Really can’t tell you how much you’re videos are keeping me going at the moment Simon, I’ve just been in hospital for two months after being diagnosed with kidney failure anaemia and high blood pressure and been told I have to have dialysis and a kidney transplant, and I love bushcraft and so your videos have really helped me get through a lot when I was stuck in hospital, thanks again and God bless
I was laughing out loud at the cows and then remembered the Mrs is asleep so had to choke it back. Spent lots of time on my Grandad's farm growing up, milking, feeding, and herding/chasing cows and they are an animal with great curiosity in their surroundings. I will catch up with the next couple of parts tomorrow, Simon. ATB with thanks for making these vids - sure helps greatly at this time.
All that work Simon and Andy, only to be outdone by a herd of cows 🐄 😁! Oh, and a Go Pro making a bid for freedom! Very enjoyable viewing...thanks chaps 👍
The cows cracked me up, lol. Loved it when they started following you like little puppies and then gathered around the camera to check out what the heck kind of contraption it was, lol. Loved the vid.
My pal bought a boat 6 years ago, we've never used it once I sent him a few of your uploads asking him why we're not out exploring these waters, it's so appealing. Thanks again.
Everytime I watch a video like this, I think its always funny when I see you guys walking away from the camera because I know someone has to walk back and get the camera.
Great start to the trip! Reminiscent of Swallows and Amazons in the feel of this video. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to parts 2 & 3. Tack så mycket, Steve.
Ahoy, Simon. Really a nice kayak tour, but the best thing was the scene when you fished out the GoPro. Thumbs up for your commitment. Greetings from Germany. Azze
Those cows were great - it was my dslr that they were interested in, well, the microphone on top, it was soaked with cow slobber by the time I retrieved it!! Xx
Watching the evening meal scene I was waiting for a quick “blast” of blazing saddles or blazing paddles maybe...great video dude as always...off on the Fowey this weekend myself ..later
Hi Si, only recently discovered your channel matey. I’ve only been subscribed for a couple of days or so. But you have a fantastic channel my friend and you’re a top bloke all round by what I’ve seen so far. Thanks for all your efforts mate, it really is appreciated and you really are doing fabulous work and the content is just great! Very best regards, Dazza, South Cheshire, born & bread.
Loved that Simon. It was like being young lads again negotiating the obstacles - wading through nettles. I have done a fair few stealth camps and one thing to look out for are fields with no livestock - not just because of the livestock but because you know the farmer isn't coming in early morning checking on them. Aaah, I would have relished that. Good going. Mark
Haha - cheers Mark, yes, nothing worse than an angry farmer first thing in the morning! It was a wonderful trip and Andy was great company! Thanks buddy! Atb mate, Simon.
Ahhh! Beautiful English countryside. I miss your wonderful country and the area you're in. I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath near Thetford and did a lot of match fishing on and near the Norfolk Broads...caught some huge pike up there, one being 22 pounds using a large silver lure. My English mate caught a 27 pounder on live bait. Loved this video and the shot of the cows was priceless :)) Hope Andy didn't suffer too long...helluva sneeze! Great canoe trip...wish I had thought about doing that. Incredible fun. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks Alexander! Lakenheath is only about 20 miles away from me - small world eh? Glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some memories. I’m a hopeless fisherman haha - I like the idea, especially when you can eat what you catch, I’m just not very good at it!! Thanks for stopping by, Atb, Simon.
Loved it Simon!....thats the only way to travel...glad you retrieved your Gopro...great to travel with a mate, Andy seems a good sort. Always fun getting through those narrows n shallows...sweepers n strainers keep a boatman on his toes! Them Cows were funny as all get out LOL...they all wanted to get in on the adventure...and so they did! I don't reckon iv'e ever seen a batch of nettles that dense...Dang! Getting a late start on my Saturday hike...i'll catch part two of your adventure when i get back...atb...woods
Thanks woods! They were the funniest cows I’ve come across, inquisitive and not an ounce of shyness! Andy was great company on this trip, it’s usually just me and Maggie as you know, so having some human company was welcome - he’s a top bloke! I’ve got some serious video catch-up to do, I’ve been so busy building my kitchen and then getting ready for this trip, I’ve got a backlog of videos to watch - yours included!! Cheers matey, Atb, Simon.
Just started watching this great channel and Andy's at Kent Survival. Look at Any's hair! So long. I wonder how long it took him to grow it? And now he has it so short. Just comes with age.(lol!)
