    I just the new sandonna uke in pink and I have a concert already that is now my dads uke . But I had a saprano and I was told I am too short and I am in a wheelchair so it’s a little difficult to see around a concert so I am hoping I chose the right size or is it a preference thing for sizes?

      Bernadette Teaches Music I have both but I was told I’m short for my concert because I am in a wheelchair. So I was wondering if that is an accurate assessment of does my size matter for the size of uke?

    Thanks for the Video! :) actually i have a question of my own (because i know nothing about music..). In so many Videos people ysay "if the song is in the key of c..." (of a, as you did in this Video). How does one tell which "key" a song is in? Im sorry if this is an overly stupid question.. And maybe the simple answer to it is, to buy a book about music theory ;) but still, maybe there is a quick and simple answer to it :)

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my goodness... I should have addressed that. Thank you.
      If you click on this link and look at the top description of the chords, it says "Key"
      That means that the chords will be in the C family... Chords kind of behave in families, so that helps the player know which chords will most likely be used.

    I have been away over the holidays, 7k great going! My daughter got a mandolin and I got a tenor ukulele. A musical Christmas! I instantly changed the strings to low g, it is so lovely, now that the strings are settling. I even got my husband to sit down and play with me. We were playing a version of Creep that we found on Got a Uke’s channel and Free Falling, three chord songs. Unlike me, my husband was gifted with the ability to strum and he has these huge working mans hands. He chews his nails (cringe) and his fingers just smush the strings to submission on the fretboard. But the next day even he was complaining of sore fingers. I practiced too much when I got my concert and am suffering from a lack of sensation in my fret fingers so I have been slowing up, trying to play enough to keep the calluses while allowing the nerves to heal. I enjoyed your vlogs but I really think it’s up to you how much of your life you want to share. Although kitty updates are a must!
    I really enjoy your step by step lessons chords, strumming, fingerstyle and chord changes videos. Maybe some fingerstyle song how to’s world be nice? Thanks and You’re Welcome! Shannon

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Shannon! It sounds like you had a WONDERFUL Christmas! A tenor ukulele and a mandolin under the same tree... a dream come true!
      Where did you get the string to replace your high G? I would like to replace it on one of my ukes and want to hear recommendations ;)
      Now that my hand has healed from the horrible cut I got last summer 2:50 -(click to see), I have been playing ukulele and sanshin nonstop, so I no longer have sensitivity in my fretboard fingers. As terrible as that sounds, I see it as a rite of passage. It also makes it easy to flip tortillas on the stove 😂
      Thank you for your video recommendations! It helps me so much to hear what viewers like you want to see. Otherwise I'm just guessing or looking at videos with lots of views... it's much better this way.
      Happy New Year. Hope to continue hearing from you this year ❤

    • @highdesertsun3154
      @highdesertsun3154 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has been a dream come true, I’ve always wanted to be part of a musical family and now I’m helping mine be one! My son plays viola in middle school orchestra, I hope he sticks with it.
      Oh so numb fingertips are the usual! The problem is I can’t pick up something flat like a ruler with my left hand! I like to sew too and it seems I have a new challenge. Haha I love homemade tortillas!
      www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QXRFE2S?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd
      These are the strings I got. I went with fluorocarbon because they are easier on the fingers and no wrapped strings to squeak. I like that on my daughter’s guitar but not so much on an ukulele.
      I’ll keep letting you know who I’m watching, I think it helps with diversity and ideas. People look around and find who work for them. I also love Uncle Raggy’s Old Geezer Style although I think my understanding of the fretboard is going to have to grow along with my ear before I can really do his teaching justice. Right now what you’re offering is at my level of knowledge and keeps me from feeling frustrated. My strumming is sounding better! Chucking on the other hand...

    Omg, thank goodness your hand will be alright. Our hands are soooooo important and we must take care of them. As a retired court reporter for 25 years, I wouldn’t do anything that might hurt my ability to earn a living. No skating, skiing, etc.
    God bless and take care. You’re such a wonderful teacher for people of all ages. I’ve recommended you to others learning the uke.

    Thank you for this video Bernadette! I didn't learn how to chuck yet and I think you are right, each person might find your own way to do it. I for example, find hard to do some chords as taught on tutorials, mostly the G as I have a problem with my finger medio as it doesn't bend as it should so I figured out another way to do it. Maybe it is not the best but is the only way I manage to do a G. I know my finger might become a problem in the future when I learn more advanced chords but, again, I'll just need to find a way to adapt it...
