen in love with this bike. I have an Interceptor 650 and rather than going for more power and speed for my second bike it will definitely be a Classic 350 which has character and charm that much faster bikes can only dream of. The only problem is deciding which colour to choose as they are all absolutely gorgeous. I think that as I already have an Interceptor with metal casings that require regular polishing to keep them looking great I’m tempted to go for Stealth Black. I think it will be a great stablemate for my Interceptor. I’ve subscribed to your channel which is great👍
I'm very confused bw the two(classic & interceptor). I was all set to buy the Inti but then I test rode both, the classic felt so easy going & relaxed. Which one would be better for longer rides apart from the performance? Will installing touring seat & handlebars make the inti comparable to the Classic in terms of comfort?
Im new to riding, got the classic 350 gun metal grey last September, this is my first motorcycle, and I really love going out on it. I have only a learner permit and waiting to do the test. Im 51 and wish i had started sooner but really having a great time. Great to hear from an experienced rider, thanks for the review.
Hi thanks for commenting. Welcome to biking, once it gets into your system you have it forever. You have picked a really good bike, it will give you loads of happy rides. Good luck with your test. I have some riding technique videos coming soon. Ride safe, Dave
Nice to see a bike being used. I have a Meteor 350 still running in. I've returned to biking after many years and love the Meteor. Bought second hand with 730 miles.
Hi, welcome back to the mad family of bikers. The Meteor is a lovely bike, I almost got one instead of the Classic. I've been riding since I was 16 and this is one of the best bikes I've had. Enjoy it, ride safe Dave
Thanks for the video . I get 92 mpg from my 350 meteor so very happy . Tyres are fine , too . Also I cruise around everywhere at 60mph on a 16 tooth sprocket, lovely and relaxed
I also have a Classic. You talked about wind blast...I can recommend the stock windshield. It's nice and short, yet still does an amazing job of keeping the wind off your chest. And, it also looks the part. I love it, and I love the bike. I also have a Meteor 350. Love it as well.
Good to know it’s still running great with 6000 miles , mine has about 900 miles so far (halcyon gray) . I love it so far .❤ I’m in Butte MT. Can’t ride for a while , it’s Dec 17 today .
When it gets to 2000 miles the bike will be fully run in, and you will see just how damn good this little bike is. Not fast, not powerful but a great riding experience.
@@morrisminor56 the only thing to remember is allow more time for your journey, not due to slower speed but because of every one talking to you about the bike. Ride safe, Dave
@John Willard The Classic 350 looks like the British bikes used to look on the good ol' days on which Evel Knivell started his riding life. I guess riding one of those machines on the town he was born gives another layer of charm to a bike that is already all about charm. Enjoy your machine and don't try to jump over cars and other stuff on her. 😉 All the best from Brazil. ✌
Great review, I'm really wondering how much longer I can go without one of these in the garage! Been a biker all my life, now at 60yrs old my needs are modest, done nearly 500,000 bike miles in my life and owned countless bikes. These little beauties seem to have so much going for them! cheers, all the best, Tony.
Great review, always prefer watching reviews from owners rather than someone who has the bike for a few hours , I'm a big fan of smaller bikes, am at the age where I have no desire for a silly fast bike anymore, currently have a CB500X which is excellent and a 125cc Suzuki Address which is great for my 9 mile commute, watched your review as I will probably replace the 125 when it's two years old with the Hunter 350, the classic looks nice though. Thanks for putting the review together
You've really chosen a lovely one there - nice colour scheme. Your observations about the chain are the same as mine - clean and lubricate and it'll last indefinitely. Like you I think the tyres are very predictable - not had any problems. Royal Enfield have kept these bikes straightforward and uncomplicated. That's why they appeal so much. Great assessment., Dave.
@@thatblokeonamotorbike It was encouraging to hear what you have to say regarding the tyres, especially as you are a very experienced motorcyclist. My bikes had Avon speedmasters(front) and safety mileage (rear) so that's all I have to compare with. I feel like the motorcycle equivalent of Rip van Winkle as I have missed 40 years of change so to me my Meteor with electric start and indicators is rather advanced... 😂 It even has fuses! Unheard of on my previous bikes! (All British). Two of my friends, Heather and Julia have also been enjoying your Dales/Lakes rides as they know the area around the Cow and Calf having lived in Leeds, Bradford, Guiseley etc. I'm originally from Hampshire so it's all new to me. Peter
I am still deciding for this bike, doing some windows shopping etc. 15:03 . "Never fails to bring a grin to my face" thats really good feedback there! Thanks to that comment I an getting one step closer to buying it.... thanks gor sharing and gettings from Costa Rica!!!!