As I said on andy's video two great channels coming together cracking video what a gutter having to jump into the river at the start to get ya gopro back😂😂 looking forward to seeing your next part of the trip atb jimmy 😎 😎
Apart from the stunning river shots and those adorable cows, I think your greatest contribution to humanity might be the ultimate deterrent to obesity in your culinary segment. It looked about as appetising as the thought of eating warmed-up beef madras that had been vomited on a pavement outside a dodgy Indian restaurant by an aged, worm-riddled alcoholic. Just the sort of thing to refresh the new series of Masterchef.
Hahahaha - that made me laugh so much I nearly produced exactly what you described!! I like to do my bit - I’m thinking of applying to be a weight watchers ambassador! 😂😂
Me and 4 mates done a similar trip 2 weeks ago. Got in the river not far from Needham and kayaked down to Homersfield and camped at the Black Swan, food at the pub was spot on and a great landlord. Next day kayaked down to Bungay. Brilliant weekend.
Nice one! Sounds like a good trip, you avoided the worst of the shallows too! Nice to know the grub is good in the Swan, I’ve not eaten in there. Did you camp down by the river and fire area? 🏕🛶
Cooking with the dehydrated beans reminds me of what I cooked the last couple nights. Not camping. Now all I can think of is juicy steak pub lunch.Hopefully yours turned out better.
Nicely done pal, you even took your hat off. It’s so nice to see that there’s one other person in the world that vac packs anything that doesn’t move :)
Well, I didn’t want to get it wet - it’s bad enough having a Betty boo haircut without making it wet too haha! I did get a bit carried away - it’s amazing what can be vac packed! Atb mate.
Simon, a bloke in the woods I vac pack a separate line into each meal with three matches! And my motorbike tool first aid kit is waterproof to 30,000 fathoms. Beat that for nerdy ;)
Well, I said mill race, but actually there is another channel that flows under the old mill (all private and very un-canoe friendly!!) I guess this was once the main channel!
I knew I had seen some of this before lol I seen it on your your friend's TH-cam hahaha I remember the nosy cute cows 😄😄 oh and yours is a great video too 😊
Good to see two people enjoying the challenges in the outside world, surprised the water level was down hasn't England been subjected to some rather wet weather recently?
Cheers Trev, we did have a load of rain - only a few weeks ago I was wading through a flood plain on the Peddars way!! It’s amazing how quickly things go the other way. Atb, Simon.
Great Video, really enjoyed it. Surprised you didn't stay in the field with the nettles though, think of the amount of Tea you could have made. ATB Wayne
Another lovely video. Not sure there are many nice calm rivers like that up here in the Lake District, my only real experience with them has been ghyll scrambling which involved climbing up a waterfall. Nice to see you're finally getting some monetisation going too on your videos. As an aside, good time of year to make some elderflower cordial, I made some the other day for the first time, turned out lovely. Keep up the good work mate.
Cheers Euan, All our rivers are pretty calm - Norfolk is as flat as a pancake! I’d love to do a bit of white water paddling! I’ve been noticing all the elder in flower - mmmm, might need to have a little go! Atb mate,Simon.
Well done Simon and Andy a really nice film. Peaceful relaxing paddle. This is I think the first ever film I’ve seen of Simon without a hat on? The cows certainly seemed interested in you camera, talking of which Simon, after your comment re picture quality on you DLSR, I’ve invested in a mirror-less Sony a6300 and associated accessories! Your bloody TH-cam channel is making a poor old pensioner very poor!! Whatever you do don’t tell Kath!!!! If you ever have any advise about upgrading and making better quality films please keep it to yourself! ⛺️
Ah! Sorry about that Mike 📷 - I’m sure it’ll be worth it though - just tell Kath it’s for business use. Yes, had to remove my hat, was worried it’d get wet haha. Glad you enjoyed it! Atb, Simon.
This bloody man Simon has had me buying a new camera after telling me he finds his DSLR gives him better quality film! I’m over a £1000 poorer! Don’t listen to him, he’ll cost you a small fortune! Stick to your bike. ⛺️
LOL! I dropped an item whilst canoeing near the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser River, there is no bloody way at all that I could have retrieved it!!! I would love to canoe and camp in a bear-free area like yours. Time to dust off the passport.
Haha - I watched a video a while ago about a bloke that free-dives into popular river spots. He found a whole bunch of go-pro cameras and cell phones - most still working once they were charged up! 😁 Yes, we are very fortunate over here - no predators to worry about.
