It’s a 45 minute ride on the train to White Plains, I’ve got a full morning beverage, half a pack of cough drops, it’s dark….and I’ve got a fresh episode of TPS to watch. Hit it.
arriving at 125th just about now?
White Plains NY? Merrick NY native. Either way, take it easy killa.

Sunglasses?
Yes. Post gigs discussion on both of your boards would be very interesting.
This sounds like a fantastic super chat for VCQ.

let's not forget Dan designed his very own loop switching system to make this pedalboard. What a leg end

Thanks for the shout out guys. Simon here, hello :)
You’re an inspiration mate 🤓🙏 thank you
So happy to hear Dan play Red in the room. Y’all are my favorite cork sniffers, and I love you both dearly.
Funnily enough, I just removed the Cali 76 from my board after a year or so of fiddling around, just to go back to my trusty big yellow box Diamond compressor. The second I put if back on the board, I said.. "finally, the sound I've been looking for". 🍁
Of all the TPS videos; Dan and Mick’s own board videos are my favourite. Hats off to you both.
The way I tell a great musician is that my brain automatically switches from trying to work out what key they’re playing in to just listening and enjoying the experience in knowing that their music is automatically converted from their brain through the their soul and out of the fingers. Dan, you’re such a great player. Thanks for sharing all of your doodles and positive energy whilst you are fully submerged in the rabbit hole.
Thanks so much Jim, really appreciate it 🤓🙏
Separating the signals so you can dial in the wobbly things without losing your direct signal was a revelation for me and I have Dan & Mick to thank!!! TPS RULES!
It is so beautiful to witness the appreciation and admiration you both have for each other durng the show. One of you has a shwang and you can see the other just smiling to himself. Big love for you and your show. Learn so much from you and it is always inspiring me to pick up my guitar! 💫
Arguably my oldest pedal is my diamond comp I bought in Dartmouth NS back on my honeymoon 14 years ago. I’ve been using it as Dan has ever since. Other compressors have come and gone but that is a fixture for me
Aww shucks, I’m blushin’ here! Thanks guys, and awesome board, Señor Steinhardt. 👍
I love my Diamond Optical Compressor! Sounds so natural and warm. Never spikey. I did swap the original out for the smaller Jr.
I recently redid my board as well with a focus on fewer pedals that do more. Absolutely love OD pedals with multiple gain stages, toggle switches, etc. Also finally landed on a GFI Specular Tempus (MASSIVE shout out to Matt at Pedal Empire for his help getting me sorted on that!). My "challenge" to myself was that I have my sights set on a new Atom, so I had to limit to 7 pedals. I Marie Kondoed a couple gain stages that I liked but really were just different versions of the same thing, and honestly, it's the happiest I've been. Within a song, I have limited choice on gain stages (I generally don't like to bend down to toggle things during a song), but I can have some songs still have different gain structures. As with anything pedal (or life) related, YMMV, but thank you both so much for inspiring many of us to buy the ticket and take the ride :)
Everything is considered as you would expect from Dan, but that outro (chefs kiss emoji)... There have been so many TPS videos that end with epic outro solos, so here's quick and hopefully easy solution to YT shorts for you to produce Mick - Grab a few of these (one per video), throw a brief intro onto the front of the video for context and call it a YT and crowd pleaser, easy and awesome. Thanks for the constant inspiration D&M.
As a fellow tele player, Dan’s tones are so inspirational and brilliant. Really love when you guys show your boards and how you’re running them.
2 amps is such a joy. I run a split 4x12” top and bottom. Built a birch baffle for the inside. Both amps on its pure glory.
Dan, the maestro at play, what a joy to witness and sonically pleasing to one’s ears. Well done, Dan, and the best of luck with it and the hours of fun to transpire.
Cheers mate 🙏
5 months later I'm still trying to catch my breath after this deep dive, and especially the outro.
Kudos to you both, but especially Dan on this one.
Each time I convince myself that one of your videos simply cannot get any better you two continue to prove me wrong, leaving me speechless!
