    I received my Medcline Shoulder system pillow yesterday. I was excited to try it out so after I washed the pillow cover I set it up. I let it fluff up first. I was trying to find a good position and a placement for my arm. I woke with a tad less pain in my shoulders but as with any change it wasn't a smooth sailing night. After watching your video I went and got one of my small and soft pillows and tried out the position with the extra pillow. I found my ideal comfortable position with that pillow. THANK YOU!!!

    Very good review. I have this exact pillow and yes, you do have to play around with it because everyone’s body is unique. I too had to add a pillow for my head. For me in my opinion, it’s not the type of pillow you would use every night in place of your original pillow. When my shoulder is hurting, I will use this pillow combination for a few nights. Yes, it does get warm. I believe it’s the memory foam that is the culprit. The cover has a zipper so you can add a folded cotton sheet where your ribs meet the memory foam. The body contour pillow is heavy to maneuver around. I’m 5’2” and slightly overweight; if that helps.

    Thank you for the review. I received my second MedCline pillow today, my old one is 4 years old. I love it. Yes, it can take a while to get everything set up the way that works best for your particular sleeping position. The "filling" in the body pillow can be moved to where you want more support or move it away from where you need less.

    Thanks for your video. I also saw this as a facebook ad and I'm thinking about getting this pillow. Within the past week or so, I've started having sharp pain in my right shoulder after about 1-2 hours of sleep and the pain wakes me up every night. I would then take Tylenol which would subside the pain so I could go back to sleep. I feel no pain at all when I'm sitting upright or standing, although I feel a little tight. I sleep on my left side due to I use a cpap machine on this side of the bed. The pain was very bad the past few nights so I was able to find the ad again and I'm about to buy this pillow because I feel it may be my best choice. Everything you described and explained makes sense to me, so thanks again for the upload.

    This review was so detailed and useful! I am a little concerned about height because some online reviews say that short people slide off, but I’m 5’4” like you so this gave me enough information to decide that it’s worth trying.

    Thank you for the review. It seems like a lot of trouble for a pillow, despite the awesome idea behind it. I wonder why someone doesn't make beds with a well or hole for your arm to go through; it seems you could get shoulder relief and still have your spine in alignment on a mattress if they made one for this. There is a mattress called the "Cuddle Mattress" which allows your arm to go through gaps in the mattress.

    • @taylormcnair4944

      Great question! I've got to look into the Cuddle Mattress!

      Exactly. I was thinking of cutting a "trench" in out mattress after reading lots of reviews with a lot being negative.

    • @superbri007
      @superbri007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just to revisit this... I had mine for the trial period, and ultimately returned it. I'm sure it's great for reflux sufferers, but the angle to get that benefit AND shoulder relief while sleeping on my side was causing my low back to be at too great an angle from my lower spine. The only way I could describe how I think mine spine looked from the side, is with an analog clock with the hour hand on 3 PM, and the minute hand at 50-55. That caused me additional pain, enough to prompt me to return it.

    • @micheleochoa8502
      @micheleochoa8502 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@superbri007 Do you think the 15% incline (for reflux) instead of the 10% for shoulder may have mitigated the need for that supplemental pillow?

    • @micheleochoa8502
      @micheleochoa8502 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Currently trying out the reflux system for my shoulder pain. I did the 30 day trial and had some low back discomfort. I then made a phone appnt with one of their Sleep Specialist who had great recommendations and was very knowledgeable. They sent me a small instead of the medium and I’m trying that now though the incline still seems too severe.
      I was super impressed with their customer service so if you are on the fence, just know follow through with the trial. Their website lists a potential $25 return fee but I believe that’s only if you end up not finding a solution and need to return for a full refund.
      The body pillow is absolute magic. I’ve tried the all and this one is by far the best though even at 5’3”, I’d have appreciated more length to stabilize the knee and leg as was mentioned in this video.
      I’ll try and remember to update here!

    Very helpful review. I received mine today and found it difficult to decompress my shoulder/elbow but found that if I rotate somewhat back into the body pillow (into the body pillow resting on my back away from the shoulder) this decompresses it nicely. I have calcific tendonitis and frozen shoulder and any "wrong" movement in the night wakes me up, so I'm optimistic that this might be a solution, especially with the "extra pillow hack" that you recommend.

I have mild sleep apnea and have been told to try to sleep on my side but can't figure out a comfortable place for the arm closest to the bed so I was checking this out on those grounds. I got one of these the first week of January 2021. The first time I used it I had my first pain free night of sleep in a couple years. That is no exaggeration. This MedCline system is a win win situation for me and I can't see sleeping without it. I can now sleep the entire night without being awakened with shoulder pain. I do alternate from left to right and back again during the night, but that is no bid deal. It is well worth the price. The only thing I would add would be to have a covering for the wedge and for the pillow. We use pillow cases for our pillows why not one for this system?

