Been in Thailand many years always thought about going back to hometown of Scarborough but put it off for several reasons First and foremost my wife of 35 years not in the greatest of health but nothing serious Having said that have decided if i don't go in the next year ill be staying here until the end 😢
Thanks Les, I enjoyed that, never been to Redcar looks nice. It's good to see you in the sunshine unlike the last time you were home. I hope your sister is doing well. Best wishes from Ireland. My dad was a fireman for over 25 years back in the old day's, this is hard to believe but back then when the (BA's) were introduced, they had none for a long time. A lot of the Firemen were of the attitude that the breathing apparatus were for the soft guy's, in other words they were tough without them. It's a funny old world.
It reminds me of cleveleys where I was living before I moved to Thailand 15 years ago. It's nice in the summer but the winter weather was dismal. Plus, prices in the UK are off the chart now. Life in Thailand is so much more affordable.
The famous british steel Darman Long & Co. from Redcar cross the ocean to build Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932 & also made The Memorial Bridge in Bangkok, both finished in the same year. Sawasdee from 🇹🇭 Nice clip Les !
Thanks for that, I worked for the steel works and so did my Dad. The UK was a powerhouse of the World exporting many things but now we have allowed them to close all of the manufacture and import everything including Electric. Sad. UK sold their sole for profit.
Enjoyed your walk around some of my favorite places in Redcar. Good childhood memories, rowing, crabbing, etc and even sea-coaling after a storm! Don’t miss that wind off the North Sea lol
Remenber the old kent road , or as we called it the oil rig on the promenade. Is that the odean picture house . Used to watch alot of movies there in the 60s and 70s , i lived in marske ,but spent alot of time in redcar . Left in 1979 after serving my time in oil and gas construction . Alot of work in teesside back then ,rig yards ,ICI wilton and billingham , i opted to go travelling the world myself , ICI alone employed 55 thousand people ,directly not including subcontractors. All the best regards Mark naisby
Post industrial & coastal towns are proper decent places that are misunderstood by policy makers in London and mocked in popular media. Im sure the character and spirit of the local folk will prevail in future. Cheers
Hey Les, good to see you're well. If nothing else, coming back to the UK will/has only reassure you that you made the right decision 14 years ago. However, I did manage to think of 1 thing that has improved in the UK since you've been gone 😲 And that's the huge variety of quality craft Ales we have readily available now. So while you're here, be sure to get some 'Level Head' or 'Neck oil' down ya. P.S. Hope your Sister is doing well ❤
Thanks for that I'm in Saltburn again next week and yes seen a few beers I'd like to try. Sister one op down one more next week. Fingers crossed thanks for asking,🙏
Lovely Redcar , especially that strip of seaside land down to Marske-by-the-Sea .We used to go in the late 1950s and 1960s and you couldn't move for cars and people. I had many happy days on that strip as a kid.
Hi there Les. Great film. I’m back at the house in Bang Saray. We’ve been staying in the Bangkok place, sorting a few visa things out in Pathum Thani. Glad you’re enjoying yourself in your hometown of Redcar. Hope your sister is keeping well. Fascinating films you’ve been making showing the comparison between the UK. and your fab place in Rayong. I enjoyed the one about the pension information. Glad I’m here, even though, as you know it’s rainy season. Bet you’re looking forward to returning back to Thailand. Hope to see you soon.
Everywhere is much lovelier when the sun is shining. I'm glad you have enjoyed your trip back for a visit. We left UK in 1983 to live in Australia. No regrets, but miss my family every day. It's a difficult decision to make.
Good to see my home town on here mate, looks a bit better than I imagined, we must have left Redcar for Thailand about the same time, I left for Thailand in October 2011
@RetiredandLivingthedream I have been living in bangkok for 3 months and I miss a good bacon and egg macmufin My eating habits are more healthy 😋 now lol
Thankfully we never suffered that ,, although there was a huge Alsatian on the loose , the drivers used to feed it the remainder of their takeaways ., I seem to remember we could see an ICI works in the distance ,, maybe I’m wrong
At least it's sunny there here in Thailand horrible rain been in Laos for 3 days now in nong khai Sea looks nice, everywhere in sun is nice I got nice weather in April but we are in rainy season here and it not nice just boring
Thanks for the walk! That is a very beautiful sky above you & gives the whole place a nice feel. It looks very tidy & safe at least in the daylight. I guess in a way it is similar to where we are now in the US meaning clean & tidy but quite boring in many ways. We will be back at our Thai home in Sept & once again thinking of living out our years there....maybe 😉 Do you think you will live out your life at your Thailand home or would you maybe move back here to Redcar some day for the health care coverage etc.? Thanks again!
I will see out my Days in Thailand for sure, no wish to return here, family illness is why I'm here now but return in September. Thailand is now my home. Thanks for watching.🙏
I have friend who moved to Thailand in 1998, he lives in Bangkok lang suan in the a condo know as the Royal place He plays an Indian instrument and is Learning Spanish Nd teaches part time mathematics. He is very happy.
Hiya. I was intrigued to hear of an amusement park that was in Redcar, But I cannot find any reference to it online. Do you maybe have a link to some information on it please? Thanks 😉
No not thought of that, I love Thai food and here in the UK I can have many choices, had a few Indian meals and Italian, I will get my fill of Thai food when I return. Thanks for taking time to comment.
I was last here 1 1/2 years ago another Family reason. Been here 4 weeks now and it's not looking good. Riots will get more and more public anger and the government will cause more unrest with their proposals blaming the previous government for having to rob the working person.
another great video Les,looking for some good solid advice,im at the 1 more year stage, heres the deal,im 58,in 18 months when im 60,i will have saved 300k,i plan to go to Jomtien for a year then to see if i can settle in Thailand,i plan to budget 25k for that year, probs not inc my rent. I plan to pay the rent for an apartment for that year up front and realisticly live off £1800-2000 a month, whats your thoughts on that,i respect and value your advice, many thanks
Redcar doesn't seem too bad a place. When I watch "the wandering turnip" on TH-cam visiting towns in the UK, Redcar actually looks desirable. I have been looking at selling my large house in Kings Langley and buy a cheap freehold house somewhere in the UK to be resident on paper in the UK but actually live in Thailand.
@@silversurfer6758 The way society is going with the immigrants, nothing is safe anymore. I live in a good area in Kings Langley and have had 4 burglaries in the last 12 years. I stopped reporting the burglaries because I don't have insurance.
Aye up Les, nice to see your channel is steadily growing, nice one. Ive noticed one thing in the UK, they never put wind turbines in posh areas or off the beaches of the South coast do they? The government just shaft the views of the traditional working class .
It would appear so, they should have wind turbines in Parliament with all that hot air coming from there, No Hotels with invaders in posh areas also. Not in their back yard. Thanks for watching.
@@RetiredandLivingthedream Redcar best known for its great steel works now disappeared and replaced with Work progressing on the SeAH Wind monopile manufacturing facility at Tees works. I’m just curious your meaning, as British English and/or your terms have a bit of a different meaning, as for me: my girlfriend and my wife are two different people, they are not the same person, but it sounds like the are one and the same for you.

Mmmmm ok everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'd disagree.
