    love the creativity. the reason some are harder is probably cause when you cast them some may be little bigger in diameter from one casting to another depending on how it fills the mold when sizing. i know this is a old video and im sure others have said what i have said.

      @DimaProk  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, they drop out from the mold pretty identical once you get going and keep the pace the same. This bullet is just bigger around .312 - .313" by design for 7.62 hence the name 7.62mm-130-SPL and combined with hard lead can be quite difficult to size it down to .309, especially with gas check and without the lube. Lee says to use lube during sizing, but since I normally powder coat later, I can't have the lube

    Absolutely the best way to make gas checks. I really like the one he made for me. I use plain base cast bullets and the checks fit perfectly and swage on the bullet nice and tight. I use soda can aluminum for my checks. Dima will work with you to get a perfect fit.

    Awsome Dima! I was a little confused on how the forming punch worked. After looking at the blueprint and seeing your vid I see its a separate piece that sits inside the body then a screw holds it in place. Makes sense cause itll be hard to machine that inside the die body. Great stuff brother! Gotta make a welcome video

    • @DimaProk
      @DimaProk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sure was confusing for me as well. Because I don't have any formal training I had to look long and hard at the plans and just see how it goes. In my first attempt it didn't came out great so I had to redo it. If I had a milling machine things would go a lot easier.

    Cool tools. I dont have a lathe so i use Freechex and Pat Marlins tools. However, i would offer you one tip.......if you anneal your aluminum strips first (quick heat with propane torch) then your tool will cut way easier and will not dull so fast either. Good shootin' to you!

    • @DimaProk
      @DimaProk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip, I will try it. I heard some people put on the very bottom of toaster oven, going to try it both ways.

    Dima, I like your dies. I am going to make something like this for swaging my bullets. All in one job swaged bullet with a base more like a half jacket system. Thank you for sharing this.

  • @FullLeadTaco
    @FullLeadTaco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sometimes I make my own gc too--but I use the patmarlins dies for pb gas checks and the freechex for the regular gas checks. Similar process as yours.

    • @DimaProk
      @DimaProk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lead Taco, thanks for the t-shirts again. Ruger one is really cool! Did you find any benefits of using GCs for plain bullets? I believe they are made from aluminum cans? It seems to me that it would fall off pretty easy.

    • @FullLeadTaco
      @FullLeadTaco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was using a little thicker material, the pop cans are too thin--they swage on and seem to stay on quite well. I was putting them on the bullets that I wanted to push harder.

    • @FullLeadTaco
      @FullLeadTaco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the main benefit for doing plain base gas checks is that you can buy a plain base mold and shoot the bullets with or without gas checks. When I shoot gas check bullets without the gas checks, it seems like I don't get as good of accuracy as the plain base bullets without gas checks.

    Do you think your tool would work in a Redding Ultramag? I think of the lateral struts that could hinder the supply of material.
    Would you send me the drawings, here in Germany nothing comparable is available?
    Best regards Michel

    • @DimaProk
      @DimaProk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah your press might be a problem. I am using cheap Lee press leeprecision.com/reloader-press.html it has now lots of play in ram but works just fine for gas checks, in fact I screw in die to get maximum leverage and it makes it easier.

    How thick is this aluminum foil in millimeters?

    • @DimaProk
      @DimaProk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      0.13 inches = 0,33mm. 0.12" = 0.3mm this might work or might be a little small especially the older lyman molds prefer thicker gas checks. 0.14 (0.355mm) or even 0.15 (0.38mm).

      No problem :) If you have friend machinist who can make it great! If you have lathe you can make it too, the difficult part is making the slot. I had to purchase milling machine for that but it can be done on a lathe with some creative thinking as I did my first.