Excellento...great bit of filming and you both seem to be enjoying the trip. I did wonder how long it would take before you decided to return for the camera as the cattle were getting a bit curious lol! Aye, great stuff...cheers 👍
Vacuum packed baked beans????? News flash: shares in Spam skyrocket!! AS ever great videos, always enjoy the canoeing....been to Ountney Meadow for a recce to do part of the Waveney............On tenderhooks for the wood boat......
2nd attempt.... yes, re wooden boat, we mentioned it following discussion on your beautiful boat. Due v soon. Am hopeless with wood, so it being made by Nick at Westons, Norwich ...lovely bloke. Boat due soon, but also paddling Barton Broad in a few days, with partner, "glamping" again in our bell tent. Keep up the good work, just love your trips in the canoe.....
Ah! Yes, I just didn’t join the dots!! I am absolutely chuffed for you receiving your new boat! And in the meantime, have a great time on the broads!! 🛶😁
Haha - not just me then!! None of them very long, but they’re there in abundance! It’s all the weirs, sluices and mills in our case, rather than rapids and links between lakes. Apparently you can almost canoe (with portages) right across Canada from one side to the other (almost!) 😁
not sure what the laws are where you live, but you are in all this beautiful water and yet I have never seen you fishing?? Fried fish makes a wonderful camp meal!
You are not wrong there! It was like a jungle at points haha! The water level was particularly low - usually you can just float over most of the obstacles. Cheers buddy, Simon.
Ooh Simon, ooh, ooh, Kent Survival, a bit of a sinister character and dark horse if you ask me!!! ( only joking of course, ha, ha, ). Apart from him, a good video, lol, thanks again mate, thanks...
Those cows followed me and my bro for ages when we paddled along there. My grandad had a heard when I was a kid so I love seeing them. It’s a shame the chap who owned the land at syleham died last year because he was the sort of chap who would make sure those fallen trees were cleared. He used to organise an annual mini regatta along the stretch leading up to the mill. Judging by your video I think I’ll skip scole and Head to Mendham when I finally get out on the water. Talking of that, I’m well up for us going for a paddle. Would an evening work with you as it’s still quite light til gone half 9?
Ah, that would explain the state of the river there! It was definitely clear the last time I paddled it! Loved those cows. An evening paddle sounds good to me, could do with a bit more water in the river haha! Cheers buddy, Simon.
If you don’t mind me asking, what model is that green monster of your’s? The reason I ask, I’ve recently rehabilitated a 15” Pelican. Removed the plastic seats and installed hand made wood seats and thwarts. She’s kinda pretty if I do say so. Always enjoy your work. A real treat! Thank you! Cheers
I haven't finished your film yet, but first question. Why did you not strip down more? You could have stopped filming all the "nasty bits" 😉. Years ago I dropped my keys in a "manure blender". I ran down and stopped the engine that powered the pump. The blender was a 3 meter high 3 m wide steel container with about .5 m manure left in it. I was pumping out the manure when I dropped my keys. What to do next? First I checked that the water rap was OK. Looked around, nobody insight. Put a ladder in the mixer, stripped down into my Adam costume, got in (keeping my breath), had the keys in 10 sec. Threw them out, climbed out , washed myself and got back into my dry and clean clothes. Then I picked up and cleaned my keys. Looking forward to the rest of this vid.
Lots of packaging for lots of carbs.. Meat will go much further but needs to be day1/2 food but if you must eat such things how about muesli /oatmeal in a bag that can cover 3 meals rather than vacuum packaging packets for separate meals & even different size tubs that can be put inside each other once empty so your re using them but not carrying bulk.. If you vacuum some thin sliced frozen steak then foil it then it lasts long & will be easily chopped for cooking & fills you for longer so you only eat2 meals daily. Carbs & fruits snacks will need constant snacking & requires 3 meals daily plus snacks.
Yeah, I got a bit carried away with the vac pac machine!! It was a bit carb heavy, but the meals were enjoyable - I prefer to eat three meals a day, stop, relax and enjoy for a bit. Steak would have been nice though!
What were the portages avoiding? Are there lots of small dams or are those the shallows. There seems to be a rush of water in the background. The cows were hilarious!
Hi Sam, they were avoiding a variety of Weirs and Sluices that are built to manage the river during flooding and periods of low water, usually a drop or chute of some sort often with underwater obstructions - some, you can shoot, but others not. Cheers, Simon
Simon, a bloke in the woods cheers pal I'm going to get a canoe and practice. And that will be awesome can't wait. And this is one of my favourite channels. Atb john
Cheers Ryan, yes, you are quite right, Scotland it is for ‘legal’ wildcamping. In England you need to use a bit of stealth and common sense - we camped on fallow land next to the river, used stoves for cooking for minimal impact and left absolutely no trace except for trampled grass, leaving our spot early in the morning. I’m not condoning wild camping without permission, it’s just what we chose to do! I hope you have a great trip to Scotland - I’m jealous!! Atb,Simon.
yer its annoying how in small creeks like that how some places are ok to paddle in and other places you are bottoming out or tangled up in flood derby.