I have the 350 Classic Halcyon Black in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She's called black Betty 😉I have been riding bikes since '74 and I can honestly say that Betty is one of the best I have ever had. She brings a big smile to my face every time we go out and she has taught me that the riding pleasure is far more important than the speed or destination. I guess I have finally matured as a rider. Pushing on 9,000 kms now and loving it. Betty's definitely a keeper. Some awesome roads here and all year round riding 🙂
Chiang Mai also. Just done 650 km on a hired Hunter... Chiang Mai - Mueang Khong - Pai - Mae Hong son - Khun Yuam - Mae Sariang - Chiang Mai... Need go out next on a Classic.. I'm torn between the Hunter, Classic and Meteor.. Can't bloody decide.. I'm crawling around the Enfield showroom weekly 🤣 Can't find a Meteor to hire anywhere.. Have you ever seen one... 🤔 *Crap Game*
Hi David, all ways look forward to your videos, just traded in my Himalayan for a classic 350 same colour, picking it up in a few days, wish I had those lovely roads on my doorstep 😚 I live in London, have to travel a bit to find anything decent 😢
Hi, thanks for the lovely comment. I'm sure you will love the Classic 350. I do feel privileged to have such good roads so close to me. Let me know if you get up to Yorkshire area, I know some brilliant roads. Ride safe, Dave
Hi Dave, great review, and would fully concur with your summary, I have the identical bike, but only covered 2K miles. never had a false neutral, I'm pleased to say, did have the speedometer replaced, after it suffered with the well documented "sticking" My local dealer , Manhatten, in Sheffield sorted that very quickly, no problem! Bike's safely tucked up for the winter now, ( while I get a hip replacement!) Ride safe!
Hi Peter, I haven't had any issue with the Speedometer other than a little condensation. Roll on spring for you and getting back on the bike. Hope the hip opp goes well for you. My lad got on to me about the music I listen to and my age.... I said to him when you are young you think about listening to Hip Hop, at our age you think about having a Hip Opp. Stay safe, Dave
I'm about to take a potential purchase look at a new Classic 'Stealth Black'. Returner after 40 years, and I've always loved thumpers over pocket rockets. Thankfully I live in The Lakes, so this'll be a perfect returner bike. I'm glad there's vids on practical component upgrades, as the bike will get a lot of work done on it after the warranty expires.
Just found this vid.Nice to hear Yorkshire accent.I live in NZ but I am from Sheffield .I am looking at the Classic 350 as a possible bike to down size to and found the info given very useful, cheers .
What the heck are the arrows painted on the road coming _at_ him as he rides, in the left hand lane?? 1:08 , 9:55 , 10:27 , etc. That would make me wonder if something was about to come at me driving from the opposite direction!
I have the same issue with upshifts from #1 to #2. The shifter tends to put it in neutral, not #2. Very irritating. Must be something I am doing when I up shift. I will say also that it is difficult to get my motorcycle boot under the shifter lever. I may adjust the shifter lever up a bit and see if that sorts it out. Otherwise, I really love this little bike. It is a joy. It remains to be seen if my T100 gets ridden much at all, now that I have this Classic 350. At age 73 this little bike is so much less intimidating.
Great bikes and a very accurate review. I agree with your tyre assessment as they give confidence and like you have never been as issue. Also the comments regards riding aids is something that chimes with me and the points you raise regards riders skill is very valid. It feels to me that these developments are driven by the constant reviews that seem to demand more and more and it drives the price up. I have a VFR 1200X that has nothing bar ABS and traction control and certainly does not require these fly by wire systems to allow you to safely enjoy the ride.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Riding the Classic 350 is like getting back to basics. I can remember taking my advanced test on Kawasaki KH125, passed it with no rider aids at all, the frame flexed, breaks were not good so you had to ride it, not just sit and let a computer do it! This really is showing may age lol, Ride safe, Dave
Ummm good honest review mate , from someone that's actually owned one and covered Some serious mileage rather than rode a press bike for a week and trotted out all the usual clichéd lines such as ' controls fall easily to hand ' well flipping obviously unless your a dwarf!! Re the mention of the long awaited 650 Classic...think we've all been led up the garden path on that one !! Take care 🙂
I love the look of this bike. Like something that run away from the 1940s. Leaning towards an Interceptor or Continental myself for the extra power for the motorway. If there were a Classic with the 650 twin it would make the choice even harder ....