Many, many thanks!!! -E-
I use an EQD Swiss Things, not just for the loops and amp splitting, but for the transformer that’s on output 2. The boost circuit is pre transformer, and thus it can drive the transformer into saturation, and give that warm dynamic band pass effect that we typically associate with tubes.
What a show. It is so interesting to see how Dan uses his compressor, I shall be trying that out.
Mick, your facial expression, whilst Dan's using the filter during the playout, says it all.
I think that the only logical think to do is an hour of applause for Dan.. and maybe isn't still enough!
What an astonishing sounds!!
Well done sir, it's simply amazing!!!
Ah, cheers mate, thanks so much
Hey Dan, nice to see you're loving the Diamond Compressor. Try it with 18 or 24 volts and you'll thank me later. Also once you're down that rabbit hole, go for the Diamond Comp SE version (even cleaner). I run that at 24 volts and it doesn't get better. Enjoy mate!
Love to see Diamond get a double dose of love. Big fan of the comp. Had two. Loved them. Excellent video. Super duper tone from the Matchless and the Fender. Enjoy, Dan!
This is the kind of content I want in 2024! Fantastic video and tones!
I really like the idea of a post gig regroup on both boards. I think that could be a great learning experience for us as audience.
TPS has been so instrumental in shaping my board. I value both of your opinions. You have great ears and get to use so much cool gear. My board is currently
Origin Cali76 Stacked > Mythos Argo > Horrothia Teeth > Thorpy Fallout Cloud > Chase Bliss Automatone Preamp MKII > Fairfield Shallow Water > Chase Bliss Thermae > Free The Tone Future Factory > Chase Bliss CXM 1978
You guys really should try the Horrothia stuff, it’s great and it’s a British company. The Shallow Water might appeal to Dan as well.
I love the banter and camaraderie in this one. Awesome board, themes, and playing as usual.
Look at Mick at the end. So happy for his friend and enjoying the music and the fun so much. Both of you, such lovely people! Thank you both. ✌️😌🎸
I would expect nothing less from Dan’s pedal board! I love pedal board episodes!!
Nice. For an all in one board, I usually go with an H90 for all effects, and an Automotone for an all in one OD/Fuzz. Plugged into the right amp, those two pedals cover just about everything I would ever need to play.
It's fun, I'm a strat guy as Mick but love double amps configurations, 80's wobble and Verb and delay controlled with expression pedal as Dan.😎
that Mistress wet/dry is the first time I absolutely downright LOVE the sound of flanger.
Optical compressor as boost!! Happy to be a member of that club!! Walrus Mira here, but that Diamond sounds ridiculously good.
Thanks for suggesting that Diamond Compressor. Absolute magical tone sauce. 3x Diamond mk 1 pedals for me in 3 weeks. Vibrato, Phase and now Compressor. 3 of the best pedals I've EVER played. Apples and oranges to modern digital pedals--better: that's subjective, different: objectively yes.
That was a tasty play out, Dan. Rock on, boys.
Cheers mate 🙏
I would love to see an old fashioned pedalboard build, choosing, assembling, etc. I know you probably think you've done that to death, but I for one cannot get enough of that/
Maybe a 90s board Vs 2010?
“Happy to become its latest custodian!” Love that way of thinking about guitars. Excellent!
Yeah, I loved this too
This is for Dan! Just as the Matchless cabs have a Celestion speaker mix. I highly recommend swapping out one of the Vintage 30's in the bass breaker for a Celestion anniversary G12H-30 and OMG! Tone heaven! Those 2 speakers complement each other SO well!
Wish i knew half of what you guys do! I struggle with adding 8-9 pedals together and get a killer sound… 20 guitars 10 amps 100 pedals…it aint easy… tweak my way right out of good tone… loads of time and $… time and effort should have been spent on playing guitar!!! Love the show, u guys are brilliant and stellar players, thanks for the years of entertainment !!!