I like England’s canal systems . Very nice Canoe trip .
Love the laughter and the cows.

Haha - they’re great aren’t they! 😁
Ken B that's great😄. Those cute babies had me rewinding for five minutes🥰
What lovely cows ! New TH-cam fans !
Cow's were hilarious 😂
All that work Simon and Andy, only to be outdone by a herd of cows 🐄 😁! Oh, and a Go Pro making a bid for freedom! Very enjoyable viewing...thanks chaps 👍
Cue the cows! Brilliant!
So weird seeing Simon without a hat on 😂 loving the cows ha ha

Cheers mate! Those cows were amazing weren’t they!! I hope the hayfever has cleared u a bit!! An amazing trip mate, thank you!
The cow shots were my favorite too
I actually ducked while watching. Those low bridges and trees were a challenge. Great adventure.
I love it when you and Andy adventure together. Loved the cows
Mind that bridge, what bridge... bang! so funny, great vid
Hahaha, well, it was a silly place to put a bridge anyway! Cheers, Simon.
9:46 - “that’s what he said!” Lol!! Great vid, I love both channels, great to see you guys doing a collaboration and having fun!! Part 2 next!
Cheers Jeff, glad you enjoyed it! Atb, Simon.
Everytime I watch a video like this, I think its always funny when I see you guys walking away from the camera because I know someone has to walk back and get the camera.
Cheers Tom - that’s the story of my life!! 😂😂😁
Thanks for taking us along on your adventure! Loved the cows... lol
They were great weren’t they! Thanks for coming along! Atb, Simon.
Brilliant, fair play that stream was just that...overgrown was an understatement!! Great start hope the river opens up for you soon.
Cheers Martin! It was like a jungle - pretty brutal at times, but fun! Andy kept having spiders drop on him. Hehehe.
Simon, a bloke in the woods no wonder you took the plastic boat the scraping noise coming of it going over that weir...😵
Great start to the trip! Reminiscent of Swallows and Amazons in the feel of this video. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to parts 2 & 3. Tack så mycket, Steve.
Thanks Steve! It certainly felt like an adventure haha! It was a great trip. Cheers mate, Simon.
another nice video THANKS
"All good fun!" - excellent motto, when faced with challenges!
That looks so fun! I want to try an adventure just like this
Ahoy, Simon. Really a nice kayak tour, but the best thing was the scene when you fished out the GoPro. Thumbs up for your commitment. Greetings from Germany. Azze
Thanks Azze - I was very happy to find it! Andy lost his the following day - but again we managed to find it!! It was a great trip, Atb matey, Simon.
“Tastes better than it looks, just.” Heh, heh...Ha, Ha, well, a great adventure. You were so fortunate to find that GoPro. Well done! Texas

I use my vacpac machine all the time. Love it, especially for saving space.
River weeds lol. Great video Simon.
15:15 was classic. Fab part 1, looking forward to how it all pans out. Good drama with the shallows, camera loss and hay fever. Cheers.
Thanks Mark! It was a great adventure, all the little mishaps added to the fun haha! Those cows were amazing! Cheers, Simon
Fun trip ,thanks for taking us along
Great video. Looking forward to part 2 . The cows are so funny. If you hadn’t found your go pro we couldn’t have seen them x
Those cows were great - it was my dslr that they were interested in, well, the microphone on top, it was soaked with cow slobber by the time I retrieved it!! Xx
'Simon, a bloke who vacuum packs' 😂
Hahaha - if it sits there long enough, it’s getting bagged! Atb, Simon.
Thanks for taking us along.
I appreciate your efforts to share what was obviously a wonderful experience.
Atb, Tim
Wonderful is exactly the right word - it was good fun! Thanks for joining us Tim, Atb.
Watching the evening meal scene I was waiting for a quick “blast” of blazing saddles or blazing paddles maybe...great video dude as always...off on the Fowey this weekend myself ..later
Oh, the blazing saddles scene was reinacted tone perfect haha! Have a nice paddle on the Fowey, not been there for ages!! Atb, Simon.

Now THAT'S a funny video...
The cows made me into a subscriber

Cooking with the dehydrated beans reminds me of what I cooked the last couple nights. Not camping. Now all I can think of is juicy steak pub lunch.Hopefully yours turned out better.

