Yes...nice to meet Paul. Think you house will be well insulated with the thickness of the concrete. And like the man cave pla n...of course....thanks for sharing Kenny....😊
DANG, I thought I missed something. Was trying to figure out who "giant2148" could be. Spent some time at Paul's neighbor's house (awesome place) while we were there, so I assumed it was him. Now I know. Thanks for watching!
@ParadiseNThailand i have changed that Gi ant handle to Ron Jon. But it has not been applied everywhere obviously...555...sorry about that. Glad you figured it out...
Hi Kenny and Sompit Great to see Paul and Aors house coming along looks like plenty outside space for socialising like us all about the outside space mate and the Bar b que Cheers Gary and Mon 50/50
Hi Kenny, I believe you found your niche in YT videos, traveling to different Falang builds and doing an interview during the process. Of course you need to go back a few times to show progress. Maybe late next year you will be travelling to see our build near Chumpae.
I think we drove right past you last week! During our build, Sompit had suggested I do farang house build videos. No question, they are more popular than my traveling videos. If my channel was monetized and I was in to make some money from YT, I would likely jump on it. I enjoy the visits and meeting all these people that I have something in common with, so for now we will keep incorporating a few builds into our mix. Surprise, I have a follow-up build video coming out tomorrow :) hope you enjoy it.
Thanks Kenny great video we are starting our house build about February just north Khon kaen in the village I might try and catch up with Paul I was born in Canberra. I live in Australia Brisbane at the moment 3 more years to retirement.
@ ok mate that sounds great Na and I are hoping to come over in February my work contract finishes at the end of January. I am keen to watch your house build 👍
Hello Kenny, I have a question for you, I watched your old videos when you raised your land with dirt and I started to watch Pauls video's of the same, back filling the land with dirt. The question is:- why do you wait for a rainy season to compact the dirt, why don't you use a heavy road roller to vibrate and compact the dirt? This would save up to 1 year of waiting and allow construction to start immediately after the ground has been raised.
That would definitely work as long as you compact in layers. The problem is no one here has them, except road crews, so they are hard to find. With that, the norm is to let it sit. Many will tell you to leave it no less than 2 years. My opinion, as you know, is that a minimum of one rainy season because the rain is what will cause the settling/compaction of the soil, but I will also recommend that if you only let it rest one season, put your house on piles to ensure you get no cracking. Our pilings cost an additional B50,000 ($1500us).
G'day, as Kenny said getting a compactor wouldn't be easy in Thailand. Even in Australia when they want to compact ground for a commercial building in sandy /soft soil areas, I've seen them build up dirt on site and leave it a couple of years before scaling it to ground level and then start to build.
Paul forgot to mention how much the house is going to cost, you guys got caught up in AC talk. 140k Baht doesn't sound unreasonable for 5 high BTU quality units. In the US it would be quite a bit more.
Yes, I caught that. Thought maybe he did not want to share it, so I didn't press it on camera. He will be monitoring this feed, so we will see what he says.
Paul if you are monitoring the comments - you need R7.5 insulation. You can get a lower rating but the higher rating is better. On the subject of A/C's I had a similar conundrum re sizing. I ended up putting in 2 x 18,000 BTU's in a combined dining/kitchen area. We rarely run the second unit BUT even in hindsight I wouldn't change my choice.
Hey Mark, I asked Paul to monitor the comments for the first couple days. Ironically, I reviewed this video earlier and suggested the same (2x18k) in a Line message to Paul. Save a little money and get the cooling capacity he will need. Of course, I suggested calculating the sq meters first to insure it will be sufficient. Good call!
Thanks for the advice Mark. All the AC and insulation decisions are a ways down the track yet but we are starting to have the conversations with the builder now.
Now I have to look at the map. Always assumed Sidney was the capital until Paul made that comment. Learn something new every day. The problem is, at this age, remembering it! lol
Enjoyed the video. I think the house will be nice when its completed.
Looking forward to seeing it completed. We will do a follow-up.
Now that’s a gut! 😂
Good luck with the build Paul.
Wish you all the best.
Thanks for the well wishes, I am sure Paul appreciates it, and thanks for watching.
Yeah and a good head for radio too! 😜
It looks like you came close to driving through my neck of the woods on the Khon Kaen Petchabun, Loei border. Love watching your travels!
Hey Brandon,
Had we known, we could have met for a coffee or something. Pretty sure we will be back through there again.