So great to hear Dan in his happy place during the outro. Totally inspired 👍
The LVX is like having the H9 or H90 with a dry thru - so it solved the problem that kept me from getting into that digital texture world.
An interesting video idea would be to have Mick and Dan with their pedal boards and cabinets in the room with them, but not the amps. In a separate room would be 6-8 different amps heads with a switcher, with their boards going into it, then out into the cabinets in the room with them. Then they can switch back and forth between the different amps without knowing which is which, and see if they can tell which amp is which, or which they like best. Could have a combination of some high end amps with some cheaper ones mixed in. Maybe Micks Two Rock and Dan’s Matchless to see if they pick those or something else. Maybe even throw a Katana head in there to see if they can identify it compared to the others.
Happy to see the diamond compressor is getting some love. Feels like over the years the masses have forgotten about this gem
I used to have a BBE OptoComp always engaged for years and maybe not have same Diamond quality but it do his duty very very well. I totally agreed what you mean, certain compressors are “musical” in a peculiar way…
"Happiest I've been with a pedalboard!".......that has to be a great feeling....thanks for sharing!
I happened to enjoy that tremendously (as always)>I will get a second amp for wet dry someday (current Ceriatone OTS 20)>I will partake in sonic adventures>I will alway watch TPS> Leg Ends for all to enjoy
Recent Boss CE-1 (and PastFx) convert... The Diamond vibrato in wet/dry is staggeringly good. Sounds very much in that camp.
That Reverb and delay sound glorious by the way. The whole rig sounds amazing. And Red is sounding better than ever.
'The Stereo indulgence' - love it - has to be the name of your next pedal! In the middle of rebuilding my board so perfect timing - as always lots of great ideas to explore.
This video might reinvigorate my lust for flanger. The wait it sounds wet/dry here is magic. I dislike flangers standalone and this video showcase what exactly I dont like about flangers in normal one amp situation. Awesome stuff.
I Love this journey that Dan is on!!! I'm so intrigued!!!! Loving it!!!
It’s weird how similar this is to my setup. I play a Telecaster (though through a Fender Vibro Champ) with the Meris Mercury X (which has a lot of CXM inside), Meris LVX, Diamond Vibrato, Diamond Compressor, Jam Harmonious Monk, a Tone Bender replica and the Boss BP-1W preamp. Insane how similar our tastes are, and I don’t even watch this show often, should probably start doing that now!
55:52 That is a really good idea. We can't all make it to a TPS show - would be great to know how things are used, his things we adjusted for bass and drums and all that!
Ah I'm so pleased to see the diamond comp on the board and also vindicating my decision to run it after my lightspeed. That is a mega pedal full of tones and using the EQ knob to boost or cut a frequency in a live setting is unbelievably useful. Killer board Dan!
Wow incredible sounds Dan. Looking forward to hearing the new board at the Cavern Club. 🎸
I had foolishly sold my second amp in need of funds and recently sold a lot of pedals to fund a Dr. Z z28 mkii (ef86 front end and two 5881’s). Why you ask? Because I can’t live without the wet/dry thing with my Diamond Vibrato. It enhances clean sounds, dirt sounds, all sounds, without sounding cheesy, and that volume control is perfect. Cheers!
Experiment for tonight, place a Flanger in Parallel in the HX Stomp post overdrive and see if I get that Lush Movement Dan created, but going out to just 1 Amp.
Love the Tele-Paul idea, just "acquired" a contender in the form of a custom shop 1960 Les Paul Special double cut TV Model, once fitted with Lollar 50's wind P-90's
Nice to see Red, the OG, getting some love. As expected the delay sounds, from the delay maestro, just perfect.....did i detect some Run To You tone vibes there too? Holy Keith Scott
Unreal. Between this and the fuzz face video, I feel inspired to play and experiment all weekend. Thanks gents!
Following this episode, there is now a time before I loved Flanger and a time after. My search has begun!
Really enjoyed the playing (and sounds). Cheers, Dan.