Sorry for the late reply mate but its just become relivent for me. Just bought the red and chrome only got 60 miles on it so still running in . Thanks for your excellent 6000 mile review. Gear wise found its very much like my old 1965 BSA 250 box going from first to second . More of a feed it through the gears rather than stuff it through. Although its still a way better box obviously than old designed machines Removed the rear saddle and got a Chrome solo long rack coming. Understand why you went for the none chrome. If I had to commute id have gone for the Halcyon green as its a more practical finish. CE AT tyres are fine. My old Skoda Fabia had them and wear against grip was excellent. I think people fall for the if its not Avon , Dunlop etc its rubbish. Panniers next so going to check out your Lomo vid. Thanks again Lee the wrinkly
Hi Lee, you're right about tyre snobbery, I like the original tyres, they have gripped on all sorts of surface in all sorts of weather. I've done 10200 miles now in 11 months and they are down to about 2mm and time to change them. I just wish I could get the same again. Enjoy the bike, Ride safe, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike Had Metzler tyres on my Vulcan vn900 cruiser (630lbs) and they were very similar to CEAT as they do ones with a balance between grip and wear Plus not silly money.
I've spent too much time in the Philippines I got a house and I own a few I fell in love with the small low power motorbike and I was looking for something in the states kind of replicate the Honda 125 experience I had. I think this is the perfect bike
Great review! I have the 2022 RE350 like yours, except Halcyon Grey in colour (truly a light blue) - great machine. I have a big Harley and a Triumph, but I grab for the RE350 keys the most these days. Keep up the good work, Cheers, Ronny in Canada.
Hi, the Meteor is a lovely bike as well. I was out on mine today, very cold but blue sky and dry, it would have been criminal not to get out on the bike. Ride safe, Dave
A lot of appreciation has already been made both about the bike and your review. I would like to emphasise on the line where you mentioned that you never needed a rev-meter and always relied on what the engine is saying. I loved the point because as a fellow rider I also do the same, I own an Apache but only refer the meter for the fuel level and nothing else on the screen matters to me or I take a look into while riding... great review...
I aim to get this beautiful classic bike in the near future... As I just bought a (Zontes G1 125 Scrambler) which I'm very happy with. I have had the larger 1000cc bikes in the past. But I actually wanted something smaller to travel with, and to enjoy the scenery at a slower pace. With great gas mileage. That's why the G1 Scrambler is a rather nice bike. I do find that a need just a tad more power. I love the classic look of this Royal Enfield, it's right down my alley, and the engine sound is just perfect! Definitely in my sights!! Thx so much for sharing your personal experience. Just to cruise on the "Royal Enfield Classic 350" would be extremely exciting !! Safe riding sir 👍
Cracking review Dave. I'm looking at one of these for my first grown up bike. At 53 and being pretty steady by nature, this seems to tick all the boxes. ...plus i sat on onevat my local dealership and was sold 😄👍
brill review! with regards to the chain complainers, I have a bought new 2021 Himalayan which i have used for my small 16 mile return commute to work, i have ridden it through 2 winters now but fitted from new an electronic PD oiler £125 and i only had to do one minimal chain adjustment in 6000 miles..its all down to chain maintenance and proper lubrication..the way my chain is going, it should last me at least another 18 months 😁 new sub for you mate 👍 was going to trade in my 2022 650 interceptor for a new super meteor, but i think i will keep it and add my 3rd RE to my stable as a 350 will be enough for me at 56yrs lol (had bikes since i was 21 yrs old and LOVE them still)
I had a Street Triple for over 3 years but in the end found the high revving nature got to me. Now after a year on the Classic 350 I can honestly say this is my favourite bike in 53 years of riding. Each ride puts a grin on your face, plus 105 mpg. 😊
I sat on a Meteor 350 at the bike show (Nov 23) and I don't think I have ever sat on a more comfortable seat. They remind me of the Suzuki TU250 which is already viewed as a modern classic. I forecast the Meteor 350 will go a similar way.
