WOW!!!! This was awesome, Thank You!!!! I am a member with Cast Boolits, but have not been on a long time......thank you for reminding, need to get back and participate....This was great! Maybe Charlie will allow another member to manufacture them commercially....have a super day from Montana
I have exerted allot of searching to find where I can purchase one of these and I just cannot seem to find where I can buy one of these. Will somebody PLEEEASE (!!!) send me a link to the site where I can order one !!!??? I need one that will work with my Corbin Swaging press.
A gas check is a small cap that fits on the end of your cast bullet. Generally you only need them for cartridges designed for velocities more than approximately 1400 fps which includes most rifle cartridges and even a few pistol cartridges. At the most basic level they protect the cast bullet from the hot gasses while traveling down your barrel. But there are other mechanisms at work as well. Without them you will have problems with leading in your barrel and reduced accuracy.
Just a gesture how much quicker would it be to not have too empty the punch out .maybe flip the punch over and have a bucket for collecting by using gravity instead of working against it 🤔😁😂😆
I'm looking into getting this. I don't have an arbor press. I see that harbor freight has a 1/2 ton and a 1 ton model. Do you think the 1/2 ton would work? I believe it has a 4.5'' height capacity. I'd rather have the smaller one if it would work to conserve space. Thanks for the video, ive seen these but always wondered how well they work.
of all the videos on youtube for making gas checks yours is by far the best, however if you used aluminium slit to 1/2" wide and run it off a small mandrel you would save yourself a lot of time using the guillotine, less wastage, and nice smooth edges on the strip, so less cuts on your hands!
@spritrocks The one I got was a prototype. It works with thickness of aluminum flashing that I buy at home depot. I can't remember the exact thickness off the top of my head. I would expect that different thicknesses and types of material would come out with slightly different dimensions.
@MegaMalc1 FreeChex IIIs have been available for over 6 months. I have no direct relationship with Charlie, the man who invented and manufactures the FreeChex III. His products are available on Ebay only... as far as I know. He does sell overseas; I have seen positive comments on the reloading forums from people from Australia and Europe.
I have seen the half ton at HF. I am pretty sure it would be fine. If you get one it would be great if you could report back and let us know your impression.
It might be possible, but the arbor press has much greater leverage and has less give. A $49 Harbor Freight arbor press is probably will save a lot of wear and tear on a more expensive reloading press.
I have been to his site, but info on where to buy and costs are no where to be found. How does a person get ahold of him ????? Thanks for the vid, super !!
Unfortunately the person who designed and was producing these decided a few months ago that selling the FreeChex III was more trouble than it was worth... at least for the time being. You might still be able to find a used one occasionally on eBay. Mine was actually one of the very first one's produced. I made thousands of gas checks with the Freechex III and it worked out very well and still is in good shape.

What calibers of bullets will these checks fit? Any and all or are their different stamps for each caliber?

Yes, I think copper in most cases is easier to work with than aluminum.
Is this guy still around and making these tools?
@@jonlennon3348 wouldn't that be nice?