This show may have finally tipped me over to try a wet dry rig. I have all the necessary tools like great amps, pedals, etc, just need to set up the wiring. A Gigrig system might be the best way to control it.
Thanks for the ongoing inspiration and comradeship. 🎉
Happy Lunar New Year to everyone.
Sounds mint. Dan, make sure spillover of OFF and nothing is in the pre+dry block on the LVX or you lose analog dry through. (Digital dry is actually fine, sonically, and you’re running stereo, not w/d or w/d/w, but I do prefer mine w/adt.)
A little surprised to see the old EM instead of a PastFX Elastic Mattress but whatevs.
Cheers mate, yeah, have been through all that stuff in the LVX. Tis a powerful thing
That was very cool to see Dan's PedalBoard for 2024 !! And as a drummer for a long time, I appreciate the comment that Dan made that "if a drummer can lug around his drum kit to gigs, he can surely lug his large pedal board to gigs too". That was always something that was taken for granted while the singer of the band brought his one microphone, put it in the stand and then socialized while the rest of us setup gear! Singers man, singers!😒😒😠😠
bringing a microphone is even a lot for most singers :P
oh man, tell me about it...or even owning one!@@dustinthiessen
I felt validated when Dan put tremolo on one side only! I recently bought a Princeton to go together with JTM45, and I was wondering how running a tremolo on one amp only would sound. I found it funny that at loud volumes it sounded like there was my regular tone, but it wobbled the air :D (The JTM is slightly attenuated and Princeton has a more efficient speaker, so yes, they're fairly volume matched).
So happy for you, Dan! And for us out here, 1:04:25 of joy and enthusiasm was just what the doctor ordered. Of course things will change on the board but that's cool too. I mean, just look at G3; not the product of a man who is ever satisfied with sitting on his hands. Besides, dopamine is triggered on anticipation... But right now those tones really are mind boggling extensions of a boggling mind. Beautiful.
Ah, thanks so much G 🤓🙏
Wow! Amazing board! So many great tones in there.
9:43 agree. And it will NEVER get old either.
20:00 lovely
It's bizarre to realise despite the complexity here, both Mick & Dan have simplified their rigs & honed in on their sound.
Also this couldn't have been better timed as I am about to rebuild my board & my routing, with the wet/dry & stereo & a parallel summing incase I want to use one amp, is similar to Dan's routing here. And this has inspired me to completely rethink pedal order & how I'll be routing so cheers Dan.
Haha! Dan’s really gone down the rabbit hole in this one! I just checked out your guys website, for the first time in yonks. Pleased to see you’re playing at the Cavern on my birthday! I’m in. Looking forward to it 👍
See you there! 🙏
Exactly, the diamond compressor with a tele for the win!
I love my Zio, amazing pedal that does some really cool stuff. Dan has it as a volume pot for one pedal 😂 Amazing board. Great show.
34'54" Dan: "One of the things about, flanging... as much as I love it.. I've found over the years, that..." 😆 Did Mick suppress a giggle? 😅
It surprises me that no one seems to use a boss EQ-200 with a switcher like the G3...
It's an incredibly low-noise and versatile EQ pedal, it's midi programable, and can be split into 2 separate EQ's in series, parallel, or their own loops. It also has the option to store 128 presets.
I have mine set up so that one loop can be used anywhere I like, usually to shape overdrive sounds, or as a boost (btw, EQ pedals are IMO the best poosts possible, this one has 15db of clean gain, and you can bump up the mids for solos to cut through a mix). I can store presets for different drive sounds so that, even though I just use a wampler dual fusion, I can access a tonne of different classic OD sounds with the touch of one button on the switcher.
I have the other loop sent into the FX loop of my amp, I use a studio JTM so this is super useful, allows me to tame the bass where needed.
I LOVE it.
My buddy just got an epiphone les Paul jr and it’s the best gig guitar for someone like him. Me, I love my Micheal Kelly and Squier telecaster shaped objects. And my semi hollow Gretsch with staple P90s.