At 13:13. I also have the same thing with mine. An all of sudden acceleration on first and it will not kick into 2nd gear but give neutral. Accelerate appropriately and it will give second gear always. I have no problem with this. I think it’s a good thing actually as this bike is about smiles per hour not mph. I have chrome bronze bought recently, can’t get the grin off my face when I ride.
Hi, thinking abut it, has Royal Enfield put a devise in the bike to slow us down and appreciate the ride more? I think they could have as I can't stop grinning when riding mine either! Ride safe, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike thanks mate. Wouldn’t be surprised. Just as slight vibration is there purposely as part of the classic experience. Ride safe to you as well.
I wish more motorcycle reviews were done in this style - no gloss, sales patter or misplaced enthusiasm - the Ronseal of bike channels and that's a compliment to you- your right that most of the reviews aren't in any way thorough- nor could they be with such short tests - and likely incentives by dealers! I'm definitely considering going down the RE route for my next ride - problem is that (aside from the meteor) I really like their entire lineup. *re edited as thinking one thing while typing something entirely different but the analogy still stands 👍
I agree totally with you on the riding aids taking the skills out of the rider you don't need all that. If you do need all of that maybe a car would be a better for you.
I like the sound of the Ceat tyres. They would be more than adequate for my needs and would hopefully be much cheaper than the big name brands. The last set of trye I bought (£315 a pair) picked up a puncture within 2 months. Thankfully it was on the rear, in a position where it could be plugged. I always feel bikers are their own worst enemy with the "needs more power" and "needs stickier tyres" BS....
Hi, I agree, I have commuted to work all through winter and never had any issues with Ceat tyres. there is a limit to usable power in real road riding and the Classic 350 is very close to it. Last weekend I did about 50 miles on motorways to get to the good roads in North Yorkshire, it was cruising at 65 to 70 MPH even overtaking slower traffic. Ride safe, Dave
I notice mine doing the same. From 1st to N. I've changed the gear lever to heel-toe one and bump it from first to second with more travel. Just the lever needs more travel from 1st directly to 2nd in my opinion.
Hi - I'm not a RE 350 classic owner, but can add to the 1-2 false neutral discussion. It's a fairly common problem with many bikes:- either from new when it gets better as the engine breaks in; or conversely gets worse with milage,; or can be an inherent problem due to design or machining errors. One short term solution might be to "double tap" the lever when changing up:- Attempt to change up to 2nd as per normal without using excess foot pressure / force until hitting nuetral Then at the same time and while still holding the clutch lever in, (to let the gearbox internals settle) lift the gear change lightly to see if it'll click properly into 2nd - double tap. It might be like HD's where it gets better with use Or it might need a recall and a modification to the selector drum & forks
Enjoyed the video very much, very honest and I concur completely about the condensation and preloads being extremely difficult to adjust with or without pannier rails. Many years ago I had a BMW R80 RT that had small handle extensions on the adjusters, a total joy to use and can't understand why this is not the industry norm👍.
Hi, I had a BMW R80RT twin shock and that had the adjustment handles on each shock. I have wanted them on all bikes | have had since then. Ride safe, Dave
Good video. Being a Yank, at times, I was having a little trouble understanding you but I take some responsibility. You see I'm in my 70's and my hearing isn't what it used to be.
Hi, thanks for you comment, sorry you cant grasp everything I say, it' my Yorkshire accent. Hope it doesn't detract too much from the videos, Ride safe, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike I have some trouble understanding you blokes sometimes, but I heard you loud and clear. As Bill above said, he (and I) have hearing losses. I turn up the volume and it comes through for me. I really liked this video. It's not a giggle fest or silly or wildly exuberant, which gets tiresome for me. Just explained as smoothly as you ride the little Classic. I'd love to have one but I'm old and poor. I may have to finally sell an asset I've held for 20 years. I notice you take quick stabs at disengaging the clutch to shift- on your shift 1st to 2nd if it's dragging it could drop into neutral, go for a full pull back to the bar. Liked your video, thanks for posting!