If it wouldn't have been so expensive, dinner was trying to follow you to camp! 🤣🐮
😂😂😂
Good stuff
first time i've seen you do that dude, @ 13:35 the camera set up to view you two going through the portage point!!! :-)
Great Video, really enjoyed it. Surprised you didn't stay in the field with the nettles though, think of the amount of Tea you could have made. ATB Wayne

Interesting to see the contrast of filming/editing styles and shot selection. You've got me thinking of trading in the bike for a canoe!
This bloody man Simon has had me buying a new camera after telling me he finds his DSLR gives him better quality film! I’m over a £1000 poorer! Don’t listen to him, he’ll cost you a small fortune! Stick to your bike. ⛺️

Hahaha! SPAM! Are you getting a wooden canoe? The Waveney is a lovely river to paddle, a bit choked up this time of year, but still nice!
message disappeared will redo .............
I had no idea that we had places to portage in our country! I thought that was only Canada! 😂 I’m watching too much Joe Robinet
Haha - not just me then!! None of them very long, but they’re there in abundance! It’s all the weirs, sluices and mills in our case, rather than rapids and links between lakes. Apparently you can almost canoe (with portages) right across Canada from one side to the other (almost!) 😁
Simon, a bloke in the woods Canada looks fantastic doesn’t it. I like watching My Self Reliance.
not sure what the laws are where you live, but you are in all this beautiful water and yet I have never seen you fishing?? Fried fish makes a wonderful camp meal!
Thanks Lee, the problem is that I’m a terrible fisherman!! 😂👍
Awesome..
Looks like fun
It was! Tough going at times, but fun! Atb.
That isn't a easy stream! 🛶
You are not wrong there! It was like a jungle at points haha! The water level was particularly low - usually you can just float over most of the obstacles. Cheers buddy, Simon.
Loved it ill subscribe
Cheers and thanks for the sub! Atb, Simon.
At least ya didn't have to keep an eye out fer gators and Cottonmouths like i have to do in my "neck of the woods" under similar circumstances!
Haha - no, just shopping carts and lumps of concrete! 😂😂
Ooh Simon, ooh, ooh, Kent Survival, a bit of a sinister character and dark horse if you ask me!!! ( only joking of course, ha, ha, ).
Apart from him, a good video, lol, thanks again mate, thanks...
oi! ;) haha
The only sinister thing about Andy is the way he says ‘spam’ haha! Cheers buddy, Simon.
'SPAAAAAMMMMM'
like the vids keep it up
Thanks Tony! 👍
LOL at cow photobombs!
Great creatures aren’t they! 😂👍
Oh, Andy still had his horse tail
Old school Andy! 😁
@@simonablokeinthewoods look at you man , still looking at comments on your older videos. Cheers
Has Andy got an XR2i?
Thank you!
Cheers
Thanks mate!
It’s a Waterquest 14, a heavy, flexible 14’ warthog of a boat!
Loving the sound of what you’ve done to that old pelican! 👍
For some reason, light rain always makes my hay fever much worse, I think it washes to pollen down from the higher atmosphere.
Get yourself a Go Pro Floaty!
Good advice hahaha!!
Awesome video pal. I really need to get on the water. Could I ask what canoe that is please? Atb john
Cheers John! It’s a waterquest 14, I haven’t forgotten about our paddle some day either! Atb buddy.
Simon, a bloke in the woods cheers pal I'm going to get a canoe and practice. And that will be awesome can't wait. And this is one of my favourite channels. Atb john
How do you wild camp? I was under the impression the only place you could do that was scotland? (which is where I'm kayaking end of the month)
Atb,Simon.
ryan fairweather : Resist Much Obey Little ⛺️
no harm no foul eh? Like it. Might have to keep my eyes open in Essex for a spot or 2. Great videos.
You only need crocodiles moving into the river with the overhanging trees
Hahaha - no crocodiles in England thankfully!
yer its annoying how in small creeks like that how some places are ok to paddle in and other places you are bottoming out or tangled up in flood derby.
15:15 - “hey you forgot your camera thingy!!”
Haha, they were great weren’t they!
Andy wins limbo because we can't see your moves🏆
I hit my head hahaha - he definitely wins!
you might want a tether on your cameras, and some rice in a container the camera would fit in, even a ziplock might work and can eat some of the rice
I'd stay away from those lettles too, much too big and old for what I'd want them for
Cheers Kaylynn, certainly too big and stringy for eating, but good for making string (if you’ve got a few hours spare hahaha!) Atb, Simon.