    Due to a disc problem in my back Medcline suggested I speak to my doctor before I purchase the pillow system. Using the measurements, where my disc is located & the fact that I can return it to Medcline my doctor felt I should give it a try. I also suffer from right shoulder problems & have to wear a Bipap if I sleep on my back. I've got a memory foam bed so I'm very aware of the process of breaking it in. The 1st night I didn't use the pillow because I wanted to see if I could tolerate the wedge & bean. Did ok but decided I needed the pillow too. This is morning five after using the system all night every night & here's where I'm at. Doesn't bother my disc because my height & length of the wedge still keep my spine perfectly straight (had my granddaughter check while I was laying on it). My shoulder has not hurt since. Bonus, my hips which cause me to turn throughout the night do not hurt. My knees which are also a problem do not hurt. I'm not requiring as much sleep. I wake up rejuvenated & well rested at 63yo. I'm not having to use my Bipap (only because my sleep apnea is obstructive. Do not stop using your Bipap/Cpap without your Dr's permission). I'm absolutely appreciative of this sleep system. I only see it getting better as it breaks in. The only one who disliked it is my Service Dog because he's used to sleeping next to me. He's a little guy so I figured out how to tuck him in there with me & now everyone is happy. Plus, got it on sale. I haven't felt this physically good in years.

    I just got mine. I am taller (6'3") so the body pillow does fall a bit short for leg support. I did not een think about the neck position, but I like your suggestion and think that should help. I am trying to rehabilitate a frozen should that isn't responding well to my exercises. If you have a shoulder that hurts, getting into the proper place is going to require using that shoulder as scoot yourself along the incline. The pillow is large and a bit awkward, so if you sleep with someone else, you may be disrupting them anytime you have to adjust (adjusting can be a bit of a chore between the body pillow and the incline). My wife works nights, so I have opted to use only the body pillow on nights when we're together to minimize the space I am taking and facilitate transitions and I use the whole system when I have the bed to myself.

    Received mine today, and was a little overwhelmed! This is HUGH! And if you are like me and make your bed everyday, this can be an issue too, as I don't really have the room to store it anywhere. It is also a bit warm to lay on so I will have to see if I can overcome my OCD and my comfort level at night. I will try it out. This video does bring up a few issues that you may struggle with

    Thanks so much for your detailed presentation! I ordered and now have the medcline pillow because I have severe right shoulder pain. I know I will have to try many things to reduce the horrible pain I experience after attempting a full night sleep in a bed. Cortisone did nothing and the sharp pain persists especially when changing positions and in the morning. I am hoping I can avoid surgery.

      Hi! thanks for following up! My MRI results as explained by Doctor - No rotator cuff tearing but with tendinosis, Arthritis and 2 pieces of ossified intra-artcular bodies in the subcoracoid bursa causing irritation with a host of many other 'not good' age and past injury anomalies. Surgery is currently not a real necessity and I can give it a chance to heal with some light therapy. The pillow is not effective for me at this point. It elevates my head and upper torso and is not comfortable for me as a side sleeper. I think it might be good for preventing damage to the shoulder in general. My cat likes it though :) A good nights sleep is still the challenge now. I will try the pillow again when my condition improves and let you know how it goes.

    My review: 60 year old male, 23 BMI. The body pillow was useless for me. The wedge with the cut out has some merit and I am keeping it. However I had to shim up the wedge with a 30 inch long 1""x6" a few inches below the opening, as the height as shipped was not high enough for my shoulders. Many additional pillows were needed to dial in the height for my head to rest on.

I have tried arm out the side hole and this happens when my arm hangs off the the side of the queen-size bed (got to leave my wife some room on her side). This doesn't happen in a hotel on a substitute stack of pillows, but the other problems return. The pain is even worse when I bend my elbow up in the head pillow hole. Very patchy, nothing immediate but after a day+ or 2, and nothing noted on my children that hopped in the bed after each waking from their sleep. I'm thinking I grabbed something into/from laundry, and so I'm washing the new pillow per its tag, in case I in fact introduced traces of an irritant like urushiol to it that evening with standard cleanups. I can say how it washes in an hour or so. It's very densely packed (and lined) chopped foam, inserted into the thicker winding shape. I was not planning to test the make of it so early, but I was very happy to notice no noxious chemical odors from it.

    I was interested in this but it's expensive...but that's ok provided it's a good product and the company is customer service oriented. Unfortunately, I did not want the white cases. SO, initially I thought, no problem as they sell the grey and blue covers and when I looked at the site, they sell ALL COLORS for the same amount of money (white, grey and blue).
    SO, I reached out and asked if I could get the whole system ($250 & $310) but with the darker colors. NOPE! They said they would not accommodate me. I asked why not, if the colored covers are the same price? No good reason - they just don't. I then asked if I bought the cheaper version (1 system with 1 set of covers @ $250, could they sell me the colored covers for the $60 difference ($310-$250 = $60)? Again, the answer was NO - the price is $80 ($35 + $45).
    In the end, I had to pass because they were not helpful. These are NOT inexpensive and if they sell all covers for the same price, why would I have to pay extra for the colored ones? Just swap them out...simple and get another happy customer. And yes, there is a 20% coupon that they seem to offer perpetually but the issue is the same - the discount applies to either the system or the individual pieces, so that does not really help with the issue.