@@timcarter7616 Hi Tim, clad you enjoyed the video, I have more coming so keep tuned. Like you I get tired of the video's when they over do the enthusiasm. Well balanced and informative review, I would have liked to have seen the pannier frames. Let us all know how many miles you get out of the tyres and chain when they finally need changing.
For reference, I keep a record of my fuel and odo readings on my Meteor (same engine) and have averaged under 3L/100km over 9000kms, even when driven hard.
It's a trap for beginners! LOL You were using US gallons which are much smaller than the UKs imperial gallons. The correct figure for 3L/100km is 94mpg(imp). The 350 motor is very frugal and I regularly better 100mpg and a 450km range with the 14L tank on the Meteor
@@andrewoh1663 Sounds right. That's what I'm getting on my 2020 500 Bullet in town and on the narrow country roads around here at about 40-45mph. Start pushing it to 60+ and fuel consumption drops to about 65-70 mpg. I had difficulty in believing it was that good until I'd measured it a few times. Recorded mileage is now just short of 10K from the day I bought it new.
Hi Chris, I just told it as it is. It's a bike I can's stop riding and the grin it brings is something else. One word of warning though.... be ready for it taking a lot longer to get anywhere, not due to lower speeds, but EVERYONE will be talking to you about the bike. Which is brilliant. Ride safe, Dave
Nice to see you out and about Dave, in all weathers. The bike is looking good. You mentioned about the new Classic 650. Is that a definite now, or just a fantasy.
Hi Dave, I was meaning the BSA 650. If RE brought out a 650 single I might have to sell a Kidney and get one! Maybe someone at Royal Enfield will see this and make us one, that would be a fantasy come true. Ride safe mate, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike Ah, I see. Not keen on that BSA but then I am old enough to have seen plenty of the original ones back in the 60s, even though I was only a kid. Don`t like the look of the radiator or the fat exhaust and it sounds like a milk float with a dodgy big-end. I will pray for that RE 650 Classic. My kidney is ready. Cheers Dave.
Nice review. Would you consider it capable of a multi week several thousand mile trip? Thinking of buying one for a trip across the US. At modest speed, obviously.
Hi Garry, I do wish they had put a kickstart on the new Classic 350. There is nothing like swinging the kickstart and hearing it burst into life. And points, they do the job and Ok might not be as reliable as electronic ignition, but are easier to replace and cheaper than electronic. But with new emission regulations it has to be ECU controlled now. When I retire in 18 months I'm considering an old classic bike so I can relive my youth tinkering with points, link-life on the chain and getting dirty.! Ride safe, Dave
I own a Royal Enfield Gun metal grey and in love with this bike.. Smooth (zero vinrations) Low maintenance Cruise speed at 90-110 Km/Hr Milage 35-40 on Highway Great breaking with ABS Comfort rides... 4000 Kms down 😊
Hi, thanks for sharing your thought on your bike, and well done on 4000kms. If yours is like mine the more you ride it the more you love it. Ride safe, Dave
Lovely report, thank you! The thing I perhaps like the most with bikes like this - not to big, relaxed and simple with a classic design - is that they tend to blend in on the scenic backroads I love to ride. Modern nakeds seem to mimic alien insects more often than not, and as a result stand out like pimples in nature, contrary to the organic shape of the classic motorcycles, regardless of when they were made.
After owning this model for 2 months its definately a good bike for the money , it lacks power in acceleration & mid range which can be sorted with a air filter/decat pipe that will be my next step
Hi, thanks for the comment, they are very good bikes, I think Royal Enfield have got it just right with looks, sound, ride quality and fun factor in all their bikes. I was looking a the Meteor but in the end it was the riding position that swung me to the Classic. Ride safe, Dave
I bought my Halcyon Green Classic 350 at the end of November so have only had limited opportunities to ride it as I don't want to expose it to road salt so early in its life and I'm a soft Southerner! That said, I've managed to get in the first 300 miles and I'm loving it. The riding position is exactly what I've always wanted on a bike (and I've had everything from sports bikes to "adventure tourers"). I would also agree about the tyres, they grip well and give good feedback - and that's been on very wet and slippery roads. Really looking forward to spring and summer now!
