  • This is a small recording of me riding home my brand new Ninja 650 from the dealership. This is my very first motorcycle and I am a new rider. Took the MSF course in 2006 but never purchased or rode since. Took it again recently. Any tips or critiques is appreciated.

    Well done. Beats my ride home from the dealership several days ago.
    Upgraded from a 250cc to a 700cc, bunny hopped first time twisted throttle🤣.
    Realised how fast the bike actually was and wuthin 30sec thinking I made a terrible mistake.
    200m from the dealership, stalled at an intersection, put my foot out, slipped, dropped bike. Swore many times while struggling to pick 180kg bike up.
    Did the ride of shame past the HD dealership around the corner that had the salesmen outside wondering why the swearing.
    Part of my peg broke in the fall. Luckily have sliders so no other damage.
    Mirrors dislodged and needed tightening with tools, which couldn't do until got home so road without mirrors in the city.
    Got lost several times, as just moved to new city.
    It was raining whole time and no rain gear. Rest of ride was ok.
    Day 2: Got drunk.
    Day 3: Practiced feel of clutch play and throttle with success and feel happy to ride now🫠.
    So yeah, you did well🤣🤣

      That just sucks man:( I’m so sorry. One thing I did when i did the jump from a freakin Suzuki 250tux to a ninja 650 was take a track class. It was the best thing I’ve ever done in terms of getting to know the limits of skills and how the bike reacts on the road and in turns.. plus it was really fun.. I didn’t go out there with full leathers or anything.. those are way expensive.. you just need a pair of real riding pants and a quality jacket and helmet.

      It happens.. I remember stalling out and falling trying to make a U turn on a 805 Suzuki boulevard right after leaving a job interview.. so embarrassed and I didn't know the technique for picking up a heavy cruiser... terrible day. I had been riding maybe a month. Those experiences stick with you and you learn a lot from them.

    Good job you got it home without any incidents. Most incidents happen in the first two weeks of ownership statistically. Have fun is the most important thing and remember it's always gonna be your fault if something happens good or bad.

    Nicely done. Near perfect 1st bike.
    Good next step would be to get
    1. safety training
    2. lean angle training on a bike with wheeled outriggers.
    Fast route to proficiency.

    Rode one of these a few weeks back with the thought of buying one to replace my ER5. Couldn’t get over how much vibrations it put through the seat and tank at 70-75mph. Lovely looking bike but no way should it vibrate more than a 20 year old ER5!

    • @ItsKroov
      @ItsKroov 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i was wondering if its just the way the camera is set up but the whole time i could feel the vibrations through the screen lmao.

    • @rich075
      @rich075  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's actually the camera that was moving about. The vibration, at least to me, is very minimal and until I read your comment, I had not noticed nor thought about it. I've ridden the Kawasaki KLX 230 and that vibration is horrible on that.

      @jg7173 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      During break-in it vibrates a bit more... i believe it becomes less afterwards, so ive heard...

    Ninjas are nice, but i feel like its kinda hard to find one without any of that really fkn ugly shade of green that they often have.

    • @rich075
      @rich075  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Yes, you're right. The dealership was trying hard to push the green one on me but I made it clear I was not interested. So they located the matte gray one for me.

      I can't imagine having a ninja in any colour other than green, like KTM in orange..

    • @DropoutJerome
      @DropoutJerome 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I feel like most bike manufacturers need to stop with the dumb color schemes and focus on curves. Bikes should only have black, grey, and white colors and then if you want to customize it go get decals or a wrap. I'm drawn away from so many bikes due to their color schemes. Like I don't even like KTM's orange.

    How’s the clutch lever on this? I rode a ninja 250 and it was like the most unresponsive thing in the world. The friction zone was almost letting go of the clutch

    Can i get this as my first bike? Some people say you can start on it but others say i should start on a 400. Also congrats on getting the bike

    • @rich075
      @rich075  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Look at my other videos. I had the bike for about 2 weeks before trading it in for a Z900. I realized that I had to get the bike that I liked, not what others thought would be bet for me. You have to have the maturity and self-control in place no matter what CC your bike is. You can get injured on a small bike just as you can on a big one.

      At the MSF course, instructor said don’t go by ccs, just buy the one you want that’s in your budget, they all go as fast as you can turn your wrist.

      It’s good to start on a 600cc, in this case the Nina 650 (650cc)
      It’s got a great balance of power & speed, while still being very beginner-friendly
      A 650 is a bike a beginner can use that’ll last them a long time