With a good guitar tech and willingness to modify electronics, find a good body and neck you love to play and go from there. My MK ‘55 and my Squier Sonic Esquire are both delights to play after some action setup and new pickups and pots.
Really clever stuff at work here - thought provoking and yet very practical at the same time. You guys have challenged me many times to rethink what I thought I knew!!
I have to say though, that LVX seems like a musical rabbit hole to waste hours going down, but can't hear anything musical from it for real world stuff - unless I wanted to turn my guitar into synth (we have a keys player who does that bit already :) but I know many don't )
That expression pedal to change the reverb delay mix is pure mad genius, just a great idea, I have struggled with that for years, I will just turn off all the delay/verb when getting heavy gain drive as it just mushes out, but being able to vary that mix on the fly, just pure genius. Always great ideas and brilliant solutions to problems from these fine young men of TPS.
Please try to get Neil Halstead or Christian Savill from Slowdive on the show! they are so into pedals!
Dan if you haven't already check out Past Fx Elastic Mattress. It's the best Mistress I've found, to my ear anyhow. I have the standard, but they also do a spot on clone with all the noise as well. Just thought you might dig it so you don't have to gig the oldy.
WONDERFUL!!!🎶🎸🎉❤️
This has been the foundation of my live rig since around 1984. Love it… Great job guys.🎶🎉🎸❤️

Thanks for this Gents . Love "Personal Board Day" !... Sounds "Mega" ,Dan .and yeah Red is the perfect guitar for that !
I love all those modes he was playing at the end. Go Dan!
Great to see you back on your feet Daniel! 🧐 Well, on your stool at least 😎✌🤘
After that gibson 345 show, I just have never been the same. It was such a great show. Really hoping for that John Cordy show!!!! PLease!!!. Really Sounds Great DAN. Love the Cleans especially.
That diamond compressor is killin.
I wasn't looking to squeeze a Fuzz on to my board, but if the Tacit Blue can stealth another transformer into the signal chain then it has gotten my interest. 🤔
Wonderful to see the Tacit Blue under the board…. And really cool to see the pre Thorpy, Thorpy. Overall incredible board that’s just so well thought out. Love the continued and unrelenting passion.
Cheers buddy, hope you’re awesome. That Tacit Blue is something else!
The OG Diamond Compressor is a glorious thing and worth experimenting with its voltage. I run mine at 18v.
With all respect for TPS, and with the acknowledgement that shows about sounds I DON'T like are often more interesting than shows about sounds I already love: I still do not get one single bit of the SD-9 thing. Like 0%, nil for, all against. I think this is the greatest hearing/taste divergence in my TPS history, and I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode!
Another wonderful morning provided by TPS! Cheers gentlemen!
Nice one Dan, I was on the verge of selling my Diamond Comp, er… not now ❤
I’ve been on a hunt for a big box surf green comp to match my surf green vibrato. Well, might be expensive now
Amazing sounds in the intro.
Oh man... The SD-9 is amazing! Great response and dinamyc ❤, tone unbelievable 💣
Got a Diamond CPR-1 a year or so back having tried the Mooer Yellow Comp and loved it, I had to get a used one as the company were on hiatus at the time but are now back in business. A superb unit that seems to add a certain sparkle that you don't get with other comps.
I do hope we get a dedicated video on the 62 Les paul. Truly magnificent bit of kit.
Your Electric Mistress is such a beautiful example of a flanger. You've dialed it wonderfully
You work inside a toybox! Or, have you ever thought of the abstract analogy between your rectangular room and a pedal itself?
Wonderful episode gentlemen. I was particularly happy to see Dan use my favourite compressor on his current board. The Diamond has the feel of a real Teletronix optical in a small and perfect box. When the full size units vanished I ended up buying a couple of Jrs for other boards. As good as the Cali 76 is, optical compressors sound different from FET compressors. Congrats!
Very fun. The latest board is always the best.
Excellent show, gentlemen! Thank you for the amazing content!
What an intro!!!!! This is gonna be a special vid and am only 5mins into it!!!