Hi kevin, I agree, I have owned or ridden loads of bikes and the Classic 350 put a smile on my face every ride. I have ridden mine most of the winter so far, when I get back from a ride i wash all the muck off it. Lots of wax to start with hopefully will keep it looking good. Defo roll on spring, Ride safe, Dave
13:50 I also faced the similar problem when I try to do "quick shift" between 1 and 2. I thought I was the only one with this issue. Switching between other gears is smooth and reliable. But only between 1st and 2nd it behaves differently.
Hi, I find that if it shift early it never does it. It feels that when the revs are high it cant select second gear. I put it down to character in the bike, ride safe, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike sounds like you may have a bit of clutch drag going on there. If the gears won't mesh it often means they're still turning at a rate of knots. ie the clutch isn't disengaging fully Is it ever difficult to find neutral?
I also have the classic 350, and had the 1st gear to 2nd gear false neutral problem described. Great to hear it's not just me! No solution yet but I found just keeping gentle upward pressure on the gear lever until I've let off the clutch guarantees I avoid neutral. I'll test the other solutions here too
Hi Dave, nice vid again, just to let you know we had temps at 24 this last 2 days ,so riding every day, in a mesh jacket! Can't agree more ,LOVE my Classic to bits would'nt swap for a NEW Ducati or BMW, had both in the UK, so know what gives, Cheers DINO.
Hi Dino, thanks for rubbing it in about the temperature, It's -4 outside and snow forecast for over the weekend. Thinking of you having to suffer riding in a mesh jacket lol. Ride safe, Dave
I enjoyed watching your video. I love the looks of the Classic 350 and the sound, thump thumo thump. I also like the riding position with your feet below you, not too foward and not too rearward. But I am looking to put a side car on a motorcycle and I think the 350 might be a little under powered for a sidecar. I am in hopes that RE will come out with a Classic 650, this would be ideal for a sidecar. Have you heard any news about RE coming out with a Classic 650?
Hi, I haven't heard anything about a Classic 650, but if they do I for one will be beating a path to the door. I know they have fitted a sidecar to the 650 Interceptor and that look really good. I have an older Indian home market Bullet 350 with a sidecar and that is a bit underpowered, although it has taken be all over the Langdale Pass, a over North Yorkshire and Derbyshire at a relaxed speed maximum out at about 40 to 45mph. Ride safe, Dave
Great review! You are the one with the highest mileage I found on TH-cam - so it’s good to see that these engines last more as a few 100 km as some suggested! Owning a HD Sportster 1200C from 2004 and a brand new Honda PCX 125 ( which now my girlfriend has an eye on…), but no car, I ask myself if the Classic 350 would be the right bike for me and maybe replace the Sportster… … or should I keep the big lump?
Hi thanks for the comment. I've been doing some maths today about the cost of each bike including insurance, tax and running costs. It made quite surprising reading. Ride safe, Dave
I have a 2001 Sportster 1200S. If RE bring out a 500 single I'd be tempted but I would never sell the HD, I get too much enjoyment riding and owning it.
@@splodge57 - riding it I agree… owning it is in my area a bit a problem, because Harley folks here believe that they are something better as the rest and let everybody know… People now put you in the same box equal if you are just a normal motorcyclist with a love for these twins or if you are one of these wannabes that only show off…
@@SkysaxonDragonslayer know what you mean but Ive owned too many bikes of all types and makes to be bothered by all of that. I ride the bike but dont wear the t-shirt.
Hi, thanks for your comment, they are really good bikes. I think I said in the video, since getting the Classic 350 my BMW R1150RT & Honda ST1100 haven't been out. Ride safe, Dave
I'm 64 years old; I'm considering trading in my 2002 BMW R1150R (with 14,777 mi.) for a Royal Enfield 350 Classic like yours... ( know I'll take a drastic loss trading it in; But my long distance Rally/ camping out weekends are over; and I'd like to have a bike like this to move around on...) We have dealership in my area nearby that sells BMW & Royal Enfield motorcycles; and My Bike is in "Jewel"condition... But I'm looking for something smaller & easy to use... Your video kind of reinforces a decision to make a change...
