All things considered it came out fairly nice sounding. I was involved in the audio and video recording that night and the protools editing later. Guthrie was not happy with his playing that night so the DVD release got scrapped.
@flowerdrop1 I think that guthrie on this track played as Guthrie. This is fusion, not pure jazz. and this is genius. A standard jazz solo can be played by a normal guy, not by a so talented musician. He puts all himself in what you hear, I felt this even when he wasn't talking about music. He is emotive. :) sorry for my poor english.
Sax is king in jazz (a major blues here), few guitar players can actually match the freedom of improvisation that sax allows...Wes, Joe (Pass) and maybe a couple others have achieve this hard task !
@azsxdcfvd as guthrie would say.. "eh, i have a short answer for that... No, i just play the music I thought was proper at the time and think another way to conquer the world"
@mikkomikkimikko Where in the bible does it say: Singing is the highest form of praying? Nowhere. You read it again, or read it for the first time, I don't know.
Can anyone tell me the name of the bass player? And btw if I could ever end up in a band like this... I´m telling you, I wouldnt need anything else. Not even food or sleep :)
Anyone else not feeling Guthrie's tone when hes vamping? He's going for that church organ sound.. . . I just wanna here a GUITAR. Might be just me, never was a fan of that sound.
@mikkomikkimikko I have read the bible. But the bible has talking snakes and people walking on water in it and is thus fictional. And by the way: Nowhere in the bible does it say: Music is the highest form of prayer.
@azsxdcfvd no, never. he's a musician, and therefore is critical of every piece of music he has ever written or played... just like every other REAL musician.
5:05 -Black night.
5:26 - Smoke on the water.
6:55 - Birdland
For all the people who don't know the song, it's by Stevie Wonder from the amazing album Songs In The Key Of Life. Cannot recommend it highly enough!
Have a talk with Godthrie LOL
super cool, nice effect on the guitar
Drums (Pete Riley) Sax (Zak Barrett) Guitar(We all know who he is :)) Bass (Seth Govan, Guthrie's brother)
thank you for this post!
Fuckin wicked.. Tasteful and a cool alternative instrumental cover of a brilliant tune.
5:26 - dammit, he CAN play "Smoke on the Water"!
CJ Araneta ten seconds before he just played lazy
@@maurosarti5153 Black Night wasn't it?

@Kingding6 He was probably rockin' the good ol' circular breathing. Beast.
Wow, that drum kit sounds really good! Hell, the whole band sounds incredible.
All things considered it came out fairly nice sounding. I was involved in the audio and video recording that night and the protools editing later. Guthrie was not happy with his playing that night so the DVD release got scrapped.
IT is so inspiring to see that Scofield`s spirit moves youngers
@DreamFeederTv
He's just so enjoyable to watch and listen to.
que buen Jazz!!! Guthrie Govan RULES!!!
@kfarrow77 The Sax player's name here is Zak Barrett. :)
Guthrie is beyond prolific .. true improv genius who actually THINKS in music (theory) ..
acording to him, he doesn't
oh my god..
amazing!
just great
He mentioned in an interview that John Scofield and Jeff Beck are his biggest influences on fusion guitar playing
Killer sound!!
Amazing!!!😵
Pure magic!

Insane!!!
@buckethead763 yeah just before that they play the black knight riff and then smoke on the water, its awesome
I believed this was a guthrie govan interview for a second
Replying to myself 9 years later. Good times!
@flowerdrop1 I think that guthrie on this track played as Guthrie.

Nice one! :D
Sax is king in jazz (a major blues here), few guitar players can actually match the freedom of improvisation that sax allows...Wes, Joe (Pass) and maybe a couple others have achieve this hard task !
@DreamFeederTv Yeah I seen that too :)
@azsxdcfvd as guthrie would say.. "eh, i have a short answer for that... No, i just play the music I thought was proper at the time and think another way to conquer the world"
The brothers Govan just had a talk with God.
Presumably, He had a talk with himself
@Kingding6 theres a spell where Guthrie Govan's hand doesn't stop moving for like 8 minues...
Those who disliked are going to hell
@inseobkim4067 yep that's an Analogman Chorus :)
WTF! That sort of shit hot must reside at the very top of a mountain light years high. Double WTF!
the saxophonist is insane
But can he play smoke on the wa- oh
do you think guthrie just goes on youtube and listens to his solos and thinks "yeah, i did that solo and it was wicked" =)
theres a spell where Zak Barrett doesnt breathe for like a minute....
Is a CD available somewhere ? I don't like buying dematerialized music
read the title
Gutrhie's solo sounded like Jeff Beck.
@mikkomikkimikko Where in the bible does it say: Singing is the highest form of praying? Nowhere. You read it again, or read it for the first time, I don't know.
Deep Purple!
@pasthefence49 Joshua Redman is black. I am unsure who that sax player is, but he isn't Joshua Redman :-)
Who is the saxophonist?
@mikkomikkimikko Godlike skills? What are you talking about?
@DreamFeederTv you dont need hands to breathe...
05:05 black sabbath
it's Black Night by Deep Purple :)
what effects are going on here?
Can anyone tell me the name of the bass player? And btw if I could ever end up in a band like this... I´m telling you, I wouldnt need anything else. Not even food or sleep :)
Are This songs are their own or this are jazz standards?
that's not supposed to be have a talk with god by stevie wonder, is it?
Am I exaggerating, or is this as good as it gets?
how is Guthrie getting this keyboard-like tone?
organ-like i should say.
He's just that great!!!!!
He's just simply the best man!!!!

@mikkomikkimikko I never defined god as anything, you can't define what isn't real.
Anyone else not feeling Guthrie's tone when hes vamping? He's going for that church organ sound.. . . I just wanna here a GUITAR. Might be just me, never was a fan of that sound.
he is emitating a leslie rotary speaker
@mikkomikkimikko I have read the bible. But the bible has talking snakes and people walking on water in it and is thus fictional.
And by the way: Nowhere in the bible does it say: Music is the highest form of prayer.
@flowerdrop1 Well, weakness in comparison to the rest of his styles. still, even most "jazz" guitarists aren't as good.
@azsxdcfvd no, never. he's a musician, and therefore is critical of every piece of music he has ever written or played... just like every other REAL musician.
xD
@mikkomikkimikko Also, music and god has absolutely no connection. Apparently YOU don't understand music.
Isn't that sax player farting in between?
Don't like the title :P
This is ridiculous
