- Watch Chris Newhouse, Executive Director of Sustainability for MATTER, and Noah Elhardt from The Beer-Sheba Project in Senegal discuss the benefits of Chaya in Africa and why they believe this nutritional powerhouse of a plant is the answer to fight malnutrition.
The ten co-ops will be located in marginalized areas where resources are scarce and food is hard to grow. Each co-op will consist of thirty women. The $5,000 per site cost includes 300 Chaya cuttings, training for growing and cooking Chaya, health and nutrition education, equipment and supplies, fencing, a water system and transportation. Regular follow-up visits by trainer Silent Keseke will help to ensure the co-ops' success and sustainability.
“In many ways, this is like a green meat. It provides a lot of the same nutrients, but in a form that people can grow in their backyards with really minimal input, even in places where they don’t have supplemental water.” - Noah Elhardt, Head of Agricultural Education,The Beer-Sheba Project

I absolutely adore this subtropical tree, i grow it in Attica GR 🇬🇷 and eat it, i make a drink from the leaves called agua de chaya, water of chaya.
It's drought tolerant, easy to propagate and a superfood.
Highly recommend to grow it.
The Chaya is ancestral food and now will be the future food.
Thanks for this video.
Wow, God bless you all for devoting your time doing good deeds
Please come Jamaica with it
Get your plants at thuru Boralesgamuwa in Sri lanka
What about katuk? Highly abundant at least in rainy conditions. Unsure if drought tolerant. Would it grow there?
These guys are geniuses
You should try Okinawa Spinach you don’t have to cook it and has no cyanide.
Is it difficult to grow in the tropical zone like Thailand
Also seems to need cooler, rainy conditions. @@thimamaipang6314
I was wondering (being called the Spinach Tree) if the leaves contain oxalates like spinach?

Do you also plant Moringa as its a superfood and a drought tolerant plant with edible leaf - Flowers - green Pods and dry seeds. Pumpkin leaf and sweet Potato leaf is also very nutritious. Even Banana stem and Banana flower and green Jackfruit.
Thanks for your comments!
Not for human consumption but it seems Gliciridia would be nice also Grows fast, wood can be used for fuel or wicker, leaves for feeding livestock and insect repellant, green manure, etc. I've seen a vid of a project somewhere in Africa growing them.
This thing grows fast in Arizona also.