Hi Dave, a nice review and very much how I find mine. With regard to keeping the chain clean and lubricated I have fitted a Tutoro chain oiler to mine and it works great. The chain never seems to get dirty like it would with the spray on chain lube that just turns itself into grinding paste. I know what you mean about the weight of the BMW, my 1150 GS has stood unused in my garage for six or seven years, I am just too old for it now. Regards Edward.
Hi Edward, thanks for the info about the chain oiler, I'm going to have a look into it. I'm coming round more and more to selling the BMW and ST1100 as I just dont use them. Ride safe, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike Hi Dave, The Tutoro is better than the Scottoiler I have on my old iron Bullet. It doesn't need to be plumbed into a vacuum or electrically, it works on the motion of the bike. I can be fitted quite discreetly with a bit of care. Regards Edward.
Hi Peter, I agree with everything you say, Ride safe, Dave
Agree with you, except my T140E was my number 1 bike years ago. This is my 2nd best bike in 41 years of riding and my 4th R E.
Exactly why I am ordering one very soon.

I got my Classic 350 in Halcyon Grey just under a week ago.

I'm sold. Will be getting one here in the UK.
At 40 and taking up biking with kids in the house. One priority at a time.

The Classic 350 looks like the British bikes used to look on the good ol' days on which Evel Knivell started his riding life.
I guess riding one of those machines on the town he was born gives another layer of charm to a bike that is already all about charm.

Thats a really cool wedding idea in the story you shared at the beginning, will definitely be stealing that.

It even has fuses! Unheard of on my previous bikes! (All British).

I'm about to take a potential purchase look at a new Classic 'Stealth Black'. Returner after 40 years, and I've always loved thumpers over pocket rockets. @@thatblokeonamotorbike Ah, thanks for educating someone on UK road markings.
Re the mention of the long awaited 650 Classic...think we've all been led up the garden path on that one !!
Take care 🙂
I put a screen on mine ..really reduces the wind blast and much more comfortable on the motorway !
Although its still a way better box obviously than old designed machines
Removed the rear saddle and got a Chrome solo long rack coming.
Understand why you went for the none chrome.
If I had to commute id have gone for the Halcyon green as its a more practical finish.

Cracking totally informed review. Much appreciated. Thinking of selling my street triple and going for a more relaxing run. Serious contender.
I had a Street Triple for over 3 years but in the end found the high revving nature got to me. Now after a year on the Classic 350 I can honestly say this is my favourite bike in 53 years of riding. Each ride puts a grin on your face, plus 105 mpg. 😊
12:06 what a beautiful view
Hi thanks for commenting, it really is lovely around there, ride safe, Dave

Regarding the 1st to neutral issue, I got the gear lever height changed for my foot and never had any more issues with the 1st - neutral problem.
Hi, I adjusted the lever position to get my boot under it. I will try altering it a bit more and see if it helps. Thanks for the tip, Ride safe, Dave
Hi, I will have a look at moving the lever. Ride safe, Dave
One short term solution might be to "double tap" the lever when changing up:-
Attempt to change up to 2nd as per normal without using excess foot pressure / force until hitting nuetral
Then at the same time and while still holding the clutch lever in, (to let the gearbox internals settle) lift the gear change lightly to see if it'll click properly into 2nd - double tap.
It might be like HD's where it gets better with use
Or it might need a recall and a modification to the selector drum & forks
Love the picnic basket!
Indeed, even my BMW R50 from 1956 has these handles on the adjusters (as well as my BMW R60/5 from 1970). Where's the progress 🙂..
I like to just sit back, side and talk as though it's a conversation with friends.
Thanks again for the really nice comment
Have a good Christmas, stay safe, Dave
Well balanced and informative review, I would have liked to have seen the pannier frames. Let us all know how many miles you get out of the tyres and chain when they finally need changing.
totally the best bike i have ever owned
Great review of a great bike , my bronze gets more use than any of my other bikes
The noise seems better than the meteor. Authentic retro in every aspect.
For reference, I keep a record of my fuel and odo readings on my Meteor (same engine) and have averaged under 3L/100km over 9000kms, even when driven hard.
