  • How To Fish For Bass With Grubs - Catching Smallmouth Bass on Plastic Grubs
    In this video I am using a plastic grub in search of some Smallmouth Bass. I think the grub doesn't get as much love as it deserves! I been using grubs for many years and it helps catch more fish. It is an easy presentation to learn and very effective. I usually use a 1/8 up to 1/4 ounce jig head to put my grub on it but have been known to go up a bit heavier if I am fishing deeper water or in strong current.
    You can buy the grubs that I suggest in this video here...

    Who is SmallmouthCrush?
    Travis Manson was born and raised where the giant Smallmouth Bass of the north live...WISCONSIN. He started fishing from the bank at a young age and spent most of his childhood with a rod in his hand. Travis is primarily a self-taught angler that is always learning and experiencing this amazing sport of fishing. He started out fishing for walleyes and fishing in local walleye tournaments, but then in his mid 20's, he caught the BASS BUG and has been hooked every since. He competed at the highest level in bass fishing on the Bassmaster Elite Series for a number of years, until he ran out of $$ money $$. This led to a move across the country to the Northeast where he got things right again and is back on track, but now on his own terms. Perhaps he will make another run at the Elite Series if the opportunity allows. In the meantime, he is a fishing guide offering trips on the Chesapeake Bay for largemouth bass(year round), guided trips for smallmouth back in Wisconsin (during select times) and trophy smallmouth bass guided trips in Upstate New York (May-November) His TH-cam Channel is named after his passion for the smallmouth bass and will be used as a platform for "how-to" videos, on the water instruction, crazy on and off the water topics and vlogs on the day in the life of a fishing addict! Hope you enjoy!

    A grub will always be in my tacklebox. I actually carry pearl, green pumpkin, and chartreuse. From the top with a bobber to the bottom texas rigged and every level of the water column in between. Jig, spinnerbait, and chatterbait trailers or on the light wire 1/8 oz head swimming it... grubs are awesome and cheap and they work so well!
    Started with Mr. Twister in the 70s... now I use Yum packs mostly.

    If the guy leaving a spot was throwing a Spinnerbait or a Crank get in there and throw a grub- no takers - maybe only hunting Craws right now- throw a Jig n Pig u0 and bring it out slowly- No takers - Run a Carolina parallel to the shore on the outside edge of weed bed or shelf drop- Tie on a Double- tailed Grub in Pumpkin- Brown if the Jand P isn't working- Smoke- Fleck works on Smallies on Sunny Days- PUmpkin with a Little Chartreuse painted on the tail works when overcast

    These are by far my top producing bait on tough pressured conditions. A white 4 inch mister twister on a slow roll just a little bit off the bottom gets em most times

    Great video and grub fishing tips. After all these years I still catch lots of River small mouth, walleye and pike on grubs.

    Not sure why I stopped fishing grubs many years back. This made me tie one on again! They are great and imo under utilized these days

    I use 1 inch grubs to fish for European perch, my favourite way to fish them is on a split shot or cheburaska rig

    I learned how to fish smallmouth using grubs back in the 80s....never use anything else...never needed too as I always catch fish and outfish everyone using other baits.

    I use a 3" grub or even a tube or swimbait 90% of the time for Smallmouth. I feel there are better choices at 4" and above. And I love grub fishing alllot.

      @sweynforkbeard8857 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My go to bait. I use them for largemouth as well. Love the 3" Kalin's and the plain old Mr. Twister. Kalin's has a super soft tail that moves at really slow speeds. Mr. Twister you can work and jig more as it is stiffer but has a more pronounced tail wag.

    • @Maicoczpenton
      @Maicoczpenton 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sweynforkbeard8857 I agree, and the stiffer Mr. Twister grubs holds up better than the softer Kalin's. The old drop of super glue trick on the head is also a must. Catch a big un!

    Good video. I shore fish Lake Erie a lot and have found that you can catch pretty much any fish in the Lake with Grubs of various size and color at any given time. There are times when I'll catch 6 different species using the same 2-3 inch grub on a black 1/8 oz round jig head.

    Great channel! I’m wondering what your thoughts are about when to go to a grub as opposed to a small Keitech.

    • @SmallmouthCrush
      @SmallmouthCrush  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a tough one. Grubs have always been a standard. As of now I would have the keitech on probably more often then a grub. Both baits can be worked the same way and used around the same type of cover. I think in staind colored water that hypertail grub would put out more vibration and perhaps draw them in more. The grub is still my number one chatterbait trailer and swimbait trailer though.

    • @SmallmouthCrush
      @SmallmouthCrush  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is something I have not looked into yet. I am sure they will work and if anything may get you some follows where you can throw back to them a smaller bait. I know of a few people who throw them and they do get smallmouth on them. I just haven't had the chance to try it yet.

    travis I just watched your grub video and wanted to let you know that a grub is my go to bait when the bait is tough I like the power bait pumpkin chartrueuse color 3 inch but I use the little spinner with it but I have changed my blades to a Indiana blade I have caught so many fish with this bait and won tournaments with it that ive been named the beetle spin queen by my club members but they wouldn't be caught dead fishing it I told them that's fine ill just keep beating your butts with it what are your rates for a guided trip on the conowingo resivoier

    • @SmallmouthCrush