      Those are tricky problems Gina! The more comfortable you can get, the less likely you might be to move. Numbness in the arm is usually related to tension on the nerves or blood vessels some where between the neck and the arm. I hope that helps a little!

    How much strain does this cause in the lower back (L4-L5, L5-S1)? Would you say it exerts a lot of pressure on the ribs?

    • @taylormcnair4944
      @taylormcnair4944  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! It depends most on how the pillow fits you. If your back is supported on the incline then less strain will be at the lower lumbar spine and more at the hip. If your back is not on the pillow (probably because you're taller) then you may have a little side bending and therefore strain. I found it uncomfortable on my ribs only for the first night. They do say that the foam takes some breaking in. I'm not sure, but there may be different sizes depending on your height. I hope that's helpful!

    Hi Taylor (or anyone with experience based advice) - you seem to know quite a bit about the subject. Thanks for the review, i am considering ordering this. I have bad shoulder's - in particular my right. I also have mild sleep apnea and i do crossfit quite a bit 8 years and i am competing at the games a 2nd time in 2021. For what its worth, my shoulder pain was dramatically worse before starting crossfit and has mostly been fixed by strengthening the muscles. I have chosen to avoid surgery or any medical treatment so far. High volume training aggravates my shoulder, but really i think what does the most damage is at night I tend to come out of side sleep position and end up with my hands behind my head (almost fingers interlaced style) and laying on my back. I have to carefully bring my right arm back down to my side to avoid pain. This pain seems to be caused by getting in this position with the shoulder a little "out of its normal track"
    Any ideas on how to stop myself from continually reverting to this position. Side sleeping hurts a bit but not too bad.. The medcline shoulder system seems worth a try, but it sure seems like quite a lot to go through to find a place for your shoulder at night.

    I just unboxed mine, and I'm wondering, is the long part of the body pillow supposed to be "broken" or is it supposed to be a single stiff pillow? Like, the "u-shape" is one piece of foam, but then on the long end, there's like... maybe a separate pillow in there, creating a joint... is that normal? Or is it a defect (broken piece of foam)?

    • @taylormcnair4944
      @taylormcnair4944  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if there are different pieces of foam. There is the curve or hook for your neck, and then yes, there is another angle along the longer piece. I think this is meant to be there to tuck between your legs. Curious to hear how it works for you. Did you get it for shoulder pain? Thanks for your comment!

    • @tamaszsebe3730
      @tamaszsebe3730 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@taylormcnair4944 Yup I got it for shoulder comfort. I'm a side sleeper, so I have to do weird things with my arms to be comfortable, and often have numbness. I also have loose shoulder joints that injure easily. Been looking for a way to sleep more comfortably, in a position that isn't putting strain on things.
      After one night, this seems to be workable for shoulders (though sticking the arm through the hole still pinches a bit around my armpit... I can figure that out).
      ... but at 6'5, it limits my usual approaches to lower body comfort. I may be a side sleeper, but I'm usually "partially rolled" towards my stomach, resting on the top leg's knee ("sideways captain morgan", or... "the tripod"...) because if my legs are stacked, I eventually start having knee/hip pain from the position.
      I can't get into the tripod position when my upped body is on an incline, because then it puts too much of a bend into my lumbar, and is really uncomfortable for my back.
      I'm hoping I can just reinforce the body pillow's leg portion (like you said, it's a bit flimsy for taller folks). Maybe I need a pillow pillar next to it, so I can extend my top knee and have it rest on top, without having to partly roll over... if that makes sense. :)
      Thanks for your reply!

      @@tamaszsebe3730 This is a good point about the position you like for your lower body. I'm wondering if you could tuck the foam straight back through your legs, closer to your hip/groin, then use a king size pillow to support the rest of your top leg with it stacked on the bottom? I'll try to make a video of this soon. Thanks!

      @@tamaszsebe3730 Have you found the pillow more convenient? FSAstore sells just the long twist body form without the wedge for their system, so I'm trying options outside pt sessions I'd look to persist at points. I've come across the 4 pillow standard for side sleepers, and confronted the oddly suprising (as in: how can we be surprised when we think about it) pelvic rotation after years of whatever-sleeping among other routine activities only brought to consideration with persisting pain onsets. 4 pillows is an intense layout. This is a big pillow but maybe trimmer arrangement. The only spot missing is the ankles it seems, but I was happy to find an option to stay in place for relieving the hip area, and this seems to overcome the obstacle of a misplaced hip wedge very well. Rather than looping my arm, since I've habituated lengthening my arms to my knees in sleep to alleviate cuboid inner elbow region, I found the height of the pillow immensely keen for allowing space between the neck and a shoulder that can rest well within it. Movement didn't destabilize the availability of the pillow supports. I wasn't looking at keeping my ankles in place but will pay attention to that now too. Without the wedge slope tho, the side sleep seemed a little less complicated...