Hi, if my maths are right thats about 78mpg. I'm happy with that, and the grin is priceless. Ride safe, Dave
Really good honest review of the 350👍
Hi Chris, I just told it as it is. It's a bike I can's stop riding and the grin it brings is something else. One word of warning though.... be ready for it taking a lot longer to get anywhere, not due to lower speeds, but EVERYONE will be talking to you about the bike. Which is brilliant. Ride safe, Dave
this is so cool I also have 7000 miles on mine love my bike since august
Gorgeous colour - thanks for the review
Nice bike,
But for me The Pre Unit 350 and 500 Bullets did it for me.
Drum brakes,, points, and a kick Start were everything I wanted (and more!)
Smooth (zero vinrations)
Low maintenance
Cruise speed at 90-110 Km/Hr
Milage 35-40 on Highway
Great breaking with ABS
Comfort rides...
4000 Kms down 😊
Hi, thanks for sharing your thought on your bike, and well done on 4000kms. If yours is like mine the more you ride it the more you love it. Ride safe, Dave
Nice informative vid, I'm very interested in the 350 engine, and yes Bybre is Brembo (By Bre mbo)
Just found your channel. Really good content! Gonna binge all:)
Hi, welcome to the channel, let me know what you think of the videos, hope you enjoy them.
Hi, I agree, with the engine note and slower speed they fit in well. Ride safe, Dave
Love the landscape in your ride. Good review. I had REs in past.
Great review fabulous bike
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it, ride safe, Dave
The basket is really nice! 😁
Signing the papers on a Halcyon Grey on Monday. Can not wait.
After owning this model for 2 months its definately a good bike for the money , it lacks power in acceleration & mid range which can be sorted with a air filter/decat pipe that will be my next step
G’day, I ride a meteor 350 but love the classics also. Bloody good bikes 👍
Hi, thanks for the comment, they are very good bikes, I think Royal Enfield have got it just right with looks, sound, ride quality and fun factor in all their bikes. I was looking a the Meteor but in the end it was the riding position that swung me to the Classic. Ride safe, Dave
Thanks, that was a good and interesting review.
Good one - just traded my 650 Interceptor for one of these …much more relaxed 😊
I loved watching your video so much ❤
What you have says it all - just such a good bike to own 😊
Nice review, i'm currently waiting for the halcyon black to be available in my country so i can buy it
I bought my Halcyon Green Classic 350 at the end of November so have only had limited opportunities to ride it as I don't want to expose it to road salt so early in its life and I'm a soft Southerner!
You definitly chose the right color. The chrome versions seems a nightmare for everyday use 😅
Also cut your talons before you hurt someone 😃
Why a nightmare?
@@moonman8450 it requires polishing, just a greasy fingerprint and it no longer looks pretty.
I was going to get the red and chrome but then saw the Halcion Black and fell in love with it, Ride safe, Dave
If the gears won't mesh it often means they're still turning at a rate of knots. ie the clutch isn't disengaging fully
Is it ever difficult to find neutral?
I also have the classic 350, and had the 1st gear to 2nd gear false neutral problem described. Great to hear it's not just me! No solution yet but I found just keeping gentle upward pressure on the gear lever until I've let off the clutch guarantees I avoid neutral. I'll test the other solutions here too
Perfect Motorcycle! For commuting and cruiser!❤🎉
@@thatblokeonamotorbike Thank you for the reply.
Just curious, if you like the single cylinder engine and fancy something classic of a larger capacity have you considered the BSA ?
Great review!
You are the one with the highest mileage I found on TH-cam - so it’s good to see that these engines last more as a few 100 km as some suggested!
Owning a HD Sportster 1200C from 2004 and a brand new Honda PCX 125 ( which now my girlfriend has an eye on…), but no car, I ask myself if the Classic 350 would be the right bike for me and maybe replace the Sportster…
… or should I keep the big lump?
Hi thanks for the comment. I've been doing some maths today about the cost of each bike including insurance, tax and running costs. It made quite surprising reading. Ride safe, Dave
I have a 2001 Sportster 1200S. If RE bring out a 500 single I'd be tempted but I would never sell the HD, I get too much enjoyment riding and owning it.
@@splodge57 - riding it I agree…
owning it is in my area a bit a problem, because Harley folks here believe that they are something better as the rest and let everybody know…

That Picnic Basket looks like it belongs there, looks great, just the Job ;)
