      There's absolutely no way they can keep doing it and get results, and even as an Arsenal fan I can't dispute the fact that Xhaka has a moment of foolishness almost every game.
      But,
      1) That was harsh today. The game was pretty heated up, give Martinelli 1 yellow there and just calm it down. I can admit both challenges could arguably have been yellows on their own, but man I've never seen just the double whammy like that.
      2) It feels good to get that result in spite of the red. Some gutsy defending and I'm all about it.

      That's obviously because there's an agenda.
      Yellow cards are referred to as "cautions" because it's telling the players that they'll be dismissed if they do it again.
      Martinelli wasn't cautioned because he probably wouldn't have committed the second foul if he was.

    In the rulebook, I can see why it was done but it's completely against the spirit of the game and is reasoned as a technicality. As Mikel said after the game the ref would have to have been very willing to do it to begin with.

    • @nronan3
      @nronan3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      you’re wrong. The yellow card is a punishment for committing a foul, aka breaking the rules that everyone is supposed to know. Martinelli delayed the restart of play which is a yellow 100% of the time and then goes and commits another very obvious yellow card foul. VAR would have said two yellows and red because that’s the rules. Plus, ref played advantage, which tells EVERYONE that a foul had just occurred. Martinelli should know better

      Well in fairness, back in the day you could make modern day red card challenges and as long as you got the ball, it was all good. Nowadays, if you touch a player the wrong way and they flop to the floor, it can be a penalty and a red card.
      In Martinelli's case, they where clearly 2 yellow card offenses. However, the thing is we all know players may stop a passage of play in the form of a tactical foul and take the yellow card because that's better than getting countered without men behind the ball.
      The difference is when players do this, they whether or not they've been booked before. In Marinelli's case, he didn't know he was booked for trying to block the throw...he technically wasn't on a yellow card. But if he knew he was on a yellow card, he wouldn't have stopped the passage of play. This is like double jeopardy.

In the US sports such as baseball or American football if there is an unusual case, the group of umpires or referees will get together to discuss and the commentators will also raise the related rules to explain the audiences at home to understand what's happening and what calls should be made related to the rules. Opinions are not helpful in a situation like this. In the US, there are also unwritten rules that players should know and act to avoid troubles. So the yellow card earned for the foul on the thrower - tell me that is not a foul throw (from the contact from Martinelli) therefore the game should be brought back and a yellow card awarded

    I'm an arsenal fan. I think its the right decision. If I commit a stonewall yellow but advantage occurs. If I know I can't get a yellow again, it gives me cart blange to commit bad challenge with no consequences. Thus, I thibk u have to do it. It sucks and seems unfair, but u can't be allowed to make both challenges.

    It's as clear as day what the referees in the premier league are doing to Arsenal.
    Arsenal players are getting booked for fouls players of other teams are not being booked for.
    For example; Arsenal had 5 players booked last night, Wolves had 2 players booked even though Wolves committed far more fouls in the game than Arsenal.
    Arsenal should make a formal complaint against the English premier league referees.
